Autopsy 2023 Rd 10 Blues lose game in first quarter

2012, 2014 and it sadly looks like 2023 is going in the same direction. Whenever this club is expected to step up to the plate, it just never happens.

When we make two steps forwards, we then make another twenty steps backwards. This has been the story of the Carlton football club since the salary cap debacle. Getting rid of Ratts to bring in Mick Malthouse set us back years as well.

That shower of scum are back as legit flag contenders, while we seem to be staring down the barrel of a mini rebuild. Twenty one years worth of mediocrity and crushed dreams. It really is soul destroying. Oh well hopefully this sleeping giant of a club will wake up eventually!
You should have taken Ross Lyon as coach. you would be top 2 by now

Possibly yes, at the seasons end we need to change the assistant coaches.

Vossy is probably going to see out, his three year tenure as coach at the very least. You lot will go close to winning the flag this year unfortunately!

I don't overly like Ross the dross and his boring game plan but with Curnow and McKay, his game plan would almost impossible to beat

This club was once feared. It was once the greatest club in the game, but now opposition players from our biggest rivals just openly laugh at us.

We've lost what made this club the most feared and respected in the game. It's been missing for the last twenty years.

I just hope that we won't be waiting another twenty years before we find it again.

When are we going to turn up to a match, we’ll prepared through the week and switched on??

By well prepared I’m talking about having reviewed our previous game and work towards correcting some things, physical training, oppo game plans analysed, mentally worked up for the game.

I’m thankful that H kicked drop punts. That’s the main correction I saw in this game. It’s something I guess.

Wayne Brittain says hi too.

Been pretty grim since Parkin retied.
He wasn't a bad coach though. Parkin took a back seat in 2000 and let him take the reigns on matchday, where we won 13 in a row and if it weren't for Kouta being injured, the GF would've been very, very interesting to say the least.

In 2001 we finished 5th, though that was because * tanked their Round 22 game against Richmond so they could avoid playing us.

In 2002, yes it was our first wooden spoon but also we were cruelled with injuries. I distinctly remember the North Melbourne game where we were on top of them, and suddenly we lost 3 very important players. Brittain said in this press conference that it was like there was a sniper in the stands, picking our players off.

I think the players need a "Melbourne intervention" type thing where all the players gather somewhere out in the country or somewhere peaceful, have a frank and personal discussion about things. Gawn did this with his players and they turned things around, the players need to hone in on some home truths and to be honest with themselves. I do feel there's discontent, but not with Voss per se - but with the playing group. We can only guess what's happening internally, but maybe some players dislike each other and toxicity is building up from that?

I thought Voss's presser was okay. He's been consistent in what he expects from the team and he isn't giving anyone easy outs. Voss's main priority is getting our team defense up to modern standards for once. Considering what a shell of a forward line we have and our midfielders threat level going forward I guess that's a good place to work around. People want the flashy Teague stuff (our players certainly do) but if he manages to make a Carlton side hard to play against without needing 3-4 taggers this time around I'll be amazed.

People nit picking buzz words seems to be our main complaint from the pressers.

He uses a lot of modern sporting language (sports science/psychology terms) and I guess that upsets people who aren't used to that.
Our defensive structure has gone so far backwards this year. It was much better last year as we were a strong intercept team. That’s gone now.
Our mids also still don’t defend in transition.

Voss can focus on that part of the game plan however it’s clearly not working and regressing by the week

I’m going to pick up on an observation from people at the game.

That when a Carlton player had the ball from a mark or free and looked up the ground, the Carlton players were not moving to give a target.

Surely that is on the players and is easily fixable.

Spot on.

When they signed Voss they knew they needed to hire assistants for him. Every ITK we had posted the same thing.

The only A grade assistant we have is Hansen. Luke Power is highly respected too but I'm not yet convinced.
How do you know Hansen is A grade? He had a few wraps on him before coming but our forward line has been shocking for 18 months.

He had spent 9 years at the dogs.

