Yes,
But young players also need exposure in key roles to develop.

Wouldn't mind Bodhi Uwland or Connor Buderick getting some midfield time in the VFL but they're stuck behind Blakely and Tsitas etc..
You can still find time for them. Uwland played in midfield before injury, I am pretty sure. Budarick also lined up there occasionally. Tsitas is our forward now😀

I don’t think we do want them in the midfield often, unless that is where we see them long term?

Don’t we want to develop them to replace our small defenders (like MacPherson or Atkins). We have so many mids and mid forwards at the moment, and maybe getting another in Rogers. Small defenders and rebounding half backs are a premium on our list right now.

I’m not sure that playing as a back pocket in a team with 2 losses and a percentage of 175% really helps them develop as an overall player.

Yes, I think that small, running defender will probably be both of their best positions in the AFL, especially in the short term. But I don’t think they should be pidgenholed there. And whilst playing in the VFL, I definitely think they should have opportunity to develop their games in a range of roles.

We saw Maynard spend time in the middle for the pies earlier this year, why couldn’t that be Uwland in 5-6 years.

We’ve seen Laird go from a gun back pocket into a gun mid. Why couldn’t that be Budders?

Overall, I just want the VFL to provide the best environment to develop all our young players. Bulk midfield minutes for multiple guys who aren’t developing and will never be in our AFL team.. just recognising that this has pitfalls.

Good to see others have a strong stance on overpaying for Dusty.

Pendles is 35 playing full time mid btw. We only need Dusty to roam at half forward, take the best medium defender and let Humphrey run loose. Good investment.

The ambition to land Dimma, Dusty & Buddy in this small window of opportunity will lift the playing group and make em believe, we will make finals and go beyond.

We are not far off finals, teams jump into the 8 every year.

I reckon you overpay for Dusty. You probably overpay for any of a few puzzle pieces that are hard to find – should have for Rankine in hindsight too.

It might backfire, you might get decent output for one year, you might get three years but he's perhaps the biggest match-winner of his generation. We shouldn't die wondering with this current group of players. Signing Hardwick probably gives a little breathing room, but if things don't happen quickly under him, the likes of King, Lukosius, Anderson will be getting twitchy and will/should want to make the most of their careers. The massive offers from elsewhere will have already started to roll in.

Split pick 4, give a late first rounder and Hollands and roll the dice.
Would 4,2024r2 for 6,13 with GWS be a good trade.
I think so, you can trade 6 for points with Melbourne, Swans, Melbourne
and trade 13,40 for 27, dusty.

Be a smart move by him to get out of a rebuilding team as he's a sitting duck being 30 with 1 year left on his deal and his dodgey hamstrings. Not really an area of need for us now. Would still take him if the price was very reasonable for us.

He can piss off, didn’t want to stick around for the hard times and now that we have a list to contend with he wants in. Yeah I don’t think so.

He was actual one of the few that was open and honest with the club, told us well in advance. So of all those that left he ranks highest. Not worth much now in trade but worth having a chat to

If Flanders goes, Prestia would be an interesting stopgap option in the middle. Experienced, knows Dimma, knows the club. And I don’t have a problem with him compared to most of the other blokes who fled around that time.

But Touk, Rowell, Flanders, Prestia, Rogers, with Lombard to come is quite a vertically challenged group of mids.

Be really nice if Davies can get better, has the frame to crash and bash. Anderson is quite tall too, but it's definitely something to be wary about.

There's been some rumours about treloar also who I'd take before prestia.
Both good BUT both over 30yo and both injury prone which may get worse as they age..Treloar has missed 15 games the last 3 seasons and Prestia 20.....which is nearly a whole season.....they'd need to be real cheap.....I think we can do better

If these guys are interested we should recognise that the general consensus around us may be changing and get on the front foot.

Make a few phone calls to some actual game changers.

Hello often injured Ben Mckay. Would you be interested in coming up to warm and sunny Queensland where you may actually get on the park.

Teloar has had a good year this year but agree would want to be cheap in terms of trade and salary. Rather just keep Flanders.

Came here to ask if you think Alex Davies will be getting another contract. I know he’s academy and probably pretty attached to the Suns, but was wondering if he or Hollands could end up on the trade table. Dogs desperately need young mids, and if Treloar wanted to go to Queensland to b e with his wife and child, nobody would begrudge him. I know you need all the draft capital you can get your hands on, and if a player wants in and a player wants out, that kind of trade could work.

I’m sure Davies will be offered another contract.
