Despite trying to dissect the Swans zone with some tough kicks, thought Newman was good again

Saad seems to have the blend between defending and attacking absolutely spot on for most of the year

Marchbank was horrible early, but with each contest, just got better and showed why the club rates him highly, he will stay in based on that game

So, don't think we need to be as tall against the Demons as a defensive 7, 1 of Kemp or Gov could go forward

I'd agree with most of that but if we need to look at playing Kemp or Gov forward our side is seriously unbalanced.

It’s an interesting one. I’ve seen several praising him and saying Weitering was beaten… but I mostly saw it the other way around. Marchbank had a few good courageous moments, but is often beaten out of position and not great with the ball. He got cleanly out marked by a smaller man at least once last night. I feel he’s a real vulnerability, whereas I see Weitering as a wall that teams have to go around to score. He usually beats his man and helps everyone else out.

Maybe I’m taking my bias in and seeing only things that confirm my view. Shrug.

Obviously I want any and all of our guys to be great, but I don’t see it with Marchy and I don’t quite trust him. Weitering I absolutely trust.
I thought Weiters and Marchbank were both fantastic. Kemp had some great moments too, but leaked 2 easy goals to Logan M and had that shocking moment on the goal line.

Apart from the first few minutes of the game, I've come away thinking that Sydney were a shade better than us, totally kicked them selves out of it.
Need a big improvement next week, poor old Harry won't be there. But considering his recent form, that might be doing us a favour.
Tough night for Harry for sure but thought he started well, had a hand in first 2 goals, showed great pace and effort when he hit the post with a defender bearing down on him in the goal square.

Need an extra tall forward to support Charlie next week, is JSos fit ??

I don’t believe this is correct

Yep. 2 direct goal assists for H, along with 7 score involvements and 3 super important contested grabs. Still a decent game.

His two handballs set up our first two goals and a few big clutch grabs......He will be missed.
Need to beat Dees and get him back for a pre lim.

Can't believe anybody would think otherwise.
Yeah mate I'm struggling with the fact that some don't think Harry is in our best 22.

We're going to need that 3rd marking forward so Kemp or Gov forward could be on.

Posters on here trying to snatch misery out of the jaws of a happy occasion - pointing fingers here there everywhere at what shouldacouldamustbeenbetta

I genuinely feel sorry for you

NM I'm off for a surf then a round of golf.

Go Blues.

Awesome result. Wholehearted team performance and showed plenty of maturity to withstand the challenge of the Swans.

The club has been saying all along that JSOS would be right after this first week, so hopefully cometh the hour, cometh the man. If we don't go this way the Gov will have to join Charlie so we at least have two tallish targets down forward. We will badly miss Jacky Martin (what a clutch player) next week unless we can get a Supreme Court injunction for a stay of proceedings. Motlop must be in the side and Paddy Dow must return as well. Blacres didn't look right at the end but maybe the painkillers had worn off by then. Vossy didn't seem concerned. He'll be such loss if he misses.

Special commendation to Jack Martin, Cotters, Blacres, Walshy, Cez and Saady. Bloody well done to everybody else.

The game is there to be won next week. It should not be a high scoring affair so the game will always be in reach. Bring it on.

McKay gets those 2 misses next time. He would be more disappointed than any supporter with those misses.

He had 11 touches & had important linking marks by the time he went off.

At his worst he stops Curnow being double teamed, a key marking option down the ground, provides front and centre opportunities for own smalls & is very good at death if you want a steadying mark.

At his best he is a star.

Some on here are clueless at times. He is a massive out next week. And l hope he is feeling ok this morning

Great post - I can't applaud it enough.

Only thing I would add was Harry putting his body on the line to halve a contest/bring the ball to ground, at a time when Sydney were intercepting everything. An effort that put him personally out of this final and the next. I don't see how this guy could have done anything more for the club in his career.

FWIW - I posted this about Cottrell after R11 Swans game.

“I was at the game and Cottrell’s work rate was incredible.
Gawd he covered some territory.
He’d be harassing an oppo player on our half FWD flank trying to stop their rebound, follow up with another tackle 30m down the field and then bob up to take a defensive mark 100m away in the back pocked 20 seconds later.
He was doing work like that all night.
Had to be there to appreciate his effort and contribution.’

Seriously underrated player and he is getting better and better the more games he plays.

I want to take him out of our bottom six now, does a job every week and the boy can play.

Fortunately for us with Harry.

The game turned the moment he missed right in front, we can't afford to carry him. Bring in JSOS.
While not defending those two brain dead’s misses, the system seemed to go to shit without him. He’ll get picked whenever fit.

Agree 💯, although I wonder whether someone misses out, rather than goes forward. I guess we need another target down there now and we can’t send TDK given Gawn.
