2 picks inside 10 and King?

Not possible.

Who are you trading out?

It was dependent on a salary dump and moving down.. that I’ve posted already.

3 and f2/3 out to gws for 9 and f1.
2nd rounder for 6 and a salary dump player.

Dependent on giants need for cap space, but they clearly don’t value mid first round picks anywhere near as highly as other clubs after watching them all leave over the years.

We’d then have two f1’s to trade for King. Doesn’t seem that outrageous.

Gresham is on pretty big coin already.

What’s he worth in free agency or what will the offers be 700-800k a year?

If so that means the Saints get another first round pick as comp?

As it stands, Gold Coast will have an interesting amount of KPF next year.

  • King - good KPF
  • Lukosius - good KPF
  • Chol - flashes of being a good KPF
  • Casbolt - workmanlike KPF
  • McLaughlin (top of VFL goalkicking)
  • Burgess (#2 VFL goalkicking)
  • Walter (#1 level draftee)

That's pretty unusual considering we have:

  • Lewis
  • Kosi
  • Ryan
  • possibly DBG

Yes if you are Chol Burgess McLaughlin you must be looking for greater opportunity. I floated that we should go for Burgess as a stop gap whilst ramsden develops but it seems Ryan is their choice for that.

For a few seasons we had Buddy,
Rougie, Boyle, Dowler, & Thorp as our Key Forwards. It's better to have depth in that department, especially if injuries hit, or some players fail to come on as expected.

A couple of years ago we had Lewis, Kosi, Jeka, & Callow as our options. Callow was de-listed, Jeka struggled as a forward, & Kosi failed to nail down that 2nd Forward spot.

Ideally we would add another Key Forward at the end of the season to balance out our list.

They're all fake accounts anyway. The gold coast doesn't have any supporters. You go to matches at metricon, and everyone you talk to in a gold coast jumper in the crowd is a supporter of some other club, but go to games because they live there.

Same with GWS. I know about a dozen Hawthorn members who are also GWS members so they can see football every 2nd week. Ive not met a GWS member who wasnt also a member of a different team.

Though a friend of mine has. So maybe there is one.

I know one. He’s from the Blue Mountains and when he moved to Melbourne he quickly worked out that he had to pick a team to “support”. No interested in footy, but he tells anyone who asks that he’s a Giants supporter and “Tony Greene” is his favourite player

Can't stop wondering who this mystery A-Grader is....

It's me.

I've been practicing real hard in the backyard.

Essendon are going to have to increase their offer to McKay by $200k, or 33%, in order for the contract to meet band 1 compensation.

If they increase their offer by that extent at the expense of losing Parish they should fold.

BOMBERS STEADFAST ON MCKAY CALL
The Bombers will also likely baulk at offering up a top draft pick in a trade for Ben McKay in the event North Melbourne matches a free agency bid.

The Bombers want McKay, 25, but are keen to land the full back as a free agent which means McKay would come without trading a pick away.

However, North could match the free agency bid, meaning McKay would either stay at Arden St or switch clubs only as part of a trade in return for a first or second-round pick.

Essendon coach Brad Scott is eager to use the Bombers’ picks on top young talent rather than trading those selections away for mature-age players.

Essendon’s strong preference to land McKay as a free agent rather than a trade adds more uncertainty to the Kangaroo’s situation with two games remaining in the season.

The grey area surrounding the process is why some senior figures believe the compensation picks should be scrapped altogether for free agents.

North Melbourne want a first-round pick for McKay, but the compensation pick the Roos would receive is more likely to be end of first round or second round due to his salary.

The Bombers are set to offer McKay about $600,000 a season – triggering end of first round compensation – rather than $800,000 which would trigger a first-round compensation pick tied to their ladder position (pick three).

North Melbourne has not yet put an attractive offer to McKay. It is why the defender has not made a decision on his future.

This cloud is considered a factor in his up and down form this season.

Hawthorn is also chasing a key defender and has been linked to a move on Geelong’s Esava Ratugolea.

McKay is worth an early second at absolute best in a trade.

FA compo was already becoming a bit of a joke with Daniher if McKay gets it as well it’s ridiculous.

The compo is there for a good reason. Just the AFL can’t let clubs rort it like they have.

I've been getting so excited about our future prospects over the past two weeks, but that Esava footnote keeps hovering over everything like a big, ominous cloud.

Hopefully ends up like Jake Carlise by winding up at the team he was linked to first and foremost (Port Adelaide).

The compo should be scrapped all together imo. No other professional sports league in the world has it.

NM should either match the bid if they want to keep him that badly or agree to a trade prior to FA. Compo for losing a free agent is pure amateur nonsense

It's interesting, the currency required to get King out of Gold Coast THIS year would be monumental. Effectively the same cost as trading up to pick 1 and nabbing Harley Reid.

What would people rather?
  1. Ben King
  2. Harley Reid
  3. Use Pick 3 + F1 in the draft
  4. Use Pick 3 in the draft, trade F1

Option 4 is my favourite.
Could get around 2 or 3 easily.
Don't like option 1 for us this year.

I think the best outcome for Hawthorn would be a combination of Option 1 and Option 4. We should use pick 3 and use our F1 + F2(ours or someone else's that we need to trade in) to secure Ben King. We can get King in our system an year earlier and Gold Coast with a new coach can put together a core group that is actually interested in playing for them.

Its more comical when you think that the greatest player of this generation(who btw got a ridiculous offer to switch) was compensated with Pick 19 while North are literally begging the AFL to get pick 3 for McKay whose greatest achievement to date is that he figured out North are $hit and he wants out.

We have Ramsden also and Jeka can play at both ends.

Casboult will likely retire at seasons end and I imagine Chol will look around if King stays.

I remember you made reference some time back the physiology of the King twins in relation to their running style and the potential for injury.

Given all the scuttlebutt about us being interested in Ben, I'd be keen if you could enlighten us all on the subject. In your opinion, what would the club need to do to address the issues so as to minimise any potential related injuries if he were to come across?

Fine with compo but should be based on Salary the current club offers to player who rejects it.

1. Clubs should be compensated based on the value they place on their player, not value placed by another club.
2. Band 1 compo should be Picks in 5-10 range
3. Band 2 in 10-20 pick
4. every band from here on in 10 pick batches.

A formula can sort out where it falls in range that takes Salary package and team position on ladder.

There should be no fa compo and no discount on academy or f/s selections.

It’s just like Brad crouch leaving Adelaide. NM want a first round pick, they will get an end of first round or second round pick (my money is on a second Rd pick, but not much difference for them.)
ESS aren’t going to give up more than that, so North will just accept the offer.
Matching just risks him leaving for nothing in the draft.
They can talk tough all they want, but will fold because they have no leverage. North aren’t spending a draft pick to grab him back.

And he would be lucky to get $600,000 his trash, I find it funny that north is asking to pay him more, he just wants out 😂

They won’t match, they will just beg
