I'm not saying anyone here is wrong about the media favouring WCE over Freo but I think some of the conspiracy theorizing stretches things and makes us look touchy. Commercial news is all about profits and in a state where supporter numbers heavily favour WCE it is to be expected that media bias is exhibited towards that club for commercial reasons. I think this is the single biggest reason why the Media Gods smile on WCE.

100% and its also why the Melbourne papers are obsessed with Carlton, Essendon and Richmond and completely ignore the smaller clubs. It's just incredibly more obvious in a 2 team town and it doesn't mean we can't call it out when it happens here

Rightly or wrongly, they don't have journalistic standards - why a million articles about Nic Nat shows that the demand for West Coast far outstrips Fremantle. Reddit also for a period time genuinely had a ban on articles from The West Australian because it was seen to be low effort content.

BUT* - If how reddit seems to get around Freo way more than West Coast, that their brand of sausage swinging is roundly clowned on there instantly / you can't just say 'hurr durr we're the best' otherwise you'll predictably get swarmed with downvotes.

As well as that Fremantle's social media team clearly know how to dominate in that arena, I wouldn't be surprised if Freo have a huge quiet young following in that 18-30 mark. It'll explode when Freo win a premiership.

I mean hell myself, I joke that I'll be 50 by the time Freo win a flag and my kids will just be becoming adults... and while that's self-depracating it's an ironclad certainty I'm in it for the long-haul irrespective whatever the mob up the road do.

I'm rambling but what am I actually saying? Doesn't matter what The West Australian does, I strongly believe Freo will harness podcasts, social media, and future mediums rather than the reliance on archaic newspapers.

Well said

The daily rags although now digital are becoming less relevant and they know this. They are trying hardest to make money irrespective of journalist integrity.

Freo have a more powerful way of getting information to the state and they are taking over.

It's refreshing

So you'd be 49 then AstonSouffle?

I’m 47 and looking forward to the final of our 3 peat premierships being my 50th birthday present (yes birthday is the last week in September so could happen)

I'm 43

I've been restless at times. I'm ready for the new wave of Freo. My kids will be able to cheer them on with me. Especially my daughter.

A three peat would be awesome. I'm not sure if I'll survive the first premiership as I'll be partying for about a month. Hopefully not locked up or dead from getting loose

my Birthday last week in September as well , Actually was my birthday when we played hawthorn in the GF , Wasn't the present I was hoping for.
On the media bias , I have had vic club supporters mention it to me , If they notice it there is maybe something in it.

Serong’s younger brother looks a good prospect to have and develop with Kuek.
Never seen either him or Stubbs play but unless Stubbs is Tim Kelly good hiding in the WAFL, got to take the extra Serong. If nothing else, he is probably a top bloke (not that Sam can't be) and much younger.

Supposed to be athletic with good skills. If he has 3/4 of Calebs drive he'll be gun one day.

Stubbs got quite the presence on TikTok though. Free advertising

Keen on Serong. The more developing KPFs the better

We messed up that one by reinvesting the neale capital into hogan and lobb (iirc). Ross and Rosich were in a "we need to win or we get the sack" mode by then. If we kept pick 6 we mightve taken one of the king brothers and possibly someone else with a slightly later pick. MOST teams do well when the superstar leaves, if they keep trusting the process.

I feel like you have to usually pay a bit more than market value to get a good player in

Judd at west coast;
Delidio trade gave richmond currency to fix their mids;
Hell even Cerra leaving let us take Amiss
Weller wasn't a superstar for us by any means but very beneficial trade; we were all devo when his trade request came out

I'm tired but I'm sure there are more examples

Whilst you are technically correct as 19 acquired along with pick 6 was the trade for Neale, the Lobb trade and what eventuated worked well for Freo.

In 2018 trade period Dockers sent picks 11 and 19 to the Giants in exchange for Lobb and picks 14, 43 and 47. They then packaged up picks 43, 47 and 55 to send to North Melbourne in exchange for pick 31 (so essentially 11, 19 > Lobb, 14, 31).

Lobb played 66 games for 79 goals between 2019-2022, remembering that he played predominantly ruck in year 1 due to injuries sustained by Darcy that year.

Then in 2022 trade period Fremantle traded Rory Lobb to WB for 30, F2 (tied to WB). They then traded that F2 along with Meek for JOM and pick 42 (after a subsequent trade using the F4 acquired from Hawks). Pick 42 was close to par for Meek (so essentially Lobb > 30, JOM)

So in Summary:
2018: 11, 19 > Lobb, 14, 31
2019-2022: 66 games (79 goals), first year played predominantly ruck
2022: Lobb > 30, JOM

To me that is good trade. Not quite in the Chris Mayne Compo for Brad Hill (and subsequent amaze balls trade of BHill that ended up resulting in Caleb Serong), but not far behind for mine.

The Neale trade was a win, the Lobb trade was a win but the Hogan trade was a massive disaster. Should have kept pick 6 (and the second rounder).

This is legit a marketing team’s dream having Stubbs on the list.

I must be old and out of touch, but what has Stubbs done to get that many followers and likes..

Not sure what his back ground is?
