If O'Cockface goes to Freo and Fyfe comes back fit, will Brodie get a game?

Hawthorn going to have zero salary.
They will be able to offer Noah a huge contract.
You know they will be talking to him now running him through this scenario.

Don't know what the rules are about degree you can front load someone.
In NBA there is only certain steps up or down in salary you can take.

Imagine 1.5 mil - 1 mil - 500k - 250k = 4 years 800k / year

Would probably need to just match Hawks offer and I think he’d stay. they look like they’ll have a really down year and if we aren’t offering noah atleast 750k+ then i’ll be wondering why we were so adamant on dumping bowes

Fyfe will play half forward, he doesn’t want to tho.

Brodie should be their main clearance man to release serong brayshaw

Bowes shouldn’t have been on $800k per year in the first place. Monumental stuff up.
Worst trade of all time. They get a young gun AND receive pick 7 for the privilege of doing so.
Not to mention two previous players won their respective B&F this year. And Don’t forget about Brodie. And Andrew Brayshaw.

A blind monkey throwing darts could manage the team better.

The Bowes thing is just frustrating in all facets.

1. That he didn’t live up to his pay/potential
2. That we signed him for so long when he is a local kid…
3. That we handled his exit so poorly
4. that pick 7 was used, or that nothing good came our way back in the trade. At least a second rounder. Hoodwinked!

Seems like we just let Bowes pick where he wanted to go and made it happen, regardless of the cost.

But Peter Wright winning the B&F should never have happened. I know several Essendon supporters and they can’t fathom it. He kicked a lot of goals, but if he is the best player in the team then that is crazy.

Brodie, for all his hype, didn’t make top 10. If he wasn’t attached to the GCS in a lopsided “trade bargain” I doubt he would get half the news coverage he got. Played well, as we all knew he could, and was helped by an improving Freo. But he would have made little difference to us this year.

My take on all of this is we have improved the last 2 years despite dropping those players 🤷‍♂️

I think those saying ‘worst contract in the history’ need to consider the situation in 2018/2019.

  • we were desperate for people to stay
  • we had no one on the list worth paying (hombsch, miles, hanley, Joyce, schoenfeld, heron, ghs, Cory Ellis, Aaron young etc.. were all on the main list plus a bunch of talented rookies)
  • paying our promising 4th year players a decent contract (macpherson, Brodie, fiorini, bowes) 300-500k / year doesn’t seem completely unreasonable given the above.
  • we didn’t know about assistance packages etc..
  • covid happened and we had to reduce the payments by 10%. Seems like a handful of players who were signed up beyond 2020/2021 agreed to back end their contract to help out the club.

Club has been very clear we are not over the cap and having to shed these contracts to meet regulations. We are doing so with the intention of opening salary space that we can then use in 2024 and onwards.

Could we do some pick swaps with north to try get tsatas?

1. Ashcroft
2. Cadman
3. Wardlaw
4. North trades for gc pick (6) and swap of gc first and north second round 2023. Maybe with a swap of future 3rds or something favourable for us as well.

Gets us tsatas. Our first likely to be absorbed next year anyway if Walter as highly regarded as advertised

The only downside to that is that maybe (just maybe) we need our first to trade for a player. If they are really good, we might need our first and a future first as well.

I’d rather just take who is at 5 that we want, or split 5 and take two later picks if we really don’t care (or want Hollands number 2).

Time will tell I guess. We need to acknowledge the club has made some very poor decisions in our short history in difficult times. That is solely on the club. In hindsight to me Weller trade to Freo hurts the most and is where it started. Weather we like it or not we have built a reputation as a soft touch to deal with and are the laughing stock of the completion. In this current trade period that has not changed, if anything has worsened by giving up pick 7 for a salary dump is ridiculous. As a supporter that stings and reeks of incompetence. I just hope the talk of positioning ourselves to have salary cap to improve our list in the coming years is not more SPIN or mismanagement. Time will tell I guess. GO THE SUNS.

