That's a fine hypothetical, until you realise that just last season Gary Rohan won the medal after being unable to get near the ball while being on the winning side of a flogging.I think with deciding a Leon Davis Medal a player's potential versus their output on the day has to be taken into consideration.
As a hypothetical case, just say in 2018 Richmond as expected defeated Collingwood in the Preliminary Final but saved their shocker for the Grand Final the next week against the West Coast Eagles. And the Eagles were not sympathetic, repeating a hiding they gave to the Tigers in Perth in May and winning a very one-sided Grand Final by 10 goals.
Any of the star Tigers in this Richmond team who underperformed on the day such as Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin, Jack Riewoldt, Dion Prestia, Bachar Houli, Shane Edwards or Alex Rance would surely be better candidates for the Leon Davis Medal than an overwhelmed Tigers rookie who had limited game time and just one handpass. Or an obscure Eagles player who was on and off the field all day, not really needed and had only a handful of few and far between possessions.
So yeah nah
