The award for doing what was expected rather than doing way better than even the hard core fans expected.

Fagan took Brisbane from a grand final to a grand final. Mitchell by far and away the most impressive coach this year from where he took his team against expectations

Can't recall a premiership team with a coaching panel like this one. Fagan coaching from the boundary every game. Cam Bruce, experienced and been at a few clubs. The fwds coach never played any great level and used to be the Lions runner. Dale Morris did development coach work at the Dogs and is only in his 2nd year as a line coach. Ben Hudson

went back to being the VFL coach this year but still works with the rucks. Their soft cap spend must be just about the lowest in the league. Says a lot about the system Fagan has set up.

As others have said, this is not the most improved award. Fagan has clearly coached Brisbane brilliantly this year and deserves the accolade.

Fair enough Fages wins it then, he seems like a ripping bloke.

And Clarko + Scott + (seemingly) Mitch seem to have some rough relations around the league for various reasons.

Not sure I’m buying that theory.

When Lions got going Fagan started earning votes for having a side depleted by injuries find a way to win.

When Mitchell got the Hawks going every week the media piled onto the oppo coach and questioned if they should be moved on.

They all copped it for coaching poorly, rather than Mitchell having coached well if you go back and have a look at the media after each of those losses to the Hawks.

I’d say that was the factor at play, rather than popularity.
