First great hire of this off season
I wouldnt say that. He's been talked up as impressive for a couple of years now, the Pats played keep away with him last offseason putting something extra in his contract so he rejected other teams HC interviews, his side of the ball performed very well with a shitty offense. All signs point to there being something there.
Mayo might have his own ideas, be his own man. Im not going rush to judgement yet. Flores was a good play caller in Miami with a different scheme (heavy blitz) on the defensive side of the ball . Just handled the QB position badly, thats what cost him his job. Been very good in Minnesota also. There was a great article a few weeks ago about how Belichick is not scheme specific and how he (not his DC) primarily game plans his defence around the opponents strengths. This lack of scheme specificity makes it more difficult for an assistant/co ordinator to take to another team.
Also had a great example of how in 2019 Pats ran more man coverage than most other teams. But leading into the SB against the Rams who feasted on man coverage Belichick spent two weeks hammering the defence with zone coverages and they ended up stopping the Rams.
Point was it was Belichick who still game plans the defence and not easy for his coordinators when they go off to do their own jobs.
Plus other thing in sports it’s so hard to take over from a legendary long term coach.
Aaron Donald over Madubuike is a terrible decision but expected.
Good to see Quincy Williams make the 1st team, well deserved.
Hamilton has had a very good year but putting him ahead of Bates in the first team seems stupid.
Prescott over Purdy in the second team? Hmmmmm
Read Bill had it in his contract that if he moved out of the role Mayo was the hire. Not sure if any truth to that though. The Mayo hire is just about the quickest hire possible. And i guess it also passes the rooney rule.
It feels like the last 12 months set up the succession plan. But still feels strange to fill the spot in under 24hrs. I guess no point wasting time if they already know who they are getting.Read Bill had it in his contract that if he moved out of the role Mayo was the hire. Not sure if any truth to that though.
Not really because it stipulates two minority candidates from outside the organization. The Mayo hire is just about the quickest hire possible. And i guess it also passes the rooney rule.
The rule has become a joke anyway. It now makes it harder for a black coach because teams see a bunch of failed interviews that were just held for the Rooney rule and think they are not good so dont take the interview serious. Not really because it stipulates two minority candidates from outside the organization.
It's not great, but I guess if you're FORCING every franchise to interview at least two other minority candidates....it a) gives them a resume to take forward into the future, and b) gives them a chance to wow the interviewing franchise, just in case. The rule has become a joke anyway. It now makes it harder for a black coach because teams see a bunch of failed interviews that were just held for the Rooney rule and think they are not good so dont take the interview serious.
What does it mean for us, the viewers? The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand dropped a Friday afternoon stunner with a report that the Disney-owned ESPN and NFL are in “advanced talks” on a deal that would give the league an equity stake in ESPN.ESPN, NFL equity deal would give ESPN control over NFL Media, including NFL Network
Disney-owned ESPN and NFL are in "advanced talks" on a deal that would give the league an equity stake in ESPN.awfulannouncing.com
Per Marchand, ESPN would take control of NFL Media, including NFL Network. In return, the league would receive an equity stake in ESPN.
Marchand added that discussions are far enough along both the owners and the Players Association are being briefed on the details. The current Collective Bargaining Agreement requires that both owners and players agree on such an arrangement that would impact shared revenues. The NY Post reporter added that the deal “could take months” to be finalized.
Meanwhile, the NFL has been looking for a way to get out of the NFL Network business for some time but has been unable to find any takers. This deal would allow them to let ESPN run the show on not just the network but also NFL.com, Red Zone, NFL Films, and NFL+.
Sounds like NFLN/Redzone could be folded into ESPN and NFLN will gain a wider distribution. What does it mean for us, the viewers?

Would DAZN think they got shafted by the NFL?doubt it. depends if ESPN take full control or NFL keep control over NFLNetwork and stuff. And even then it would take a few years before they make changed, It might have gamepass on more platforms like rolling it into a paid add on for Disney+
Who cares. they might might want out. $100M a year is a lot of money they are paying and might not be making that back on subs.Would DAZN think they got shafted by the NFL?