I'm happy with chol, reckon he will be a star in another year or 2
I prefer Chol too. He’s a very exciting player. Good in the air and at ground level. Improved his body work throughout the year. Can do a good job in the ruck as he is very different in style to Witts.

Peter Wright is more of a traditional forward/ruck. Chol and King are the more speedy forwards that are good below the knees or in the run.

Both have pros and cons. But I’m happy with our forward line (besides Ranks leaving).

Just listening to trade radio.
Bowes manager was talking to him late in the season whilst he was battling it out in the VFL
Saying we need to sort out your future..
Bowes “leave me alone I just want to play footy and win the grand final in the VFL”
Confirmed his parents and grandparents were deep inside the Suns walls hosting players and other commitments

Could they be tanking to ensure they can take a player to the PSD

So sad.
And yet you still talk about Cameron being a pushover... brutal, but, dems da brakes. Moving on.

Picture this, this year is 2023...
  • On the eve of the season beginning it's announced that best friends Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell have both re-signed with us.
  • We start the year well and pull off some surprising upsets in the first half of the season led but our inspirational skipper Touk Miller and Noah Anderson. Ben King has also fit back into the team seamlessly and our forward line looks like it could challenge any team.
  • It's now mid-season and the media begins to speculate about players we could be eyeing off. Touk is also in the discussion as one of the hot favourites for the Brownlow.
  • Jed Walter is absolutely killing it at the national championships and is a lock for a top 5 selection in the draft. Jake Rogers and Ethan Read are also playing well and being talked about as potential first round picks.
  • We're now three quarters of the way through the season and we're inside the top 8 but our place in the finals isn't assured yet.
  • It's going to take a few more solid wins but Touk says he's confident we can do it. As luck would have it, we find ourselves in a situation where a win over Brisbane in the QClash will secure us a finals position...
  • We secure a finals position with the required amount of wins being achieved and now we're going into our round 23 clash with an eye on a home finals.
  • Mission accomplished. We're secure the win and the percentage boost needed to finish 6th and the city is a buzz about what our team is capable of achieving this year after a few wins over several top 4 opponents. We've also well and truly broken our all time club membership record and are nearing 30k members.
  • The lead up to our first ever final is massive. The tickets sell out within hours of their release. Richmond is coming to town.
  • The media begins to hype up the Tigers chances of winning another premiership after securing the likes of Taranto and Hopper over the off season but come game day we're all over them. We hand Richmond and almighty 40 point spanking in front of a raucous home crowd.
  • Onto the next week and we face the daunting task of our first ever away final at the MCG and our opponents happen to be the biggest club in the land - Collingwood. We know it's going to be a hard slog in a wet Saturday night in Melbourne but we also know Brisbane are waiting for us the following week and discussions have already begun about the potential first ever QClash preliminary final at the Gabba.
  • It's a back and forth game with the Pies and we're into the last 5 minutes with less than a kick the margin between the two...
  • I'll stop here and let you decide how the rest of the finals series plays out.
  • Now we're into the off season. We've been linked to a huge name through free agency/trade and we're eyeing off trading our first round pick to secure him.
  • Jed Walter is a slam drunk top 3 prospect and both Jakes Rogers/Ethan Read are also top 30 talents. Lucky we secure all those points last year so we can bring in all of these four talented players in the off season.
  • We're now being talked about as a genuine top 4 team going into the 2024 season...
This is how I believe the club envisions the next 12 months to play out. Is it realistic? Perhaps. Time will tell but I can tell you this much, it's going to be one hell of a ride and I'm excited!

Think we have a case for dunkley if the threat of psd is real. We give him a year and if he still really want the lions then we can trade him. Bulldogs get something, we get a pick back if we lose him and lions just have to wait a year and dunkley doesn't have to go to North.

I wonder if the Sharp trade will be one of the side pieces in todays AFL deadline day extravaganza crap they have tried to push, or if it has died down with Freo looking to have a busy day ahead with other trades.

Not been much talk in the last couple of days.
