It’s obviously cryptic

Who are we sending to the wilds of Shelley St West Heidelberg in exchange for the big fella?

That's what i think. Find the talent , get them to come to the Saints , THEN Get rid of others if you need the cap space.
Keep reading things here which have the vibe of...
" He's been no good this year, we should trade him ". WRONG He's been no good , so he's not worth much, lets get him back to where he was ".
" I was all for trading XXX , but now he's playing good footy". THEN it might be the best time to trade him.

No-one wants the old crap you sit on the nature strip and they'll take it for free if they got stoned enough to want it.
That’s all fine IF he wants to stay
It’s also not as if Gresham will transform our midfield - that’s that gaping hole in our side
He’s good on his day and ofcourse no draft pick is assured but I’d rather take the chance on bringing in some elite talent (especially if we can snag pick 4)..than sit mid table hoping after 8 years Gresham decides to become a consistent star (which he isn’t)

Oh please we specialise in lousy trades Fergus watts, Barry brooks, Andrew Lovett to other rippers like tom Lee, hickey, longer to Hannebery and so on. Even hill and howard weren’t great deals or do you want to go back to when we put Russell Greene in a taxi or earlier to trading Ian stewart for billy barrot. We absolutely have a record of some crazy trades and I can only hope we’re not cooking up another.

Every team has had bad trades....none of ours even makes the top 10...

I'd rather keep 13 or 18 and not get shiel
Shiel is cooked , currently has a foot injury and will start preseason late because of it and that is if he does get over it.
I'd use whatever we get for Gresham and go to the draft with it , Shiel is a no go for me - unless we get a higher first round pick and give them 50 for him just for the trade.
Paying his salary for a year is more than payment.

He is wanting more money than what he is worth.

Great to see Chris Scott and RTB go on the attack about the handouts given to the Roos

It has?

We have played 3x more finals than we had in the decade prior to him. Not to mention he has been an example setter for players like Nas and windy coming through.

The hanneberry thing was a mistake...it's also no worse than deals that other clubs have done. Like shiel to essendon, touhy to cats for smedts, jet Anderson to north from hawks.....

Nick blakey was also an academy player and went with the 10th pick...completely unsure how our 2nd round pick is even relevant there...

Your just whinging at shadows really...

Whinging at shadows, FMD you must be struggling through puberty right now.

Yes it has set us back, hence why we are shopping Gresham for FA compo and trying to get back into the draft.

Hill is a fine player, but when we took King the year before it was an odd list management choice to chase a 27 year old wingmen, let alone give away the farm for him to be an "example setter". Tepid, bog average list management would have us with Serong/Pickett/Day, Acres & a few speculative picks instead of a 30YO Hill & Howard.

Why is it a poor example of trade/list management incompetence? That trade has 100% set us back years.

I am not giving Ralph much credence, but I've been absolutely shocked at our incompetence before, so surprise me.

Hannebery is relevant because it will go down as the worst/best salary dump of all time… shows that we have NFI how they're meant work. Fancy taking 3 million off Sydney's books whilst also giving them picks. We help them with Nick Blakey and end up with Bytel, Parker and an elite rehabbing cocaine addict who eeks out 18 average games in 4 years.
God you spout some garbage sometimes, we still have 4 of the five players on the list, Hill was our best in the finals and easily his best year under Ross and Wood played just as well as Acres.
Hannebery was 6 years ago .

Sam Walsh took Paddy Dow to the brownlow
Can Paddy bring him to the Saints to reciprocate?

You seriously going back 10, 15, 20 years? Come on what bad trades have we done in the last 5 years?
Paddy Ryder, great trade
Howard, ok, not a disaster
Hill, overpaid but had his best year and arguably our best player in the final
Jones, an I jury bust really
Butler has been good, so three out of 5
Higgins, been good.
Cordy, depth only
Our drafting since 2017 has been good
Coff and Clark, jury still out
King
Allison a miss but we got Crouch for free
Naz, Windy, chito
Pou, Hotton, Keeler, Van Es, haven't seen the last three.
If you have to go back to more than five years it means FA, nobody is at the place anymore and the drafting and trading has been on target for years.
Everything else is just pearl clutching and bed wetting.

We'll always have that elimination final loss where brad hill played well, sure beats having a bunch of gun young mids on the list who might be there when Max King hits his straps. 😂

Hannebery was on the list last year mate, eating up millions of cap space we could have been front-loading or god-fathering a gun player. 6 years ago was 2017 btw, I hope you don't work with numbers for a living.

So Sydney got a player from their Academy they would have got anyway and a player who played 4 games before being sacked with domestic violence charges?

Hanners cost a shit load of cap, a large amount we were going to lose if we didn't spend it that year, but we didn't lose out much. AT least he won us a final.

So you'd do the trade again?

Let's not let facts get in the way of milk being spilt and flicked all over the room though....

The players we recruited with Hill helped us play finals this year. If we did get serong with that pick, what's to say we are where we are now?

The last few years our trade and draft periods have been exceptional for what hand we had.
People claimed we couldn't not get a good free agent - well we beat the Cats in getting Crouch and some of the kids we have brought into the team like Owens , Nas , Windhager , Camaniti , Phillipou are already out performing more senior players in the team.
On top of this we have some very good kids that I'm sure will be pushing for selection next year in Keeler , Hotton , Heath and Van Els.

We are also attracting players like Henry who was a pick 9 in his draft year and was chased hard by Hawthorn and Demons so something has brought drawing power to the club.

We can all dwell in the past , but it's time to look forward because we are heading in the right direction.

It was a stuff up because it was the wrong time to top up and sold our future to do it. Finals without being consistently competitive and closer to a flag is a waste of time and actually sets you back losing access to good picks. We are still rebuilding and he's unlikely to be in our next flag side. Making yourself artificially competitive is the worst possible outcome.

Comparing ourselves to some of the other shit deals doesn't make ours less aggravating.
