Souup roos_fanatic08 Sphynx hoffseason gains lads how’s curtin tracking compared to Weitering in his u18 year

I interviewed Weitering for an AFL club in his top age year.

He was different. Quiet, assured type.

More similar to O’Sullivan than Curtin in terms of playing styles.

Probably similar hypes, but different in a way.

Weitering is a good player, but he as seen as a perennial AA FB/CHB, the game started to transition to intercept defenders right around the time he came into the league.

He suited the 00’s/10’s rather than the 2020’s.

I think you’d find he’d go to a similar position as O’Sullivan in a more recent draft.

Been said on here a couple of times, and it won't happen.

But we should be eligible for the highest priority pick PP1, pre-listing Sanders and compensation for McKay.

Then turn off the phones, not do anyone any favours. The haters won't come because they've already been here for decades.

P1 Reid (best player)
P2 Curtin (KPP need)
P3 Watson (small FWD need) - this pick won't exist
P17 ?? (any rucks fall here?)
Pre-List Sanders (continued mid depth)
PSD1 Mature Age
Trade for Key Defender

Mitchell Edwards and Will Green are the two highly rated rucks and around that mark.

Suspect our hand in this range is going to look different on draft night, particularly if we have to match bids for Sanders.

With our 2 x third rounders (38 & 54) and the 20% discount, we would currently need Pick 30 in addition to those to match a bid for Sanders at Pick 7. (30, 38 & 54).

I think if that's what the access to him looks like, we will have to move the Port pick to something else, maybe into 2024. I doubt we can get above the Sanders bid with a 3rd pick.

This is excluding side potential side deals for the likes of Melican, Stephens, Fisher etc.

They closed the loophole regarding place holder picks, you can't trade a pick you have already traded back in on draft night.

I suspect we are anticipating some additional picks (either PP's like last year) or we may have to trade 1 or 2 players with some value, or will dip into 2024's second and third round future picks.

Yes, Brady did mention in the Q&A that our draft hand might be different come draft night.

Colby was delivering another banger of a game, but ended up having a bit of a torrid time with injury. Had his bell rung from an awkward collision midway through the second after which he got up shaking his head and spent a period on the bench. Was noticeably quieter after that incident. Finally had his afternoon ended by a nasty looking ankle injury early in the third which required him to be carried from the field.

Val Keating I hate you.

I've gone from "what's the big deal about Reid" to (watching footage) "yeh he's ok" to (watching more footage) "ok he's better than ok" to (watching more footage and learning of a 2nd/3rd hand link that vouches for his talent) "I'm just going to like die if we don't draft this guy".

Thanks very much for that.

Exactly this.

Avoided clips all year when we were 17th... now, "I will quit football if north don't draft Reid" 🤣

Who's the Isaac Smith of this draft? Darcy Wilson? North desperately need another outlet to Scott. Absolutely must be a taller, faster, cleaner option.

Talls all over the ground equally required...need 5 top 30 picks in all honesty.

Reid / McKercher - Mid
Curtin / O'Sullivan - KPD
Watson - S fwd
Edwards - Ruck
Wilson / Freijah - Wing

Can't help but think I'd rather freedom to draft for needs, over using points for Sanders.

Mini draft auction for Sanders ? Probably a bit too 'complicated' though.

If we are forced to match a bid for Sanders instead of pre-listing him, I wonder if clubs will bid on him higher than 7 out of anger to * us over. If so, I wonder if we will match
At the rate things seem to be moving, we might be told that we have to use our next 3 years' worth of first-round picks on Sanders.

I can’t see us building a relationship with Ryley and the family to ditch him at the altar.

Agreed, watched some footage yesterday and just love his balance, does not go to ground. To me he moves a lot like Toby Greene. He would be awesome for us.

Aside from the obvious disadvantage of using draft capital, this is the other big downside to only being able to match a bid, rather than being able to prelist him. It really limits and puts more risk into anything around potential for splitting picks for later ones etc in case a spiteful early bid comes.

On spiteful early bids, if we aren't a major beneficiary of whatever happens with GC's first round pick, I hope we have a plan in the works to bid on all three of their NGA players!

The beauty of drafting Reid is he can fill multiple roles for us, I'd be prioritising HB over a MID or HF role.
