what drives me nuts most about higgins is when i watch toby greene and others like dusty, how is it you can just mark down a goal from almost anywhere when toby is lining up & higgins just misses sodas all the damn time

if he could just get that part of his game right,i dont expect him to be as good as those 2 in other facets of the game, take your damn chances & i hate to say it but i suspect this is part of the problem-CARE A BIT MORE JACK!

Here's my stab at the likely 23 going by the pre season we've had so far:

B: Wilkie, Howard, Webster
HB: Sinclair, Battle, NWM
C: Henry, Steele, Wood
HF: Hill, Membrey, Owens
F: Higgins, King, Sharman

Foll: Marshall, Crouch, Jones
Int: Clark, Ross, Phillipou, Windhager
Sub: Wilson

Emg: Stocker, Collard, Dow

Doubt Butler will be ready so I wouldn't be surprised if Collard gets a game if he can perform in the practice matches.

100% on King though. We mark him harshly because we are impatient. He's got the tools to be the best KPF in the league. At 23 he's just scratching the surface.
I feel this is correct. We not only mark him harshly because we are impatient, we do so because we've done and seen this all before. We have great expectations of our Full forward!
St Kilda supporters have seen the best ever Full Forward in Tony Locket, develop and play for our team. We've seen other St Kilda full forwards kick 100 goals and/or win the Coleman in Fraser Gehrig, Stuart Lowe, George Young and Jason Heatley. Even back to our Premiership team, we had Cowboy Neales' exploits over the season, and then with a lazy 6 in the GF. We've been spoilt with an abundance of such class. We just might just have another here with King too!

It helps but not the difference these days. Richmond probably the best side in the last 10 years and they preferred fast to accurate.
This!

Game is about deep entries. Mark it or bring it to ground. Lock it in and work on repeat 50s.

Balance of play tips your way due to weight of numbers. Pies just won a flag like this.

I reckon Stocker is ahead of JWeb right now going off training reports. Everything else I agree with though

King had a s.hit final and still managed to kick 3.
With a busted shoulder, with no preseason, in a team where the mids were badly mauled.
Cut him some slack.

We probably get a bit frustrated with aspects of Max's game, but if he can have an injury-free run, he will only get better. Dumb move putting Caminiti into that final it upset the whole forward half balance.

People are worried about King because he is the locus of our hopes and dreams, a 23 year old unicorn forward, born and bred Sainter, with arguably the most untouched potential out of any player in his position, with the team being built around him to contend for the next decade.

If he doesn’t deliver, who will? Etc etc, the beauty of it all is the load is starting to be shared, Phillipou, Owens, Windy, Nasiah, Wilson etc, now we have the promise of a team, not just a gun forward. But until they’re made and not just potential, everyone’s gonna keep the focus on king, just the cost of being a young star. He’ll be right, we’ll be right, we’ve got some fun times coming up.

I hope you're right. I prefer Stocker in the team given their respective ages but I think Webster is a Lyon favourite, while he seems to have question marks on Stocker.

I think King is a ripper, but even if he's injured we can make do without him. Hammer and Sharman are not terrible forwards.

If Caminiti and/or Sharman can take another step up that would also be huge for King.

A couple of years ago playing against the saints was easy, you just double team Max. But teams can't afford to do that if Caminiti, Sharman and Owens are popping up for 7 or 8 goals a game between them.

I don't think we want to see King become an 80+ goal a year key forward, if he does it probably means we're using him too much, would much rather him be a more efficient 50-60 goal a year player who uses his tank to push up the ground like Prime Riewoldt.

Max is our future. He just needs some durability with his body so he can get some consistency in his game.

What will change is the setup around him.

Sharman and Membrey are two strong running talls that can draw attention away from Max. I think we can only play one of Higgins or Collard due to poor F50 pressure ratings.

Butler or Garcia as a hard running, tackling goal sneak.

Wasn't Collard supposed to provide good tackle pressure according to his draft profile?

He certainly has the speed to do it like Butler

I’m not sure to be honest, but I was really thinking about his level of impact for season 24.

I just think he’s going to be more Jack Lonie than Jack Steele when it comes to tackling this year.

I would be more than happy to find out he’s got a bit of the old scud missile in him.

I think if Max is getting 80+ goals a season, we'll be doing ok. No reason the other guys can't score too so to me it would hopefully mean we're putting a good score on the board.

I want Max clunking marks and kicking goals.

You could see glimpses of this possibility last season. Both of them played exciting patches of football, Caminitis' dash, marking and tackling, Sharmans speckies, sweet kicks for goal, forward pressure. 3 tall/medium forwards, all with their unique assets will be a thing of beauty to watch! If one doesn't get you, the others will!

Especially if 20 of them are coming in finals!

One of the things I remember was that he could be overzealous and ill-disciplined at times. A couple of the run-down tackles in his highlights were good signs.

You're probably right though at 67kg he's not likely to make that many stick, mind you some of the little guys can.
