I think Its easier to change the coach or coaches then to change the players, but agreed some need to be moved on.
Look at St kilda and hate to say it Essendon with new coaches they are thriving and our list is way better in my opinion. We have 2 coleman medalists and a brownlow medalist and we are dishing up crap week in week out didnt make the finals last year and i dont think we look like making it this year. We have no run and carry his playing the game plan of the early 2000's, contested possession and kick it long and too stubborn to change his ways. We have no pizzaz or cohesion when we are playing and our x factor is non existant. Couple more weeks and he will loose the players if he hasnt done already.

I’ve been to two Pies games this season and about 12 other games (all Carlton’s and a few as a neutral) and the Pies supporters have been far and away the worst.

They seem to find their pleasure in cutting down the opposition and bagging the umpires rather than just enjoying the win. I find it so strange. Massive chips on their shoulders. You’d honestly think they want the umpires to carry them to the Premiership rather than earn it themselves (Tigers fans very similar in that regard). These are adults, in the MCC, and sitting behind my elderly parents.

Next time we beat them, I will find the guys who were sitting behind us yesterday, remind them of that experience, and then politely but unapologetically stick it up their arses.

Save for a couple, I don’t mind their players/team.

I said from the moment we hired Voss that I didn't think he was the right man for the job. Great bloke. Great player. Would probably maek a decent Assistant...but he's clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed. A senior coach needs to be smart and able to create an environment that everyone buys into...and sadly for Vossy, I just don't think he's cut out for senior coaching.

Having said that, it'd probably make us even more of a laughing stock and complete embarrassment if we sacked him. He clearly needs major assistance from a smart, experienced coaching group. Blokes like Chocco Williams, Don Pyke, Alan Richardson...he needs a coupld of blokes like that surrounding him.

One positive for us has to be Matt Owies.

Despite playing in a broken structure and dealing with injury, he is currently third among small forwards for goals per game, behind only Charlie Cameron and Toby Greene. Also managed to be the only player other than Charlie/Harry to kick a goal yesterday.

For a bloke that many want sent to the glue factory he is having a very good year.

"We should continue with a lame duck coach because it would be worse to admit we made a mistake" is exactly the kind of ego-preservation that has led to us being a basket case for a generation

This club was once feared. It was once the greatest club in the game, but now opposition players from our biggest rivals just openly laugh at us.

We've lost what made this club the most feared and respected in the game. It's been missing for the last twenty years.

I just hope that we won't be waiting another twenty years before we find it again.
I am not laughing at you. During pre season on the Carl v Coll who will end up higher thread, I said the two clubs would play off in the GF. I think Voss needs some better support around him and a really good tactical coach. Yesterday, the Carlton players looked confused and that's on the coach

Spot on.

When they signed Voss they knew they needed to hire assistants for him. Every ITK we had posted the same thing.

The only A grade assistant we have is Hansen. Luke Power is highly respected too but I'm not yet convinced.
Was it researched that potentially good assistants were interested in joining Voss's coaching panel?
This should have been the prerequisite of selecting any coach.

After listening to Power's 3/4 time motivational "blast" in yesterday's Willy game, I'm not convinced either.

If it wasn’t for Charlie Curnow we’d be sitting in the bottom 4 right now. He might not even be enough from saving us from falling into it by the bye.

80,000 at the G today and it was like a morgue

- skill level disgrace is a disgrace, there’s no care with the ball in hand.

- ball movement and system is broken

- defensively we are a shambles

It’s coaching and it’s players …

The game plan is not great but i’m not sure exactly it is that I’m watching. All i see is poor skills and decision making from the vast majority of our players every week.. bar the first 8 games last year this group has been deplorable for 8 years . Not sure another new coach fixes these guys.
Our game plan is called The Dementor.
It sucks joy out of all who come in contact with it, even the opposition teams.

Play Kemp forward instead of jsos. He's played there before and done ok. No harm in trying him there. As much as jsos gives tremendous effort, he doesn't play his position well enough, that is to kick goals.
Agree. At least bring Kemp in and move the magnets around so we're not so predictable. Teams know, flood back on Charlie and other than Big H,there's no other threat there. Game over.

There's also salary cap relief to be had.

Pies cleaned out a few bad contracts and look where they are now.

We've got plenty of shockers on our books right through to 2030.

Time to offload a few.

Not Really the same though, you aren’t clearing a big contract, the contract is up. The Pies moved on Treloar, Stephenson and Grundy half way through big deals.

