Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks (ACL) will remain on the PUP/NFI list.
This means Brooks, the 46th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, will miss at least the first four weeks of the regular season. ESPN’s David Newton said the team is “bringing Brooks along slowly, feeling good about Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders but believing Brooks is the future.” Brooks tore his ACL last November. For now, Hubbard is expected to be Carolina’s lead back, with Sanders chipping in here and there. After a ramp-up period when he is activated from the PUP list, Brooks should have every chance to serve as the team’s RB1. Carolina coaches have talked up Brooks’ pass-catching prowess, suggesting an eventual three-down role for the rookie.

ESPN’s Rob Demovsky expects Packers RB MarShawn Lloyd to start season on injured reserve.
Lloyd suffered a hamstring injury during the Packers’ first preseason game against the Broncos. He has since been out and it’s been speculated that he would start on injured reserve to return after Week 4. ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky’s 53-man roster prediction has Lloyd starting the season on IR after missing a large chunk of training camp with a hip issue and much of the preseason with a hamstring issue. AJ Dillon is once again the primary backup in Green Bay with Josh Jacobs leading the way. The Packers could still add a back after teams cut their rosters down if Lloyd is indeed placed on IR.

Patriots placed DT Christian Barmore on the reserve/non-football injury list.
Safety Marte Mapu was placed on injured reserve. Both players have return designations meaning they could take the field later this season. Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots this offseason. There was no timetable for his return when the issue was announced at the start of camp, but the return designation bodes well for his recovery.

Jacobs says he declined to sign with the Chiefs, along with the Broncos, Bears, Cardinals, Dolphins, Giants and Texans. Jacobs’ statement perhaps most profoundly applies to the Chiefs’ starter Isiah Pacheco. The Chiefs’ front office allowed Jerick McKinnon to walk this offseason, publicly praising Pacheco’s three-down and scoring-position potential while adding only UDFA Carson Steele to the mix through the preseason’s conclusion. The Chiefs then signed pass-catching specialist Samaje Perine on Wednesday, in what was thought to be a likely depth-related move. The Chiefs’ prior pursuit of Jacobs, a capable three-down player, casts a slightly different light on Perine’s signing though; the front office may be less comfortable with increasing Pacheco’s receiving usage than it appeared for much of the summer. While Pacheco should still be viewed as a locked-in fantasy football RB1, his range of outcomes is now slightly wider than it was a week ago.

Ravens signed QB Tyler Huntley, formerly of the Browns.
Huntley spent his first four years in the NFL with the Ravens before briefly signing on with the division rival Browns this offseason. He was released on Thursday, allowing the Ravens to sign him on Friday. He’s started nine games through four seasons, earning a 79.0 passer rating along the way

Seahawks signed LB Tyus Bowser, formerly of the Ravens.
Bowser worked out for the Titans, Colts, and Cowboys before eventually joining the Seahawks. From a scheme standpoint, the Seahawks always felt like the obvious landing spot for Bowser once he started taking his visits. He spent two seasons in Baltimore with current Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald and should have no trouble getting acclimated to the defense in Seattle. Bowser will start on the practice squad but could be elevated anytime.
