Not a fan of us potentially losing some of the draft capital we have gained in next years draft just to match bids this year

He seriously wouldn’t allow our first next year to tumble just to match a bid on Graham would he !!!!!!
Currently hold the below for 2024

It would obviously depend on how many points are required, but I don't think the two first's are under threat.

Wonder if he's acting worried in the knowledge North aren't bidding on Walter after that deal in their favour?

I think we have enough to cover Walter, Read and Rogers. Will need to bring something in for Graham.

If needed we can do trades on draft night. Teams are after our 2nd round picks and these should give us overs.

There must be something to that trade with North right? Why trade 18 for next year's 20 (and potentially need to trade it back in again at a loss) unless they aren't bidding on Walter? That saves nearly 400 points.

There would have been better options even if they do bid at 4.

Surely?

Yes that's true, but those deals need to be done early as the Walter bid (even at 4) wipes out the first 3 picks.

FYI - if we keep our current picks we gain nearly 300 points during the bids as late picks get dragged lower.

Yes. One such trade could be even done before draft. We probably still have too many picks going into draft.

This morning I put on favourite Suns bucket hat and had a big whinge about not getting a Big Fish.

Then I looked in the mirror and saw that I had a Suns hat on....but it kept flipping b/w Suns, Giants, Saints, Kangas, Hawks, and Bulldogs hats. You know, the smaller teams. The bottom 5 for attendances plus the Saints at 7th from the bottom. The ones that don't play in front of big crowds at big grounds and get to play in 3/5 of f'all of the blockbuster games.

And then it all made sense. Big Fish are very very picky and you don't catch them with worms.

Not sure how I feel after yesterday. Looks like we go into 2024 with basically the same best 22 that we ended 23 on. Can't see Rogers, Reid or Graham playing too many games in 2024 and Jed Walter will be immediately be expected to solve the forward problems. Still deficient in that forward pocket spot unless Rosas shows massive improvement. Ageing Casboult will be there to support Walter in the early stages and we still lack a really good defensive / rebound player. Lemmens, McPherson and unfortunately Swallow m should struggle to get a game and hopefully Uwland, Jeffery will step up. I live in hope that Will Graham will prove the surprise package and we get Shai Bolton and Martin next year. 2024 looks to be a year for slight improvement.

Rogers can absolutely play as a small forward. That desire to hunt and tackle and work hard is exactly what Dimma likes in small forwards. He will get games

So you would keep Hollands? Bloody Ralph now talks about Suns doing a right thing due to Hollands personal issues.

I actually feel we would keep Chol if Hawks did not come up with a reasonable trade.

Nuh i don't rate Hollands. However, why not get a bit more for him, clubs pay overs for top 10 picks only a few years in the system.

Sure, I would like to get more too. How do you achieve to get a bit more? If the club is not happy to keep him if acceptable offer does not come up and the other club knows that what are your options?

Now all these commentators are talking about Suns doing a right thing as Hollands is needed in Melbourne for family reasons.

If he needed to go for family reasons why did his manager say he's not looking around, he'd be at the suns or the blues next year?

I think you shop him to all Melbourne clubs, tell him you're happy to keep him if the club isn't given a second rounder. The 'needed home' is a common excuse, if they need to get home that desperately then they should be happy to go to a number of different clubs. It's just playing the game, bluffing your way through it to get the best return for the club.

* off Cameron.

There was nothing to lose keeping Elijah for another year and seeing if he pulled his finger out and turned it around. He’s not even on much salary.

We gained, literally nothing with this trade.

Useless. Bloke has not earned a single pay check we’ve ever given him as a list manager
Head over to the main trade board if you want to get really angry, they are having a good laugh at us over the Hollands deal.

I know I shouldn’t care but it’s exhausting

Who cares :)

We are bringing in 3 1st round talents and 1 2nd round. On top of that we got best draft hand next year and should have a serious cap space to target A grader.

Now we just need to start winning more under Dimma. Can he do it with current list? Let's hope so.

Here we go.

“Suns had phenomenal trade period”.

According to Twomey on GETTABLE.
Objectively speaking, you could argue this is true. We didn't lose any best 22 players and used excess depth players to secure the points we need to draft in our high end academy talent as well as putting ourselves in a good position to match high end academy bids next year. I get that people feel like we're walking away from the trade period empty handed but the truth of the matter is that we were in a very unique position of having three first round talents coming through our academy at the same time which essentially forced our hand into accumulating points this off season. It's not going to feel like an empty handed off season on draft night when we bring in pick 2, pick 6, pick 12 and pick 25(?).

Importantly, we didn't lose any best 22 players. In years gone by we would have definitely lost a player like Flanders this off season but we appear to have stopped the rot of losing best 22 players and we're really only losing guys who aren't getting opportunities at the AFL level. Were guys like Burgess, Hollands and Chol actually going to play much AFL footy next year? I don't think so but I do think we could see a decent amount of AFL footy for guys like Rogers and Walter next year. Read will likely take longer but he's possibly the most exciting prospect of them all.

Most analysts are now saying we're going to play finals next year because of our list talent/age/experience demographic and the guidance of a proven commodity in Dimma. These seemingly empty handed off seasons are going to feel like a distant memory if we have the kind of season people are predicting for us next year. We're almost there Suns fans, just a little more patience and footy will be fun.

So much positivity, love it.
