Croft not nominating F/S would be an interesting development.

I think he'd be pretty high on our list personally.

It would be a smart move from him tbh, the Dogs are the worst side in the league for him to be drafted to from a personal development perspective.
Was also named by Brady in the Q&A as one of the prospects we couldn't get our hands on.

I reckon the WB might secretly be happy with that.

So, it is possible that the extent of our assistance package will be a 20% points discount for an NGA player. But the media will make out like we received 3 of the top 6 picks (if McKay gets band 1). It's understandable why the AFL would prefer this rather than just giving us a priority pick like they gave every other f**king club.

Also I reckon hawks will bid on Sanders at their pick so we will pay top price, they know we have to match. The eagles might even bid on him. So basically the 20% discount will return him to his normal price.

In essence our assistance package could be us having the previlige of trading a lot of draft capital for pick 3 or 4.

Just give us a start of first round priority pick you C**TS!

You know what,,,,when we think about all our list needs, much has been made of a need for a small forward, and obviously if McKay leaves a KPD. But the more I think about all our results over the last few years, what has stood out most to me, is our inability to pin point a kick going inside our own 50, and then the ball is turned over and we're scored against. Perhaps our biggest need is speed, run, and carry and ability to deliver inside 50. McKercher seems to be the standout there. Also I know might get laughed at for saying this, but our performances have improved with Turner in the team,,,,ie/ more forward pressure at ground level. Now I'm not saying Kayne is the answer, BUT players who can apply more forward pressure would help a lot. Think a fit Wardlaw rotating through there, that changes the mindset of rebounding oppositions.
Seconded with the bold.

Turner and Spicer both improved our late season performances and their ability to provide some pressure is why. Its why we looked better earlier in the year and when Turner's pressure dropped off early we stopped looking as good. Not saying he's the answer either but forward pressure is a massive deal for us.

there is nothing in the tea leaves to suggest that's going to happen
Perhaps there's nothing in the tea leaves, but if you look at the situation with impartiality, given the on-field results we produced this year, it would make zero sense for the same AFL commission that deemed us "worthy" of a second and third rounder last season to give us no draft capital at all this year.

And if another team bids on Sanders and we prefer a different player, we simply take our preferred player. This isn't a Luke McDonald situation.

Thats the reality of it all.
We lose McKay for pick 2 and combined with pick 1 - its too much of an advantage apparently, forgetting we've won 4 games in 2 years and 11 games in 4 years.
The AFL will force us to use our next pick on Sanders and say that its too much that he's a protected pick and we would have to match any bid. No way will we be allowed to go to the draft with 4 first rounders.

Its going to be such a stripped back and weak package but considering what we got last year, we will take it. What choice do we have?

Assuming we have pick 1+2, we "should/deserve" to get pick 3 priority. To draft Reid, Curtin, Watson.

Would actually assist our needs. Then we could trade pick 16 to a club for a good McKay replacement + 3rd rounder. And so we can easily bid on Sanders.
Then live trade our future second/third back into the draft (1st round).

But that's a dream. To many louds voices with short memories, speaking against our club. Not enough speaking for it.

As Priority Picks are decided BEFORE the compensation pick for Mckay "if he leaves" the Priority pick would be Pick #2 and the Compensation pick would then be pick #3

Souup What's your thoughts on the key forwards in this draft? I think at minimum we need at least one (ideally two) more developing key forward on the list. It's a shame that Walter isn't in the open draft pool, as a contested, physical and mobile forward he'd form a perfect combination with Larkey.

Caddy & Morris have been talked about plenty, but I do have concerns about them being undersized.

Archer Reid has found some form, but again I have some concerns about his physicality and his ability at ground level. He might be a realistic option around the Port pick depending on how things fall.

Are there any later picks that you like the look of? Luke Lloyd, Archie May, Riley Wetherill, Liam Fawcett, Sam Van Rooyen, Luker Kentfield?

Couple of things to say:

I'm not of the belief that we need to desperately add any key forwards. I've been on record saying I'm fine with us playing 1 tall forward, particularly when guys like Zurhaar, George, Curtis and Ford are medium-types who compete well in the air. Reid (hopefully) can be added to this group, and then we have CCJ, Larkey and Comben who I like as talls.

I'm really not a fan of any of the tall forwards in this draft outside of the obvious Jed Walter, Nate Caddy, Archer Reid and Jordan Croft. O'Sullivan and Curtin can both play forward but I think they're more effective as defenders. I'd rather take someone like Hudson Garoni from Werribee or Wylie Buzza in the rookie draft than take a late flyer on a tall forward prospect in this draft crop.

Do you think there's any chance at all Caddy makes it to the Port pick?
