How would you rank the available jobs? For me..

Tier 1 in order:
1. Chicago (if Eberflus isn't retained..picks and cap space, could build a side in your vision pretty fast)
2. Chargers (Herbert the draw obviously)
3. Washington (picks and cap space galore, still some nice pieces on the roster)

Tier 2.
Vegas (if Pierce isn't retained) , Atlanta

Tier 3.
Tennessee

Tier 4.
New England (if Belichick isn't retained)

Tier 99.
Carolina.

The Denver Gazette’s Chris Tomasson reports that the Broncos could keep Russell Wilson for the 2024 season.
Tomasson asked Sean Payton if there was a scenario where Wilson could be with the Broncos next season and he said “yes.” Once Wilson was benched for the final two weeks of the regular season it seemed like a forgone conclusion that he’d be out the door in 2024. It could be coach speak or it could be legit, but perhaps if Wilson and the Broncos could agree on new terms to his contract there is a chance he stays. It’s anyone’s guess at this point and Wilson has taken it in stride, we’ll see what happens next.

Patriots reporter Andrew Callahan reports Josh McDaniels could reunite with Patriots if HC Bill Belichick is retained.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft had an “initial meeting” with head coach Bill Belichick Monday, after which it was noted that former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels could return to the team should Belichick stay. Callahan goes on to note that McDaniels could serve as assistant head coach for the Patriots in that scenario. There is still a lot to work out and still a lot of time to do so, but it’s interesting to hear two reports within 24 hours regarding present and former New England coaches interested in a return to the team after Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said he would be interested in returning to New England as the head coach if Belichick left this offseason.

I likely rank them

Tier 1
Chicago (if fields is gone otherwise its tier 3 job)

Tier 2
Chargers (if not for cap situation they would be tier 1 with Herbert the draw)
Atlanta (just need a QB alot of weapons on O)

Tier 3
Washington (plenty of cap space but alot of holes)
Titans (if you can rebuild that Oline will have solid offense)

Tier 4
Raiders (need to sort QB otherwise alot higher plus pick out of range of an easy trade up for qb)

Tier 5
Patriots (total rebuild incoming also follow Bill will be hard going with comparisons)

Tier 10
Panthers (only a brave or stupid man is taking this job)

Falcons a bit overrated imo. Lots of flashy young pieces on offense that would be fun to work with for sure but they are badly missing some big pieces on D. Drafting at 8 leaves them a bit in no mans land re: a QB. Id much rather be Washington picking at 2 with McLaurin, Allen and Payne on the roster and the cap space they have. They have 2 second and 2 third round picks this year also.

Washington needs a qb, atleast 2 pass rushing ends, a heap of Oline maybe 4 new starters, atleast 2 Linebackers, Corner since fuller is likely gone, 3rd down rb, Tight end, another wideout with samuels a free agent. And that just off the top of my head.

Yeah and QB is the hardest piece to get, something the Falcons wont find easy. Falcons entire defense is basically mid or replaceable apart from Bates as a cornerstone with Terrell and maybe Jarrett coming off a season ending injury. They have zero pass rushers, might be the worst edge rushing room in the league at one of the most important positions. I can see them taking an edge rusher at 8 and having to settle for Russell Wilson or Justin Fields. Should be good enough to have them meandering as a wild card team and nothing better. Stuck in purgatory for the foreseeable future.

It really depends on what your priorities are as a coach.

If you want an established QB first and foremost, the Chargers are at the top of the list. However, the Spanos family has a penchant to not spend the necessary $ on the margins, which is why they're firmly the little brother in LA. Then there's also the salary cap situation of the Chargers, which is dire. They're 34M over the cap with just 37 players under contract. Ekeler is a free agent and they have serious cap numbers on all of Bosa, Mack, Allen and James. Herbert's cap number next year is under 20M but rises to over 37M in 2025. TLDR - they're on the cliff and will fall completely off it without a multiple solid draft classes.

