I don't see any analogy between Kennett and the complaints the Rioli's made , and the alleged actions by Clarkson etc that have caused such a bombshell.
But i don't disagree that the investigation could have been a hand grenade tossed by Kennett.

After Kennett made his offensive comments to Rioli's wife in 2018, he was told in no uncertain terms that the his comments were indicative of the clubs attitude towards indigenous players and that something should be done about it.

He was President and chose to do nothing about the matter UNTIL 4 years later when Rioli went public and forced his hand.

It really wasn't that offensive though, it was typical boomer humour. Stuff I've heard from a bunch of people making jokes about those jeans that come with pre-installed holes in them. It's insane, you spend $300 on jeans and they're full of holes, is there any wonder an ultimate boomer like Jeff Kennett would make the same remark about them?

To me it's clearly not racist from Jeff, just him treating her as he'd treat anyone else wearing those sorts of jeans.

Yeah not racist obviously but very cringe and lame and makes it less funnier because everyone already hates him. I think we should bring the retirement age forward to about 45 so the off-kilter boomers can stop making fools of themselves when they're around other people.

It's clearly not the case, neither are the cartoon villain you want to pretend them to be. Kennett wasn't a great premier, but he's not the Klansman some would like him to be either.

I know how they need to go when you lawyer up because you won't, for whatever reason deny an allegation printed about you in a national newspaper with your full prior knowledge.

How difficult do you reckon it would have been to get an injunction on going to print, with almost a weeks notice, Would have been if the allegations were fabricated?

Not quite that simple unfortunately. The player's partner was the one who brought up them advising him to get an abortion. The most likely situation seems to be that the player wanted an abortion, but told his partner that Clarkson and Fagan had advised him to do it so that he'd have a smokescreen. Unfortunate but personally having been in the situation as a 19 year old of having a partner who had an abortion, it's a pretty fraught situation so it wouldn't be surprising if it wasn't black and white.

He didn't deny it prior going to print, which is what I said. And he doesn't deny any specific claim from the article.
