Made it to training.
Can report...
The little kids doing the footy clinic stuff? Love Gresh ...one of then announced that his little mate loved Gresh more than he loved his parents. They were also all big Zac Jones fans
Isaac Keeler kicked an amazing left inside out torpedo goal from outside of the boundary line.
Stocker smoked a 5ft high bullet pass ( Goddard special) when they were doing a circle kicking drill on the wing.
Zac Jones was good enough to sign my partners Sydney swans cap😊
The Coffee and Iced oat Latte were 👌
Great way to spend a Monday morning.

You could say that Collingwood would be the opposite with a lot of smaller types. There are lots of ways to set up.

Yes there are, but I do not believe that the Pies are shorter up forward by choice.

They also in the offseason have brought in McStay 195 and Frampton 202 to provide more options.

Gold Coast looked like they were in the same place as us last year, didn't seem to be a bad thing.

Well I think you are half right. Yes their King went down too, BUT they were not in the same place as they brought in Chol 200 and Casboult 201, both of whom were big forwards. Yes it was not such a bad thing for them in 2022 but only as they had brought in two mature key forwards. Without that it probably would have been a much leaner year for them.

So with Hayes and King both definitely gone to start the season, and maybe even half the season we are going to have to try some things. Most likely that we just maximise our players upfield kicking to best available lead.

Membrey, Sharman, Wood as medium talls.
Maybe Cordy, maybe Allison.
They might send Battle forward. Pity as he really seem to have found his spot down back in 2022.

Possibly the very raw Keeler.

Higgins is a good lead and mark for his size

Owens to play HFF. Also the raw Poo may get games.

Again I am mainly about 2024 on, so trying some different things up forward to start 2023 may make us a better team next season (or even this season).

Almost certainly? Odds would have been more him not playing in Round 1 in the firsts, than playing.
I would have had him more likely to play if he was already in full training

With King out and Marshall taking the first ruck role, there's a big hole in the forward half and with another 2 months still until the season starts fitness should have been tracking well

We can't take a trick on the injury front. I wonder if the new training load has anything to do with it. On a positive note it could foster a sense of determination in the face of adversity in the group.

Cracked metatarsal is much better than a complete break. Broke mine in three places and was running 6 weeks later. Was 58 at the time so a 26 y.o will mend quicker.

Was a long shot for start of the season anyway

Howard had a 21 hitout game in 2018.

Not sure i like our chances of finding an experienced ruckman with any talent at this late stage of the pre-season, unless we go for a recent retiree. Preferably one with the initials P R.
Moving him out of defence doesn't leave us with a lot of height down back though.

It probably means Wilkie is the main man in defence.

Battle mostly played the third tall role down back last year and was rarely trusted to take the oppositions best tall.

We could do worse than throw dougal in the ruck at training and see if he can at least create as much, or more of a contest than the likes of sharman/owens etc.

Dougal already loves running at the ball and punching it- we should be seeing if he can turn his hobby into his job
We certainly shouldn’t be rucking Howard apart from down back Even then it’s risky if his opponent isn’t rucking.
