I'd like us to give guys who haven't played a block of 3 games before cutting them, at least you would know...and for the love of god, stop signing our borderline top 30 players like Murphy to 2 year contracts before round 5. We seem so keen to lock these guys in early when they'd surely not be on any other clubs shopping list.

Sloane will get another contract, I just hope if we do it is just 1 year

I am fine with delisting Sloane, Crouch, McAsey, Seed, Moose and Borlase.

I would move two of Newchurch, Murphy and Hately to the rookie list and delist one. We need to upgrade Murray to the main list.

That gives us 4 (or 3 if we don't trade our future first) main list spots, no (or one) rookie spots and 2 cat b spots.

If we need another list spot, Nank would be next in line to delist. IMO, bringing in any 70+ draftee over Nank would be a fail.
I'm pretty sure there are a few in front of Nankervis to delist before his name comes up.
I'm hoping he debuts this year and gets a few games to show what he's got

He's behind Jones, Schoenberg, Butts, Worrell, McAdam, Tex, Doedee and Taylor for mine. Which means he'd be the next one up of the players with contracts ending in 2023.

I would keep him rather than get the extra list spot.

The amount of "trade Doedee" posts certainly went up this year.
This is what happens when the club was stupidly playing him injured as Worrell played sanfl...

Just can’t see the value in letting Doedee go as a free agent, he’s not going to attract a big contract to get us decent compo.

Hately for depth is one you can definitely wait on as no one else will pick him up
If we are targeting redman too then we would get No compo, it’d simply become a straight swap

Unless you trade for Redman or trade Doedee, but that seems like it could get messy, and defeats the purpose of bringing in a FA in the first place

Really, if we’re targeting a Redman or HH, you need to know all your FAs are staying

& no win.

Make no sense at all.

I
Doedee leaving might not be our choice though.

If he goes, I'd rather Himmelberg or Redman than pick 30.
Exactly

you don’t not bring in a player just because you don’t want to lose FA compo. Itd be annoying but it doesn’t stop you. And maybe redman would be seen as the replacement, or an upgrade. It really becomes a trade minus negotiation

Considering Doedee is a third or (more realistically) fourth tall, he's quite replaceable if he decides to go, at least on field. That said, it's certainly is a bit of a dagger to the idea we're starting to build a culture that footballers want to be a part of if he does.

the culture thing is overblown. We want players that demand success, if Dood leaves, it's not a good sign.

I wonder if Sloane and Tex are going to be doing there next contract extension through the media like Tex did last year ?
It's not a good look if they do.

we should have made Tex wait till off-season as a matter of principle. He deserved the extension, but going public is a terrible look for a leader. Hopefully both him and Sloane have been told to zip it. That Sloane has spoken openly about remaining captain isn't a great sign though. The culture of senior player entitlement continues unabated.

Is Sloane retiring?
He and his wife have a new baby, he definitely wont be looking at retiring. Its why he wants the captaincy in 2023, not only locks him in the side, it will also add leverage in him negotiating a new contract.

In reality I felt the AFC should have paid him out and reached an agreement in 2022, that he would retire due to his ACL.

I've never really understood people who make stuff up to be upset about.

We should be looking at bringing in a FA in 2023.

Would that be one of the weaker lists of FA to start a season?