If you want to take a team on a rebuild, Atlanta makes the most sense. Arthur Blank is a very patient man and there's some pretty good young offensive pieces on that roster. One could make a similar argument with Washington, though there's not as many good pieces on the roster, and Josh Harris is an unknown as an owner.

If you're looking to catch lightning in a bottle and win now, one could see the Raiders at that team in this class. Finished 5-4 over the final 9 games with a rookie 4th round QB and statistically had the least amount of points scored on them in that time on defence. Top end talent is well established on both sides of the ball. An incoming coach could try to persuade DC Patrick Graham and his staff to stay on that side of the ball (particularly as they have just 2 starters on D who are free agents), and then be aggressive to get a QB. With over 50M in cap space there's enough room for growth there as well.

As for Tennessee, New England and Carolina, I just don't see what would entice a coach to pick those above the aforementioned teams. Robert Kraft loves Josh McDaniels and will likely want him involved on the next coach's staff - that's enough to keep any respected person away. Carolina has Tepper and no high draft picks this year (nuff said). Tennessee are a middling team with questionable ownership, though their location and impending new stadium could at least be somewhat of a drawcard.

Mayo has been a hot candidate for a couple of seasons now, turned down some interviews, preferring to stay in his role with NE. I assumed he'd be the one taking over if Bill left, but Vrabel being available for free and not trade could change that.

I feel like Chicago will give Harbaugh a call and see if he is interested in the job before making any move.

Chargers is a good job. but they have cap issues and will make roster moves and wont be doing any big deals in FA.

Saw something on ESPN yesterday about the Saints thinking about giving Jon Gruden a job.

Agree with the tiering with the exception of the Chargers. You have a meddling owner in Spanos, cap hell and a city that doesn't care about you.

LA doesn't strike me as a city that would be patient for a blow it up rebuild. Even if they did by the time the Chargers were relevant they'd have fired a couple more coaches and the LA supporter base would have been lost.

Herbert is attractive but could end up with a career similar to Rivers.

LA isnt a football city. even when the Rams won the Superbowl they didnt get much of a boost.

Barely rank in the Top 10 for fan support in LA. Rams home games are often dominated by away team crowds.

The one team that could have made a fist of LA that won't be moving anyway is the 49ers.

Edit: Come to think of it, would be have been a master stroke for the NFL....have the 49ers play all away games in LA.

Your top 5 teams could make LA. but they wouldnt really grow much. and risk alienating the old fans like.

But those teams are healthy enough to never need to move to a place like LA to get big.

All depends on what the Harris group is like of course, but if they're willing to pony up and give someone a realistic timeline with the proper support it has huge potential career wise.

A sleeping, frustrated giant that is itching to get behind anything positive.

Or they could have gone the route of scheduling the 17th game as a marque "neutral" matchup in LA every week.

Was hoping a trade for Vrabel but not be. Happy with the decision. Vrabel wanted more power which thankfully didn’t get. His inability to hire good assistants and hire his yes men was costly.

He reminded me of Nathan Buckley. Too stubborn to change his ways and a control freak.

With ample cap space it is time for Ran to step up.

Im sure LA would love a Jags Vs Washington game, or Jets Vs Bears.

Other than 9ers, Packers, Steelers, Dallas and a couple of others they would struggle to sell out. and most of that would be from traveling fans of those teams.

I dont hate the idea of the 9th "home" game being a neutral game. but share it between non NFL markets like Oregon, San Antonio, Oklahoma, Alabama, Kentucky and have a game at the Rose Bowl. Also international [Europe, Canada, Mexico]

My one worry with Vrabel is there is a chance he will want to bring Arthur Smith with him as OC at his new team. Since he filled that role for 2 years with him with Titans.
I would have him back in Nashville as an OC or senior Offensive Assistant. Especially if Jim Schwartz name comes up in HC conversations.

He wasn't a terrible OC with the Titans, was a "get the ball in the hands of your best players (Henry & AJ Brown)" OC , unlike in Atlanta, maybe he needs some strong no nonsense HC like Vrabel to hold his hand and tell him not to be too clever for your own good dickhead.
