As per the discussion , he will not "play the kids at all costs".

Why do you think we won't make finals? Who is going past us? Why?
Yeah I agree Ross won’t play the kids at all cost despite the club and afl media putting the perception out there.

Just think we overachieved last season due to an incredibly easy draw especially early which is where most of our better wins came from and the 150 game, and then results from other club around us on the ladder fell out at the back end of the season just to fall into the 8 and then GWS were a fair cut above.

I think Gold Coast Freo and Adelaide but you could throw Geelong Richmond and Essendon are going to be harder to beat this year.

Maybe Wilson. The others if there are injuries but I think they are all behind other players. My point is not that they won't play, it is that RTB wont give them free games just to get development into them, at least not until late in the season
I tend to agree but most coaches run the season in 4 phases the first being the first 6 weeks, the top 4 teams are generally known in this phase and also how the rest of the comp have set up over the pre season so if we aren’t going so well by the 6 week mark I think that’s when we might get a glimpse of the new Ross “the developer”.

Not before

I'd be surprised if he wasn't.

Even with him being underdone, his return at the end of the season straightened up the forward line a lot.

Do Caminiti, Sharman and Membery all play? Guessing probably not. I really don't see Caminiti or Sharman going back. Membrey probably starts the season, he is a proven performer.

Geelong has the home ground advantage , but apart from that why do you think they'll be harder?
Technically we should run rings around them.

We were on top of the ladder last year, but that was just the start, and we went on to have some pretty mediocre games after that.

You do realise in the first 7 rounds last year we played 5 finalists from either the previous season or the 2023 season. With the biggest injury list in the AFL.

Not sure about the incredibly easy early draw.

Sharman was quite effective as a medium sized defender.

Despite what the Far North Queenslander would tell you however, he is a very good forward. Ideally, that’s where he plays.

Otherwise, spot on.

A harder draw hopefully negated by a fitter list, improved understanding of the game plan and better personnel.

As the youngest side in the finals, hopefully improved player availability and the second year under RTB, there's a pretty strong case that we'll be much harder to beat this year.

I wouldn't have thought so - not with King also in the side and Owens training as a forward.

With Caminiti having a delayed start to his preseason, you'd expect him to be last in that pecking order to start the season. But I dont think some time in the VFL to work on some things will hurt his development either.

I’m probably alone on this but I’m far more interested in finding our Butters-Rozee-JHF than I am in playing finals. We’ve played finals before but until we find our future A grade midfield we won’t be winning a premiership which is ultimately what it’s all about.
Wilson has a lot of those guys about him quickly, these are my over the top superstar comps

Owens - Degoey/Fyfe
Pou - Bont
Nas - Silk Burgoouyne
Sinclair - Jack Sinclair
King - Tom Lynch/Roo
Wilson - Butters/Whitfield
Collard - Charlie Cameron
Garcia - jack Crisp
Hotton - Shuey
Keeler - Paddy

Looking at our draw and the first 7 games, interested to hear what people would take as a pass mark re wins/losses.

Personally, if we were offered 4-3 I'd take that and run. Cats Power GWS and Pies all away (yes yes i know its our home game against them but they'd prefer to play us at the G) plus the other etihad home teams (dogs and dons) as our two etihad games is a very challenging start. Even the gather round match kinda screws us as we would have been playing richmond at home where we have a great record against them. The only saving grace is that it's sometimes more advantages to play the top teams early as they often take a while to get going compared to some lower teams that have had huge pre-seasons (a bit like us last year).

The draw really opens up for us at the back on the year, if we can pull off a few upsets early we should be in good shape.

King, Membrey, Owens, Sharman, Caminiti - Can really only have three on here. Any more and the forward line plays too tall.

Remember we also need a ruck relief for Marshall.

So I think you play King, Membrey, Owens.

Sharman,Caminiti if any of those three are on restricted minutes and add one of these (based on form or role required) to the bench rotations.

OR if we include a specific role on the oppositions intercept defender, you might stretch to include one of Sharman or Caminiti.

I cannot see them both in the side if all are fit.

Cats : We should win , no upset. The only thing against us is fortress GMHBA , so its a psychological test.
Collingwood : we showed well against them early last year. A tall ask but not impossible.
Essendon : We beat them last year and finished well above them. I hope Jade Gresham doesn't make that much difference. WIN
Richmond : We lost to them last year at the G, but we did better round 22. They finished 13, and playing at bloody Norwood. WIN.
GWS : Its always hard to figure how they'll play. They smacked us in the final last year, so you can bet RTB is working on a strategy.
Bulldogs: Very beatable. Win.
Port at home: Grrr our bogey fixture. One day we need to beat them.

I'd be disappointed if we didn't win 3. 4 or 5 possible. 6 or 7 unlikely.

I don't see it as an "upset" to beat teams that finished below us on the ladder last year.

How has Roma been going this pre season?
One word comes to mind.....awesome !!!!!!!

Aside from a minor foot issue prior to Xmas.....he's been in great nick.

That pesky Covid did get him a few weeks back.

Training extremely well.

Obviously,he is one player that we just cannot afford to lose during the season.

Owens is a ground level pressure beast. So if we call him a medium forward that's fine with me.
( Membrey around the same height, but he's nothing like Owens as a midfielder - he plays like a tall ).
So we could probably get by with Membrey, King, Owens and one of Sharman and Caminiti.

Cordy played fwd/ruck last year but was no better in the ruck than Caminiti, and scored a lot less.
Its hard to tell from Sharman's stats, since he played in the backline sometimes, but he seems to score more than Caminiti as a forward.

How has Campbell been tracking.... not that we'll need him, but i'd be nervous as hell if he was injured.
