2024 Ladder Predictions

Yeah, I really should be getting back to work, but...

I have no doubt I'll be wrong about the ladder, to be right I'd have to have a 100 percent tipping record. I'd be lucky to have 50 percent.

Tigers under Yze could definitely surprise... if Lynch, Bolton, Dusty, Prestia, and Taranto play full seasons.
It's Friday ... **** it! :)

I like doing the squiggle but think you have to adjust based on other factors. So for instance in your ladder I can't see GC being that high - even if everything goes right there will be a learning curve for both coach and team. Melbourne seems high with ongoing cultural challenges and the premiers (ugh) are low given their record. Other than that I wouldn't quibble on most of the rest.

On the Tigers, really could be anything this year. To go well Yze will have to turn out a good coach, Lynch will have to play most of the season and a couple of kids will need to come on. I cant see us bottom 4 outside of disaster, and cant see us top 6 outside of a miracle. Middling team if you will.

Reckon the Lions are right in it though.

If Richmond finish 10th-13th, they would have had a good season.

You know corn says that to protect his daddy.
Then when they make the 8 champion Daddy god for turning pickle juice into champagne
I love pickle juice
I'm Ukrainian.
I buy a jar of salted cucumbers every week from the Polish deli at Queen vic markets every week.
My family might be from Central & eastern Ukraine, but those pickles are the best approximation to what my mum & late grandmothers made in Perth
Anyway
Not only do I eat every pickle, but I also drink the juice, ESPECIALLY AFTER A NIGHT ON THE GROG
Highly recommended from a boozer

The problem with the squiggle predictor is you tend to repeat the same starting point bias over a season. So if you rate your team a little better than others than can quickly snowball to an outlier result, and when you look back it seems out of touch with what you actually believe.

Kudos though for going through the process, it's a fair time commitment!
Did you mean to quote me what did you dislike about my ladder?

Brisbane - GF
Port Adelaide - GF
Collingwood
Melbourne
GWS
Sydney
Carlton
Western Bulldogs

Gold Coast
Adelaide
St kilda
Essendon
Geelong
Fremantle
Richmond
Hawthorn
North Melbourne
West Coast

This is going into the finals.

1. Bris
2. Carl
3. Coll
4. GWS
5. Melb
6. Syd
7. Port
8. Adel

9. STK
10. Haw
11. Gee
12. GCS
13. WB
14. Ess
15. Rich
16. Frem
17. NM
18. WCE

Think anyone down 14th could play finals tbh. Tight year.
Surprising to see a Collingwood supporter place the blues so highly. What makes you confident in us finishing top 2? I'm expecting my team to have a down year, fighting to make the 8.

Collingwood (runner up)
Melbourne (premier)
Port Adelaide
St Kilda
GWS
Hawthorn
Western Bulldogs
Carlton

Sydney
Gold Coast
Fremantle
Brisbane
Geelong
North Melbourne
Essendon
Adelaide
Richmond
West Coast

Taking a chance on Hawthorn, showed great promise beating both Grand finalists, last year.
I'd be very surprised if
Adelaide finish bottom 4
We finish above them

1. GWS. Too much class all over the ground and a sustainable game plan that's demonstrably effective against the league's best.
2. Collingwood. Slight drop-off due to ageing Pendles, Howe, Sidebottom. A few games they just won in 2023 will go the other way.
3. Brisbane. Home advantage + incremental improvements by the likes of Ashcroft and Coleman will ensure they remain a force to be reckoned with.
4. Adelaide. Bolters of the 2024 season. AO will be a fortress, their forward line will be among the most exciting in the comp.
5. Sydney. Best collection of kids in the comp get better in 2023. Defence remains biggest liability.
6.
Carlton. Holding steady... or will the comp's most uneven list surprise the doubters and become a true contender?
7. Melbourne. Should be contending with this list, but the playing group has spent the year finding new and exciting ways to fracture.
8. Gold Coast. I've been proven wrong before, but a list this good can't stay out of finals forever.
9. Port Adelaide. Lots of promising youngsters will keep them competitive.
10. St Kilda. The comp's most quintessentially midtier list returns to the status quo.
11. Geelong. The promise of SDK, Holmes et al won't ameliorate Hawkins, Danger, Blicavs, and Tuohy all reaching the end.
12. Western Bulldogs. First coach departure of 2024.
13. North Melbourne. Will enjoy having a single - and demonstrably competent - coach for a whole season. Great midfield core of LDU + Thomas + Wardlaw will build consistency. Heavy reliance on youth and list gaps will prevent climbing higher.
14. Essendon. Even after their busy trade period, they still don't have an elite core of players to progress yet, notwithstanding Merrett and Martin.
15. Fremantle. Would not be that surprised if they finished 5 spots higher, but still losing players at a decent clip, and very reliant on youngsters.
16. Richmond. Yze will need a couple years to get this list back in shape.
17. Hawthorn. Out performed expectations in 2023, thanks in part to excellent coaching. So-so list is still very reliant on Sicily and Breust.
18. West Coast. Will be better than 2023, but there's a long way to go.
^^ This was my Dec 6 prediction

Three months later... I reckon I overestimated Carlton and GC a bit.

1. GWS.
2. Pies
3. Brissie
4. Adelaide
5. Sydney
6. Melbourne
7. Port Adelaide
8. Carlton
9. St Kilda
10. GC
11. Geelong
12. WB
13. North
14. Essendon
15. Freo
16. Richmond
17. Hawthorn
18. WC
