6-7 kids fighting it out for pick 1
Prob no need to move up the order… we need to trade these picks for established players

It’s a deep draft too, apparently, and quite even all around. Top up on some later picks in positions of need instead. Players with no pressure to perform straight away, who need to work hard to earn a spot.

We actually have blooded a large amount of kids in the last couple of years.

I'm not saying its an excuse anymore, but you can absolutely see where our improvement next year and onward is going to come from.

Powell / King / Luko only 24
Rowell / Anderson / Flanders / Rosas 23
Moyle / Jeffrey / Davies / Clohesy 22
Uwland / Mac 21
Humphrey / Graham <20

Thats 15 of our best 22. Making finals this year would still be amazing but it's not altogether surprising to see a list of guys mostly 24 and under not quite at the level.

And before people say 'the Hawks are doing it'

guys 24 and under playing best 22 football at Hawthorn:
Newcomb / Day 24
McDonald / Ginnivan 22
Ward 21
McKenzie / Weddle 20
Watson <20

Half the amount we had. And that's being generous with Ward who has been stuck in the 2's (although I did include Davies for us)

Essendon in for a rough few years though.

Not specifically suns related but interesting listening to Scott pendlebury yesterday saying clubs should have more power on where players will be traded, also heard dangerfield saying similar a while ago. Would be a great move for the smaller clubs and stop the gun players just ending up at the big clubs at the top of the ladder.

Given 'homesickness' is such a prominent cause of trade, they should limit players to a choice of state.

Yeah this is the solution.
makes it more equitable for smaller market teams in Melbourne too. The only ones that wont like it are the big free agent teams like Richmond / Carlton / Collingwood / Geelong

Imagine how much quicker North / Saints could have rebuilt if they were able to actively bid for good free agents that wanted to go back to Victoria.

It also disincentivises players from pulling that bullshit to try and weasel their way to the best teams like Lynch. Much more likely to stick fat if you thought there was risk you can get shipped off to a worse situation than you're in.

Difference there would be those competitions don't have 10/18 teams in one place.

It is ridiculous though
That is an actual fair counterpoint though.

But yes, It's often the reverse with a player getting drafted by his hometown team being a feel good story.

Australia living up to the "everything is opposite" meme

The idea of being traded to "move back home" has become normalised.

So much so that when JOM moved to the Hawks he was also "moving back home".

Hard to overcome that.