Our defensive structure has gone so far backwards this year. It was much better last year as we were a strong intercept team. That’s gone now.
Our mids also still don’t defend in transition.

Voss can focus on that part of the game plan however it’s clearly not working and regressing by the week
It seems as Weitering 's confidence in the backline has taken a beating its worn off on others. Being at the game yesterday i noticed it was Young trying to absorb all the incoming pressure. Weitering was so far away from his man/the contest he just looked completely disconnected. Somethings right off with him. Its sad,he was once our rock down back.

In one way, I like that Voss is backing himself, "right or wrong, but never in doubt." One the other hand it borders on stubbornness.

Our clearance game has improved after wandering away earlier in the year to build the transition/turnover game

Unfortunately, I sense it has become somewhat confusing for the players

Medium to longterm we will be okay, short term it's hurting us

Needs to go back to a pure contested game for the rest of the year, address transition in the off season

Starts and ends with Voss

Harsh, but needs to make a statement with one of the senior players, a scapegoat as such

I don't think it will take much, nor do i think it's complicated, more a collective mindset of players embrassing more pressure for longer and a bit more composure

Yeap

Might sound dumb, but I was more wondering g withe the coaching, could anyone of quality be added to the group now? Or would it be too late to make an impression?

Forget money implications, if you have someone good, you pay them and pay the tax, I’m wondering if there is anyone who we could actually add to help?

noticed a few times yesterday, but we'd get a mark in the middle part of the ground and the player would stop/hold up near where the mark was waiting for a player to run past for the hands. it doesnt eventuate and then they have to go back and have their kick, in that time the pies had already flooded back leaving only the bomb to a contest or the sideways chip.
We're cooked all that is left to go for everyone else but * and the filth. hopefully * still dont win a final and the filth lose a prelim

what about Ken, Port seem keen to sack him.. they say the players love him ..

Voss - no tactical sense at all. No plan B. Each week we get massacred with this slow ball movement and yet each week he keeps backing the system. I at least thought he would set some standards akin to the one of the games greatest ever captains. But no he’s this new age ‘woke’ coach who’s afraid to look players in the eye.

Ash Hansen - has the last 2 Coleman medalists at his disposal, yet we are constantly double teamed and have no forward tactic what so ever. Why is there no one ever crumbing when the ball hits the ground?

Aaron Hamill - what had happened to our backline? Aaron Hamill so called team defence. It is an absolute horror show. Where had the intercept marking gone? At least in years past we’d get caught out the back but we’d be an intercepting force.

Tim Clark - besides Cerra everyone has gone backward. Besides the contest where this year we aren’t even winning, what else do our midfields excel at?

Aaron Greaves - coaching director? What does he even do. Absolutely useless! Get rid of him.

Andrew Russell - taking up half the soft cap. Our players can’t run out game, nor are they strong enough. Well past it and needs to be moved on.

Brad Lloyd - been absolutely horrible since he came in. Our football department has continuously underperformed. How has he survived this long?
Love your point about intercept marking.
Is this a directive from Voss?
We need answers. Voss needs a LOT of help.
It won't come from Brad Lloyd who thinks he's the wunderkind.
So
Much
Trouble.
Not waving. Drowning.

I’m going to pick up on an observation from people at the game.

That when a Carlton player had the ball from a mark or free and looked up the ground, the Carlton players were not moving to give a target.

Surely that is on the players and is easily fixable.

The Pies were the opposite, they had their players running in packs, riding shotgun on either side to get the next handball an sprint away. We were left in their dust.

Nothing wrong with the Voss presser.
He thinks he knows what the issues are and he was pretty strong on it.
Not sure what else you’d expect from 10 minutes of post match questions.
Do you really think he does though? There is confusion everywhere. From Harry's very first goal, he went to stand side on for the snap kick then straightened up for the Drop punt. To the look of absolutely disdain on Voss and Cripps face at the boundary line "conversation".

Cripps needs to realize his strengths and stick to them, no super hero run and gun shit.

He's a KPP sized midfielder who can excel in close. He needs to be given license to destroy, smash the opposition bodies and get a handball out to a runner at all costs. When he's not doing that, drift forward to be a tall threat. Nothing more, nothing less.

At this point.
I'd take any Scott, a grumpy tigger coach or a Ken. But I do wonder if we interviewed Craig McCrae, or was he already taken by Pies, or did he not want to interview for us. Anyone know? Wick?
