Hell of a recency effect going on
A small forward is great if you move the ball quickly enough in transition to get them one out opportunities. Hill would barely get a kick in our side currently and Spicer would probably kick goals in theirs.
Yeah , nah . He may not thrive as he does at Collingwood but Hill would do fine roving at the feet of Larkey or pushing up the field then doubling back & Spicer would not get a look in at Collingwood . The Pies demand gut running , physical pressure and tackling none of which Spicer possesses at this point in time .

Gotta say I really doubt he goes in the top 4. As good as he looks no recruiter is going to want to be the guy who spent a top pick on a 170cm small forward while the big bodied stallion midfielders taken after him go on to be champions of the league. It's hardly fair on him but height matters. I bet he'll still be on the board if we trade down.
I'd we don't take him, then the dogs will. They're trying to trade for him as we speak.
It's not like we don't have midfielders already mate

Repeating myself, but this thread moves fast.

For me, it's a no-brainer and I hope the club doesn't over-think it:

Pick 2 - Daniel Curtin
Pick 3 - Nick Watson

Do whatever you want with Picks 14/19 and next year's PP freebies. If we use them to trade up with Gold Coast for Pick 4, then you take one of McKercher/Sanders.
Curtin, Kerch and Watson is probably best for list balance. But ITK posters have said that North’s draft list doesn’t match up.

If we get pick 3, I hope we make a play for pick 4 too. With 2, 3 and 4 I would be investing in the spine. We need quality talls. I would take, Curtain, Duursma and then O’Sullivan. We need to finally invest in tall defenders and Duursma is way too good to let slip. If we don’t get pick 4, two of those 3 would be great.

Love how this has gone from a superdraft to a 'ah **** everyone in the top 10 except for the consensus top pick has clear issues' draft.

Got a weird gut feeling that last year's draft class will be far better than this year's. Hopefully we get something good out of it nevertheless

There are no ITK posters when it comes to our draft strategy.

Hawks won't give up 4. But maybe we can get 5.

It’s more an even draft imo. Hard to judge and a distinct lack of genuine mids.

There’s a crap load of KP depth in the draft, through all tiers, plenty of outside run, tweeners, and some rapid late risers. We should be able to significantly address areas we are deficient in, assuming we bring next years picks into this year.

Fascinating how a Grand Final outcome that has absolutely nothing to do with us can cause much discussion on how we should go about the up coming draft.
Exactly.

Hill was pick # 24 at GWS and probably a bust 4 seasons in.

Rankine went # 3 and Schultz # 57 in the same draft.

It is about having a balanced team in a good system but small forward might be the guy we already drafted this year.

We need talls:

Premiership talls:
Moore
Murphy
Cameron
Cox
Frampton

They don’t need to be superstars, they just need to play their role.
Prob would suggest Moore is a superstar. Rest are role players.
Lions had Andrews and Daniher being extremely important in the game.
Not much in the game though.

The pick#4 is the Hawks and they are tipped to take Duursma...if they traded pick #4 to us then we would have to give assurances that we wont take Duursma. l cant see this happening..

Yep. How quickly we forget all those small forwards in recent years that have had absolutely no influence on the gf at all.

But when you're so sold on one guy, you'll look for any reason to support your case regardless of the fact he is already slipping in the rankings.
Hill, Cameron, Bailey and McCartney kicked over 10 goals between them and with other smalls who missed goals there were at least another ten behinds. McCreery kicked 0.3, could have two or three himself.

The year before Stengle kicked 4 for the Premiers to have the game high goals. The year before that Fritsch kicked 6. He's a medium forward, not a small but not a KPF either. Dusty Martin kicked 8 in two Gfs - same height as Fritsch. etc etc.

Mobile forwards are more important than tall forwards in GFs.
.

The GF highlighted how important it is to have a small dynamic fwd. Bobby was obviously bog but Charlie Cameron had electric moments as well. It also highlights that teams need small/med quick rebound defenders to lay on the whippets. Watto is the best small fwd let’s just pull the trigger on him. Then with our second rnd pick let’s get phila to fill the small/med quick defender role.
