Guys, I keep deleting posts referencing this, but can we move away from suggesting or making juvenile jokes about the bloodlines of players.

This is a public forum and parents of players do read here.

Ned Maginness, Dylan Moore, ( i believe) Calsher Dear and Finn Maginness at the Hawks training just before Christmas.

Kudos to Dylan Moore for going with a visor , either was heading straight to a table tennis comp or is that full of confidence he will get AA this season

Or perhaps it was weekly poker night

Dear and Maginness very good today in Sandringham practise match against Oakleigh. Dear kicked 3 and took some nice marks and Maginness has certainly grown taller but still very light, very clean hands and skills.

Ed says Calsher is now 194cm.

Hopefully he does really well this year enough to get drafted would be good to get two talls in Calsher Dear and Will McCabe.

Will be interesting if Dear,McCabe and Maginness all do really really well and how we would get them all.

Take one live pick and stockpile for the rest.

Where abouts are Dear and Maginess rated currently?
Mid to late draft I'd say, but for now the argument is pointless. Last year our top rated guy going into the season was Jack O'Sullivan, Mackenzie, Weddle, Hustwaite, and BMac all shot onto the scene. I'd say by June we'll have a good idea if they're draftable or not, but even then you never know. I'd like to see them get a VicM call up at some point though, that should show us how they run against top level players at least.

If all 3 of these boys prove list-worthy it will make this year's list changes very interesting. I am certain we will want to retain our first rounder, then pick up these 3 if good enough. So that makes 4 off the list at a minimum. The current list has a lot to play for over the course of the year.

I knew I was misremembering one of them, there you go. Either way, all you can hope for going in is a strong showing early and hopefully a metro call up for the boys.

But, having said that, before 2022, O'Sullivan was rated anywhere from 10-20.

If Dear and Maginess show promise, but not enough for the national draft i hope they end up rookied an / or at Boxhill.

I was hoping young lawrence made his way to Boxhill, it would of been good to see if his game could develop further.

Who will McCabe be playing for this year ?

If they aren’t good enough to play in the league team, usually the players in the SA U18’s state squad play at U18’s SANFL level until the national champs, then they can play up at whatever level above after. Selectors and recruiters want to see them playing against their own age up until the champs.

Box Hill seem to run an excellent program. I hope players that miss out on being drafted or rookied look at the Box Hill success stories and decide to join up.

Lawrence impressed me in the Colgate young guns game last year as he was very mobile and could take a mark(kicked 3 also) and I know at least one of our scouts thought we should draft him too, but obviously that was not the consensus.

I have all of my fingers and toes crossed that Calsher lights it up at Sandy, because we need his type and he’ll need to have a good year for us to draft him.

Finn’s a classic example.

At the start of 2019 he wasn’t in the AFL Academy and his bottom age year had been underwhelming.

Scouts had him as a rookie pick at best before the season started.

He worked his bum off at the start of 2019 to get super fit and focused on his deficiencies, made the Vic M side, played pretty well at that level and thus we took him as a F/S.
