This is some of the top 20 heading into the draft last year:

Will Ashcroft 181cm 78 kgs, 18 games
Ollie Hollands 183cm 71 kgs, 19 games
Jaspa Fletcher 183cm 76kgs, 13 games
Max Michalanney 190cm 78 kgs, 22 games

His weight/height may be an issue, his kicking may be an issue. Who knows at this stage. Put him on a wing and I reckon he's do more than okay.

Also why so much negativity towards him? Is it because people think pick 2 is way overs for him or we might lose him to Tassie one day?

I see an explosive 2 way runner who is composed, can accumulate, apply defensive pressure and can also kick goals regularly. Not too many in the comp (let alone in our own team) I reckon that would be able to do that consistently. Not saying he will, but to me he has the tools that could get him there.
I personally dont like his disposal. Trying to find other deficiencies to spite him. And yes, I think pick 2 is way overs for him.

Still so much angst in here over this bloody pick 1

Seems to me most supporters here are comfortable as WC with them taking Reid, and as North comfortable with us taking Curtin and McKercher.

So why the tension?

If there is some legitimate reason for WC to go a different direction im sure North with make it look good.
If WC are after a kings ransom there is just no reason for North to even talk.

End result Reid is a good fit for WCs list, Curtin is a good fit for ours, let it be and focus energy in other areas.
Still dont rate curtin as a good fit for where our list is at (dont see him as KPD, more a tall HBF)
I think a combination of Reid/Mckercher, watson and o'sullivan would be perfect for us. Ticks of 3 different area's of the field and all provide something we are lacking.

We need a half back though? A smart half back that can read play and follow directions

Anyone opposed to trading back from pick 3 for Giants 6 and 15? I think at that we still get one of that too class. I.e Sully or Caddy or maybe slipping Watson and get more collateral to either trade up or use.

Not that I agree with it from a list balance perspective but there is still some rumblings of a Sanders/McKercher combination being picked by us at 2/3.

I’m of the opinion that Curtin isn’t in our top 5. I think we sit somewhere like (not including Walter):

1. Reid
2. Sanders
3. Mckercher
4. Watson
5. Duursma

Where does Sanders rank for you?

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if they went him early. Those kids are tight and appear driven. Sheezel, Wardlaw, Sanders McKercher ( or Reid) can build something together.

They would be my top 4, ignoring fit or need.

Curtin and trade pick 3 for 2 first rounds. Trade out next years 2 for another first round this year. Go into the draft with 5 first round picks plus 19.

Next years 2 priority end of round 1’s I meant

I think you are on the money. We are obviously keen on Sanders and tried a sneaky way of getting him.

Sanders 100% should be top 4 prospect. Reid, Walter, Mckercher and Sanders are the best 4 prospects. It's just Duursma finished strong and has a higher ceiling but I could see being a bust. Curtin due to the links with WC, because we need a tall and because he is the best key in the open market is the reason he is rated so high. Watson because he could be anything and is in a position hard to find, but has slid.

From list needs we don't need Sanders but if we're picking best available at the pointy end I have no issue with Mckercher and Sanders

If these players can play roles of Half back x 2. Wing x 1 small forward x 1 intercept defender x 1.

Im guessing if we get Fisher thats a wing or half back role, if we can some how get Haynes (stop gap) as an interception defender then we should be drafting to fill a half back, a wing and a small forward.

Right?

Very happy with McKercher and Sanders at 2 and 3.

Yes these 2 guys are just below Reid in terms of potential - but its only 'just below'.

We then use 14 and 19 and also trade those F1 assistance picks to get another top 12 pick this year. These 3 later first rounders should be more needs based selections.

That's 5 talented youngsters plus Brayden George - then add Stephens and Fisher - and we have 8 new players to pick from.

Multiple selections in the top 30 has been what a few of us have been asking for for years now - we haven't been able to do it but it looks possible now.

If we can nail this draft as per above we may finally be able to kick start this rebuild.
