Feeling very glad I didn't stay up for the late game, having now watched the replay to discover balls 18.2 to 19.2 of the second innings were cut from the broadcast due to technical difficulties. Unacceptable!

I think the Up Warriorz have a very underrated squad. Ecclestone and Deepti Sharma are not only just good spin bowlers, they are more than capable with the bat.

I think watching them in bits and pieces last night they are the team to beat.

It still probably should've been a Gujarat win, without Mooney, which doesn't say a lot for da Warriorz.

Outrageous wide called via review and then terrible misfield on the 4th ball of the 20th over. So 4 runs off the last ball to tie turns into 1 needed off 2 to win, at which point Sutherland bowls a textbook we've-already-lost full toss to end it.

Game 4 of the WPL

I also dont really understand Bangalore tactically. They are only using their allocation of 3 international players in their first XI. (for last night and I think for the first game)

Im not sure some of those fringe Indian players in their team, are any better than some international players. Or maybe its a matter of bad recruiting? Their spinners for instance were pretty ineffective last night. It feels a bit more like a top-heavy pace attack team than top quality spinners.

Which of Devine, Perry, Knight and Schutt look Indian to you, mate? Rofl.

But I should address ^this...

Point 1
If they had the Dane van Niekerk of a few years ago, she would be the 2nd overseas player picked every match. Guaranteed 4 overs of quality spin to build the bowling attack around, and solid middle order hitting (and, yes, she was far more nimble in the field back then).

Considering the start RCB have had, they probably still need to bite the bullet and pick her now (if she isn't injured). But it is a big gamble, because who knows what sort of bowling form she's in. Averaged 65 at 7.76 rpo in her last WBBL season (2021-22), bowled 3 overs in The Hundred and done nothing since. Hasn't taken a wicket in ~18 months.

Point 2
From what I've seen of Kanika Ahuja, which is admittedly very little, she is a promising 20yo off-spinner. That she's in the side seemingly as a specialist no.7 bat is very surprising to me. Can't believe she hasn't been given an over at least.

To be fair I havent watched much of Kanika play before. But she looked quite good with the bat last night. Bangalore from 7 to 11 with the bat, look a tad weak compared to other sides. Also Sophie Devine hasnt really set the world on fire with the bat in the last 12 month or so. I do feel that if you get 2-3 early wickets to the Bangalore team, you can really expose them.

Wouldn't say it was a terrible misfield, fielder was unlucky the ball spun at right angles. Inspector Gadget might have stopped it, not many others.

Lol it spun in a highly predictable fashion for a ball sliced out to deep cover, and dribbled to the rope. Even in the air it was starting to boomerang.

A typical boundary rider in the WBBL (somebody like Bridget Patterson, doesn't even need to be an Aus national player) would make it look very easy to stop because she isn't going to overcommit and give away her feet in that situation.

During the first match, the sentence "that will be fielded this time next year" was used in commentary, and I think it applies to this case too.

Game 5 of the WPL. Battle of the unbeaten teams.

Delhi Capitals Women (Playing XI): Meg Lanning(c), Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, Jemimah Rodrigues, Alice Capsey, Jess Jonassen, Taniya Bhatia(w), Arundhati Reddy, Shikha Pandey, Radha Yadav, Tara Norris

UP Warriorz (Playing XI): Alyssa Healy(w/c), Shweta Sehrawat, Kiran Navgire, Tahlia McGrath, Deepti Sharma, Simran Shaikh, Devika Vaidya, Sophie Ecclestone, Shabnim Ismail, Anjali Sarvani, Rajeshwari Gayakwad
