9 wins this year was ok but I think if powell and weller didnt get injured we make finals so going to the draft and the 2nd to 4th year players should improve big year coming

Basically played the whole year without any half backs or wingers.

Pretty knowledgeable admin Lore confirmed in another thread that senior spots + cat A spots equal to how many picks teams can start draft night with (not regarding picks trades after draft starts).

In Suns case, at the moment, we got 34 senior list + 5 Cat A + 2 Cat B players. So senior + Cat A is 39. We got 8 picks (last 71) with point values.

If our list was reduced to standard size (42, not counting Cat B) we would have only 3 picks allowed to bring into draft (42 - 39). This tells me that we still have the same extended list (38 + 8 + 2) allowing us to bring 7 picks to draft.

Cameron talked about coming into draft with 6 senior list spots. At the moment we got 4 (38 - 34). To come up with 6 we will most probably de-list Casboult and Day and bring them back as Cat A in rookie draft.

Then there is Sharp. Who knows what will happen with him. He could end up on rookie list or de-listed altogether and leave. That would add another senior list spot (total 7).

De-listing Casboult and Day will allow us to bring 9 picks to draft (10 if Sharp is de-listed too) including 74 (+ 84) that have no points value but should move up significantly as bids progress.

Another interesting question is where Ace will end up. He should be moved to senior list but the club is possibly asking for exemption.

Did I get this right? :) Who knows. No journalist asked these questions.

This ìs a big moment for the AFL , they just rejected Adelaide request for James Borlase to remain a rookie for an extra year so if they make an exemption for Oea that is blatant favouritism, he needs to be elevated to the senior list or delisted. The Suns could always get a talented kid like Nick Williams as a Rookie B and there are delisted players like Bianco , Gould and Peris that could be rookie As

Ace got extended.

...and the question is why?
Ask the club but I suspect because he showed enough progress and passed Dimma's assessment. He's on cheap contract. I am pretty sure because he is from PNG the club may get exemption to keep him as Cat B.

I'd guess this has a lot to do with him being from PNG and the story that the AFL would like to keep alive. They probably have visions of Ace becoming an AFL premiership player for us one day and the positive impact that could have for footy in PNG. They'll probably just continue to make list exemptions for him to keep the possibility alive.

I think Ace has got better at football each year he has been at the club.
If he is better again next year, at worst he is a very handy replacement small forward.

Useful small forwards are hard to find. A bit like key defenders, keep a player a year too long just in case they improve enough to be AFL quality. 'Cause if they get to AFL quality, you definitely want to keep them (and pay them).

PS.....

.................................Year of the Crab, here we come!!!

I'm sure this is the hope but who knows what young kid coming through in the next year or so misses out on a Rookie spot because of perception and impact in PNG.

You can't delist our best 2 players in the VFL premiership team, can you?

Why not?

Just because you're a good VFL player doesn't mean you've got what it takes to play AFL.

Back in the day, my cousin played in the 2s for a (then) VFL team back in the 80s...Came 2nd in the B&F, which might sound good, but it really meant he played every game in the 2s. The really good players were in and out of the 1sts, and therefore didn't get enough games in the 2s to rack up the points to score well in the B&F.

He never played in the firsts, tried to get a transfer only to have the club he wanted to go to say 'thanks but no thanks', and ended up playing most of his career for Southport where he was apparently a regular in the bests (he was also a bit of a prick, so I didn't follow his career that closely)

I was talking about the granny

Would we care if we moved fiorini on? Because he is the best vfl player in the country, unfortunately at the next level he doesn't quite have what it takes. It's just that little bit of speed that makes the difference for him and others its something else that stops them taking the next step. It's unfortunate but sometimes players can dominate the level down and not cut it in the afl. Hollands may prove everyone wrong if he gets it together because he does have that footy brain that you can't teach but at the moment he looks like he may be one of those who just dominates the lower grade.