Not sure if he’s up to the hype

We are a sad club.

In my lifetime we have finished top 4 once. ******* ONCE. For reference, I've been legally drinking beers for 7 years now.

I'll always support this club but I've pretty much given up hope that we'll make a granny in my young adulthood, let alone win one.

Just sad.
Keep the faith mate. I know it's not easy, but our day will come.

I’m over this “mid field defensive pressure” crap, watch the clip from the first crack- mids cheat forward (don’t support an easy outlet) ball turns over & they are 5m away from applying pressure. They also sag back for the outlet from the back of the contest- ball goes forward & again they are 5m away from applying pressure.
It’s the ****ing structure & system!
They arent lazy, slow or incompetent (maybe a little on occasion) they 100% aren’t in the right position to impact! (Both defensively & offensively) 🤦‍♂️

1. Too much thinking that Charlie/Harry taking a mark down the line is option A.
2. Lack of confidence/knowledge in the game plan in the situations where Charlie/Harry is not an option.

It’s not all on the players but yes easily fixed.

Good comparison but I feel like we've become Aston Villa. A once giant with a proud history (they're still among the leaders in top flight premierships before the big money era changed the PL forever) but reduced to struggling for mediocrity for decades now.
We have a lot in common with english football clubs like Everton and Aston Villa. Carlton, Everton and Villa, are historic sporting institutions.

The ironic thing is that just like Carlton, the english Blues Everton haven't had an ounce of success since 1995 either.

I still have hope that Carlton will get back to the top of the mountain eventually. With Everton the dream died years ago sadly.

A post on reddit made me search the last time we beat Collingwood at home.

Round 3 2012

🤯
Since 2012 i think we've only beaten the filth three times. A pretty disgraceful stat that is.

Dow just had 40 touches, 10 clearances, 10 inside 50’s in the reserves.

If there is any essence of selection integrity he must come in.

Our midfield has been absolutely pitiful and the majority should be dropped

Agree Dow has to play but only if he’s in the middle. Pointless putting him on the wing or HFF, we’ve tried that and it’s one of the reasons he never holds his spot.

But Dow doesn’t exactly bring something different to the group, so one of Hewett Cripps & Kennedy has to make room.

I’d drop Ed and put Kennedy to HFF.

Midfield is so out of form I’d happily drop Hewett too. Very very ordinary this year.

Dropping Cripps would be a big statement. Seems intent on playing as an outside mid even though he’s at his best with head over ball. Haven’t see him go forward once. Needs a different role to whatever he’s being asked to do at the moment.

Our inside contested bulls have all decided to become outside runners.

The first crack footage was damning.

Delete the game plan. System is cooked. Time for some see ball get ball. Let the talent shine.

Not many positives from today but thought Boyd was bright spark in his return. Hope he gets a good run at it.

The fact we highlight that kick tells us allwe need to know. That is a kick any AFL player should be hitting to a leading forward. Goes to show how we just dont lead and people need to highlight such a play as a rarity

(im not bagging the player, good kick and all - but that is what an AFL player should be hitting)

Watched Voss press conference just now. Fair to say he nourished my view that he's a moron.

Essentially conceded that he has no expectations on the team's abiltiy to implement his defensive system in the second half.

Said that we don't want to be an outcome based football team. I'm not sure what magic measurement of sucess Voss has that doesn't involve winning, but I'd like to know so I can also start celebrating the losses.

When asked about negating Darcy Moore's impact he said they went after Daicos instead, and was of the view that you can't go after both. Would love to have him explain this logic so I could fully comprehend his incompetence.
That's gold.
POTY.

Just watch him ignore TDK and Dow's efforts again this week,,, and select Fish or probably more likely swap George with Ed.

I wonder if Docherty would be interested in a leadership role again. He was really good and should be in a leadership position

same leadership role as trying to kick a goal from 80m out and kick it straight to a pies player when he harry all on his own?

terrible from a 'leader'
