Training 2023 Pre Season

In terms of expectations for this season, I don't think anyone can predict how we'll go. We could realistically finish anywhere from last to top 4 but I think the important thing is how we play. If it looks like our gameplan is capable of beating anyone on our best day then I think we can be happy and know we're on the right path. If it's similar to last year, where one good quarter surrounded by 3 bad ones keeps us in the game then it could be panic stations.

I fully expect us to go super hard in 2024 and make a proper go at a premiership.

Top 4 is extremely EXTREMELY optimistic and last would be a disastrous outcome IMO.

Thats not far off being a compliment TBH. Im not sure that was your intention but here we are

Expecting to make the 8 by just scraping in. All hope gone but some mathematical equations go our way and we make it in with a final round loss but another team gets belted by some astronomical margin.

Nothing to lose since we didn’t expect to make it off a mediocre season but making the 8 papers over the cracks and we’re living high over the off season!

Oooo I hope the team that gets belted and misses out is Carlton. Would one up last seasons choke!

So if im reading this right (and its a small sample straw poll to be fair) all this chat of "Ross has expectations" is outside of the saints faithful and likely the four walls of the club.

Seems alot of other teams think we need to be substantially better results wise this year or the Ross decision was a fail.

Really odd to me, but i guess being relevant is a good thing.
yeah agreed, the Ross failed if they don't make finals narrative is a Kane Cornes sensationalism take.

Signed for four years for a reason.

I beg to differ they have everything to do with training loads and the type of training they are doing.

We havent played a game yet and have 1/3 of the list on the side lines? That smells poor management, the bad luck Saints doesnt wash in a professional environment.

I understand Lyon was eager to lift the training regime standards, but as far as conditioning readiness goes it looks like they have gone far too early!
Unless you know every player training programme you don't have a clue.

Jones, Billings, Gres, Coff, and others all off last year, 3 already back in match sim.

King broke a shoulder, nothing to do with 'load'. Same with Alison and Hayes. Broken bones.

Keeler tweeked a knee again nothing to do with 'load'

Might as well say Paton and Coff did their acl's due to load.

Wondering if you have been down to training? If not may change your mind.

Who from our first 22 do we have out? King? Possibly Billings, maybe Hayes.

As a serious question to all the saints fans here... Are our expectations actually high for 2023?

To me this is a consolidation season, finishing 6th to 8th would be a huge bonus but the point is for Ross and co to settle a structure and gameplan and figure out who on our list is gonna deliver it.

I hate riting a year off before it starts but surely were not actually expecting 23 to be a bounce back year?
My expectations for the year are to see improvements in structure, gameplan, and attitude. Key metrics for me will be cutting down the red-time goals, dumb turnovers in the back half, and tendency the hang the head which sees a couple of goal run against us turn into 5 or 6 on a bad night.

If we get a bit of luck with injuries (we couldn't have done much worse so far, in terms of key positions) during the season proper, I'd expect to see us playing some good football by end-of-season, and set a platform for '24. Sneaking into finals and getting some more experience would be a huge bonus this year.

I just want us to narrow the gap between Best and Worst, we managed to do that at the start and to the half way point of 22, we lost our way and our confidence pretty quickly. I feel like the professionalism and training standards have lifted considerably which can only help in narrowing the gap and always having something to refer back to if your confidence is waining. I see a no reason why we can't finish in the 8 if we stay relatively healthy.

I reckon it would be a challenge, even for gringo2011 , to get him to explore the difference between an analogy and a metaphor, in metaphorical terms.
I'll have a go!

An analogy is a comparison of two things for the purpose of explaining or clarifying something complex or abstract. For example, gringo2011 is like a popcorn machine tightly packed with dormant kernals of creativity that under the right amount of heat burst open and come to life, creating buckets of tasty analogies.

A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is literally not applicable. For example, George is a screeching vuvuzela, which describes him as an instrument that only blasts monotones in the key of screech.

Seems like it is true after all?
