Holds 27,500, according to the stadium's website.

About The Stadium

As a part of the AFL expansion into the Gold Coast, a new $144M stadium has been built at Carrara. The stadium has a capacity of 27,500 spectators and is capable of being extended to approximately 40,000 in the future

On the AFL website venues, it says this

The old Carrara Stadium, originally opened in 1987 as home of the Brisbane Bears, was completely redeveloped and re-opened as Metricon Stadium in 2011 as the home ground of AFL expansion club Gold Coast SUNS. The stadium is now known as Heritage Bank Stadium and features a seating capacity of 22,500 and first-class corporate facilities.

Both numbers are wrong weirdly, the capacity for AFL games is 25,000. We’ve had 23,000 odd at a Collingwood game once.

Ground only holds 22.5k. Couldn't have been that many empty seats.

That venue has the same issue as giants stadium, the seats are never full because heaps of people stand up the back of the bottom level. It's a bit of a design flaw, i mean good live at the game to have that option, but not a good look on tv.

Thats interesting as Ausstadiums has it listed as 22.5k.

That same link (the official AFL website) shows conflicting info:

The record crowd there from 2014 is more than 24k, there’s no way 22.5k adds up to me.

And in 2020 during covid when it was restricted to 50% capacity (i think) for finals Richmond vs St Kilda got 13.7k

Would you folk care to explain a bit more what’s happening and how it is failing?
I went there in 2012 to watch dogs v suns.
We had to drive to a designated car park in the swamp and wait to jump on a shuttle bus to Carrara.
Same on the return.
The stadium has a great feel and good viewing but its location and transport was vomit 10 years ago.
It may be different since com games

I’m a suns member, was there tonight and in the last 1/4 it was a really good atmosphere. Really good crowd for a Sunday twilight, and definitely a lot of bombers fans travelled up
I actually think the Bombers contingent was more made up of SEQ locals, there are a lot of us around. Yes, some travelled up but not being school holidays and late Sunday meant it could’ve been a lot more if scheduled in a holiday period. If I was the Suns, I certainly want big Vic clubs scheduled at Carrara during holidays to maximise their match return. School holiday/ public holiday scheduling is where most of their record crowds have been achieved.

Current average attendance on the Gold Coast is tracking well compared to previous seasons.

View attachment 1995514

The next two games against Essendon and Collingwood will hopefully be able to crack 20,000 each.

The remaining games are against Port, Brisbane and Melbourne which would hopefully draw 15,000 each if the Gold Coast remain in the 8.

That could see the Gold Coast achieve their highest average attendance since year 1 (excluding home games not played in Gold Coast).
21759 i think i heard for GC vs Bombers

Looks like we are off to a good start.

The important thing is, is the amount of gc fans increasing each year to make up a bigger percentage of the crowd at these games?

Agree with that. In the stadium, it felt pretty close to a 50/50 split between the two sets of fans. If anything, possibly just a tiny bit in the Bombers favour overall. I guess it depends on which side of the ground you were on though.

In their smaller games this year, Suns seem to have been drawing 10-11k of their fans with the balance made up of opposition teams fans.

The atmosphere was good though. Lots of families which bodes well for the Suns 👍

Crowd definitely in the bombers favour, there’s a lot of ex Victorians up here that support their Melbourne team number 1 but genuinely also support the suns. Plenty of suns members still support a vic team.

However a lot of the time their children have a greater connection with the suns. So in time the mix in the crowd will change and that’ll accelerate if the suns have a period of success.

As a long term Gold Coaster and footy fan I’m glad the “get rid of the suns” chat is pretty much gone now, AFL footy is in a good spot and getting better up here

Well said. I was being a bit diplomatic, agree the Bombers were in numbers.

The Suns are building. The schools are full of kids playing AFL and their base is growing. I’m a fan of the academies, great for the Suns and building their connection with community and local talent pathways.

Yes Dave 10 it looks like the Suns are now on an upward trajectory which does well for their long term future.

Further to this, this Suns crowd was actually its 5th largest home crowd at Carrara and the 2nd largest Suns crowd recorded for a game not scheduled in a Victorian holiday slot. Pies game R18, 2011 the best crowd to date. The fact it was at twilight Sunday reinforces its strength. It ended up being one of those crowds that surprised strongly on the upside.

It’s a good sign their fan base is growing, bringing new fans to the footy. It was a competitive game and I’m sure their fans would’ve gone home enjoying the experience enormously. Their crowds will continue to grow from here.

Two games of WAFL today on the WA Day Public Holiday. The East vs West Perth Derby up at Joondalup Arena had over 4,500. But bigger is the South vs East Freo Derby at Fremantle Oval.

This is how today’s Freo crowd ranks amongst crowds since 2008.

I expect the suns will be getting plenty of sell outs in the next few years particularly if they play the lions, pies, bombers, blues, tigers, hawks and cats who all have a very strong following in south east Queensland.

There round 16 match v Collingwood will definitely sell out especially considering it will be during school holidays. No doubt a huge Collingwood contingent will make the trip up to the gold cost plus plenty of Collingwood fans live in SEQ.

Collingwood whoever they play, wherever they play, will sell out/close to sell out on their current form (the last few years).

King's Birthday MCC looks on track to be sold out by Thursday at the latest with Sunday night not far behind.

Expecting around 2 bays worth of level 4 front seats to go on sale for King's Birthday over the next few days. They did this last year too where the away side is allowed to sell "King's Birthday memberships" where you pay $170 for a level 4 front seat plus 2 GA matches. Naturally, nobody buys them and they put the ~200 seats on sale.
Hence, public tickets saying exhausted for well over a week but no sold-out tweet from AFL House yet.

AFL reserve had the usual nonsense where the unused medallion clubs/dining/platinum privielge seats went on sale today at 4pm for both games.
The very best Level 2A bays that are available to AFL members (P21-P23) for both games went on sale, plus some level 1 Undercover and Level 2 for the Sunday night game. Standing room is up to M26 for Kings Birthday which is the last available standing room I believe.

Based on the level 2A seats I bought for both games, the PAX numbers on both were 87,000+ which is usually a good sign of the crowd.
Can expect 87000+8000 MCC walkups, less whatever unused corporate seats, reserved seat no-shows and reserved seat members who dont show up will end up being the crowd. Those last three are already included in the PAX number.

for me, 88+ on Sunday night and 83-85 on Monday.
