I think the adelaide musing about moving up for Smith isnt because they want him and think we will take him. They could want draper, and think we want him too. So they make it known they want to move up for smith rather than draper, as if we really want draper, we can outbid them for pick 2. 3+38 in this draft is more exciting than 4 and a future second next year. Maybe we really do want Smith and pull the trigger on that trade instead of adelaide, and draper falls to them either way.
38 is insurance for Ben Campo

How about since say 2014? (Last 10 years)
I’m sure there are mids who have taken time but they do seem to be impacting much more quickly.
In recent times I would say Callum Ah Chee, Ed Richards and Hayden Young are examples of players that have taken a bedding down period of maybe 2 or 3 years before they began to show what potential that they had

Could be that they’re worried about Richmond trading up for 2 in order to select Jagga

Neither Richmond nor us are moving up to 2.

If we were playing funny buggers and fake leaking, and wanting Crows to jump us, it would be to so we could get FOS (who there is still a chance of North taking).

Or, if it’s a more legitimate concern for Adelaide, it might be that they want Smith, and if North keep 2 they take Foss instead of Tauru, and then we’d take Smith as our second choice. If everyone thinks we’re legitimately taking Draper, there’s no reason for the Crows to trade up. They would still get Smith at 4.

If the selection was purely on needs Draper looks the one.

Question is for Pick 3 do we go purely needs or simply the best player?

Love to be a fly on the wall for the discussions between Austin, Voss and the recruiting team and hear their true thoughts
At pick 3 I want the best player available, if it’s Sid I’ll be very happy! I just don’t want us to pick a player because he is fast

Assuming we have done due diligence on his injury - Austin just have to lock in Draper for the betterment of team balance.

We've been crying out for some more speed in the midfield -and Draper is a great answer.
Austin lock Draper in for #3 and let's get on with the rest of the draft then - Bring on 2025!

One could argue that for team balance (which I’m pretty doubtful you use as the rationale when using the number 3 pick) we’ d want a player who can play in a 2nd position.

Yep, I reckon the Cows have about as much idea as any of us who we're looking to pick.

They obviously have a target and are looking to trade up with the assurance we don't take him. A bit like Dodoro last year.

Rest assured, Draper is "not just fast".

He is All Australian his last 3 years. Has starred at every level, including Senior SANFL. He is a great attacking, and defensive player. Averaged 6 tackles a game at SANFL level.

He is a gun player and leader, who is fast.

I agree with that. But i think Elijah is that pinch hitting mid for us. Sid would allow Walsh to be utilised a bit better/smarter imo. Give him some chopout on the ball.

Would love Draper if he was to be selected with our pick 3, I just feel out of all 5 candidates I’m not sure if he is the best available?

But I trust Agresta and Austin

Interested to hear some opinions of the footage of Jagga, FOS, and Langford’s VFL games?

There’s a very repetitive trend of criticism to FOS based on video packages, so for those of you that aren’t impressed by the videos you’ve watched check out the VFL one as to me he looked easily the most exciting of the kids that played for tigers in the magoos.

I’m still not convinced that North will trade pick 2 and if they keep it that they will pick Tauru.

If LDU leaves and in couple years I think Mckercher will be one of prime targets for the Tassie team so I can see the Kangas picking FOS or Draper with pick 2 and using their future first to buy back into the first round to get the KPD that they need

Our midfield post revamp and heading into the future will be a serious force to be reckoned with if they all stay healthy. I love Crippa, Hewett and Kennedy but the next iteration looks far more balanced and suited for the modern game with better runners across the board. Every player in that mix is a strong runner and capable defensively inside and outside the contest.

How our wings develop will be a big factor too however, they'll need to provide more from a ball use perspective than Ollie and Acres currently do as they should be required to do less defensively. Whether Binns or Ollie are the answer to that is another question. I'd love to see Billy Wilson and Cowan trialled there this pre season as more offensively minded options.

Pittonet
Cripps
Walsh
Hewett
Cerra
Kennedy

TDK
Walker (Cripps Replacement)
Walsh
Lord/Ben Campo (Hewett Replacement)
Cerra
Draper/FOS/Smith (Kennedy Replacement)

Obviously will have others rotating through there too and Cripps could play on another 3-4 years for all we know but as a basis I love the look of that mix.

I admit I have no real idea about the draftees, but the knocks on Draper concern me the most of the 5 possibilities. But, we won’t know for years who the right choice would be.

Hoping Agresta nails the pick.

Yeh that’s fair I was more talking about just contributing.
Young was injured his first two years and then broke out in his third. He was always playing when not injured.
Richard’s played over 40 games in his first two seasons.
They were contributing from the very start. Richard’s no doubt has exploded later though.

Ah Chee no doubt has become a decent player but I’d be gutted if we only get that level of a player from our pick.

I look at the draft from two years ago and I think only 3 players from the top 10 haven’t played 30 games. Wardlaw I ignore because he has been injured and Tsatas and Clark. I’d be very worried if we draft a player performing like them after two years.

Does anyone have the history of Agresta on who he picked when he was at the swans?

I still think there’s a decent chance the Tigers trade for 2. What makes you so sure they won’t?

We are not reaching like North may be for Taurus with #2 or even #6

I think in this case, I would like to follow the KISS principle as Draper is both a need for CFC & the best player for CFC at #3 - simples ;)

It’s interesting that Adelaide would even consider moving up to 2 for Jagga (although that could all be media bullshit) if everyone thinks we’re taking Draper.

Because they don’t want Jagga, they want the local boy

And going on what SOAP is saying they are pretty sure we want Draper
