AVAILABLE THIS WEEK:

Lachie Schultz

Lachie Schultz is expected to be available for Collingwood’s Round 17 match against Essendon after recovering from illness.

Schultz was unable to train last week due to illness, causing him to miss the Pies’ game against the Gold Coast SUNS.

The 26-year-old was able to train over the weekend and has built up his running loads.

TO BE ASSESSED THIS WEEK:

Brayden Maynard

Brayden Maynard will be assessed this week having sustained a corked quad in his right leg during the final quarter of Saturday’s match against the Gold Coast SUNS.

After being assessed on the bench, Maynard was unable to return to the field.

Since Saturday, Maynard has experienced some soreness and has received treatment with the aim to get up for Friday night’s game.

With a short turnaround between games, Maynard will need to get through full training this week to determine his availability.

Josh Daicos

Josh Daicos will be assessed ahead of Friday night’s match having sustained a corked calf during the third quarter of the game against the Gold Coast SUNS.

The 25-year-old finished the game but wasn’t able to run at full capacity.

He has experienced some soreness and the Club is hoping he can return to training ahead of Friday night’s game.

OTHER UPDATES:

Aiden Begg

Having sustained a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury, Aiden Begg remains on the AFL Inactive List and will sit out for the remainder of the AFL Season.

The 21-year-old is progressing well through his rehab program and is now focusing on building his quad strength and is coming closer to making a return to running.

Josh Carmichael

Josh Carmichael continues to work through the AFL’s concussion protocols.

Carmichael is expected to meet with the Independent Medical Concussion Panel, convened by the AFL, and continues to be supported by the Club and AFL medical teams.

Mason Cox

Mason Cox continues to focus on rehabilitating his knee.

The 33-year-old has started changing direction while running and will look to complete some skills training towards the back end of the week.

Cox is expected to return in two to four weeks’ time.

Jamie Elliott

Jamie Elliott is continuing to progress well through his vascular issue.

The forward has entered his second week of a mini pre-season training block which has seen him return to team skills training. The 31-year-old will look to return to contact training next week.

Elliott is expected to return in two to four weeks.

Beau McCreery

Beau McCreery is set to spend some time on the sidelines after sustaining a soleus calf injury during Saturday’s game against the Gold Coast SUNS.

McCreery sustained the injury during a tackle and tried to run out the game but was unable to. He was subsequently subbed out of the match during the third quarter.

The 23-year-old is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks.

Dan McStay

Dan McStay is tracking well in his return from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

The 28-year-old has been able to complete high-end footy work under no restrictions. He’ll continue to focus on building his load and skills.

McStay will need to complete a block of work during full team training over the next few weeks before he returns to the field.

Tom Mitchell

Tom Mitchell is working his way through his rehab program following surgery to address the plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

The 31-year-old continues to focus on building strength in his foot and is hoping to start straight line running outdoors later this week.

He is expected to return in three to five weeks’ time.

John Noble

John Noble has entered the AFL’s concussion protocols having sustained a knock to the head in a marking contest during Saturday’s game.

The 27-year-old has remained symptom free since the incident and is moving through the protocols. He’ll look to complete some running towards the back end of the week.

The Club is hopeful he can return for the side’s Round 18 game against Geelong next week pending he is out of concussion protocols.

Wil Parker

Wil Parker continues to recover from his knee injury.

The 21-year-old, who sustained a slight meniscus tear to his knee in the Pies’ VFL Round 12 match, has been focusing on his running mechanics and building up strength in his knee.

He is expected to return within three to five weeks.

Jakob Ryan

Jakob Ryan will be sidelined having experienced calf awareness during Collingwood’s Round 14 VFL game over the weekend. Scans have revealed a minor calf strain.

Ryan will now enter a de-load period to recover and is expected to return in two to four weeks.

Oscar Steene

Oscar Steene continues to work through his rehab program for his toe injury.

Steene continues to take positive steps and show progress through his running program and the Club is optimistic he will return to football before the end of the season.

He is expected to return within four to six weeks.

Ryan injured as well. So we got 3 injuries plus 2 are tests from one weekend of football.

Mitchell still 3-5. I have serious doubts he gets back this year.
Jamie and McStay will get back. So will McCreery and Noble.

We will hit the finals like a freight train.

WTF, we have the injury curse. When will some of the other contenders get a few injuries
I know its a petty thing to do but i check the injuries to other teams after most games and crack the shits when Carlton, Essendon, Sydney etc come through unscathed. Carlton especially this year. Some years you're just lucky and some years you cant take a trick

Tbf, I see a lot of Carlton supporters angry that their club brings back players too early from injury..

Yeah but mate they had 10 spuds out against us when Nick broke their hearts. :drunk: :$

Your understanding is wrong.

A google search from before the game in which Freeman injured his hamstring shows no actual results discussing Freeman and a hamstring.

It was the first hamstring of his life. There's absolutely nothing you can do about a situation like that. Maybe it was mishandled in the aftermath - That's impossible for us to know from the sidelines and without medical degrees, but it was impossible to foresee.
As my previous reply to this post has mysteriously disappeared, here is the first part of what I wrote: Google... please.

(Why would you base your research entirely on a digital search?
Do you think all injuries at junior level would be in the cloud?)

Given that I've bothered to 're-reply', it's ironic that I take it at least one mod saw fit to delete my post because I questioned why you cared so much about the issue.

The only aspect of this 'garbage' interaction that I DO care about is having my post disappear.

When you see that Mcreery,Noble and Maynard were all out of the game in the last quarter last Saturday, with Josh Daicos playing with a corked calf,it’s no wonder the Suns ran away from us at the end.Injures probably cost us that game, even though we didn’t really deserve to win it with the way we were playing.
