Cal on trade radio stating WC very likely to stay at pick 1 and take Reid and that it would take a significant offer. Says North probably the only one to be able to make an attractive enough offer.

As much as I love Reid I'm hoping we don't give up both 2 and 3.
Makes so much sense for both clubs.

Another relatively low possession game from Watson, but he produced several moments of magic and had a big impact on the contest. His field kicking was a class above, and he showed his athleticism by flying spectacularly for his marks. As the game wore on, he seemed to become more interested in scrapping with his Tassie opponents than playing football.

Bit of Cyril about him

Who you taking?

Really depends if we get access to Sanders.

If we do then I'd be happy with Curtin & Watson. Mid, Key Defender and Small Forward is good balance for our list.

If not I think McKercher & Curtin will fit the bill.

I suspect we can pretty much rule out access to Sanders, that's gone very quiet.

Said it for months. He's the no.1 pick, they take him, we don't have a decision to make. He's off to W.C.
LDU, Sheeze, Wardlaw, Thomas, Jy, Powell ( Sanders / McKercher )
We take what we think are the next best 2 kids.
No hand wringing, no " what if's "

There is the very real possibility that we could have 4 first round picks this year.

We can probably right our list imbalance in the course of 1 off season with that sort of hand.

What does an attractive offer look like from a WC perspective?

I still can't have Watson going 2 or 3 at that height. Comparing him to Caleb Daniel who went at 46 and was a superstar junior. Will he get to 14?

Nick Watson is 2cms taller than Brent Harvey was when he was drafted.

I have zero concerns about his height.

What I love about him;
  • Explosive speed
  • Elite goal-sense
  • Great skills
  • X-factor aplenty
I really hope he's wearing blue and white next year.

We'd have LDU, Simpkin, Wardlaw, Powell, Phillips, McKercher/ Sanders all pure mids and a number of them at the smaller end of the scale for modern AFL mids.

We already have 5 pure mids adding another makes 6, more if you add Lazz who should be looking at a defense role for a longer career imo. Then we have Sheezel and Thomas who are utility types, can play 100% midfield but also strong in other positions.

Curtin and Watson would be a better balance for the team, but think pick 3 way to much for Watson. Then if we send Comben back Curtin is needed less with Chom, Logue, Corr and McDonald all being the taller option back there.

This is why id very much consider 2 and 3 for picks 1, 15(16) and a pick in the 30s. Reid is a utility type like Sheez and TT. If pure mids are injured we have quality to play in their place and with almost all available its a far better balance. We could be rotating 1 of TT, Sheez and Reid through the middle and still have 2 on the flanks.
We'd still have 3 first rounders to play with being 12*(11PP), 15(the Port pick) and 16 (after our compo pick3 pushes 11, 14 and 15 back a spot)

I know people hate the idea of trading 2 and 3, im not thrilled about it either. But Reid and 15/16 is a far better fit for us with the mids we already have. To think one token win less and we'd taking both Reid and Curtin, but it is what it is and i cant deny the playing group needed that win.

Im also not against using our future 1st to get back into the top 6 for a Caddy, O'Sullivan or maybe Watson.

Think I'd be happy with either of these combinations with 2 & 3.
Mckercher & Curtain
Mckercher & Watson

I'd like to find a way to get Caddy, but if we can't then a combo of Mitch Edwards and Ollie Murphy with Port pick and assistance pick(hopefully 11).

I'm also keen on Jovan Petric as a late pick.

I really like the idea of what Caddy is and want him, while also recognising that he hasn't had the best year.

192cm, mobile, with long arms and can mark like a KPF... I'd like a player like that at CHF

I'm coming around to Nostra's wet dream.

If we can get #11 and trade that for GC's pick #4.

Curtin, Watson, Caddy would be grouse. Ticking every box we have. Use our first round pick next year on a stacked midfield class.

0:20 - Burst from stoppage, composure to look up and assess before delivering perfectly to the advantage of a team-mate

1:00 - The separation on the lead initially, and then the ability to understand he needs to slow-up and leap, protecting the ball in the air with his body and extend his arms to take it in front with 2 blokes right on him

1:58 - The leap to contest in the air and get the ball to ground which allows his teammate to regain possession inside 50

2:05 - Defensive pressure with the tackle and then smother just after

2:20 - Use of the body to protect the drop zone and then casually sends it 45m with his opposite foot to the top of the goal square to the advantage of a teammate who somehow doesn't take the mark despite being in prime position

2:35 - Again, the breakaway speed from congestion, takes a couple of bounces and delivers perfectly to a teammate inside 50

4:10 - This is a handball about 5-10 guys in the AFL could make or even attempt. He's being tackled and manages to, with his non-preferred hand, deliver a 15m handball to a teammates advantage blindly over his head.

I've said it before, but what I often look for are flashes and signs of elite traits. Watson does things very few, if any, guys in this draft can do and he has a number of elite traits which you get a small picture of in this clip.

His biggest issue for me this year has been his goal-kicking - he should have an additional 10 goals but he's missed his fair share of easy ones. There is also a bit of selfishness in his game but it's improved over time.

News to no one but still sign me up for this at pick 2 or 3 please.

You forgot the bit about how he is a poor kick in front of goal...
