I got roasted and mocked in this thread when I said our injuries were starting to mount when Dow suffered his injury. I hope people understand what I meant now.

Undefeated preseason.
Time to close this thread George , earn your wages.
When money is no longer an obstacle in your life, Sunny, you tend to do things you just enjoy doing. I've been offered millions for the position I'm in now, yet my humble nature should be a lesson to you all. I am simply here in good faith, helping out the loveable larrikins of our forum out of the sheer goodness of my heart 🥰

You meant we’d suffer another 3-4 injuries after the fact?
I meant that names were starting to be added to the injury list ominously fast, and now its blown out to double digits. We couldn't expect Dow to be the last name to go down before our opening game with 4+ weeks left of training and 2 praccies

Early retirement is fun.

Ari has had an awkward pathway to his first AFL audition today hasn’t he?

Suspended for 10 weeks in his draft year, then forcing his way late into the state team. Tipped to go in the first round of the draft, before sliding to the third last pick. Told to train away from the main group to get his running and fitness up to par. Sent for extra sessions with the VFL side (allegedly).

Then almost best on ground in his inaugural VFL match and earning a call up to the last game before the season proper starts.

If he plays well enough today to even make the emergency bench it will have been an extraordinary achievement for the young lad.

But I can’t help but think that it will be an even bigger achievement for the club. To identify the talent and potential and then identify the need to map out a special training program to give him the best chance at an early debut.

It really does make me feel that our internal development is back where we need it to be. And long may that continue.
Top post.

Concluding Pre-season Thoughts:

Injuries - Not good, but we found a way last year with arguably a way worse injury list in terms of coverage. If it means players Pou and Chito get a lot of mid time I think we'll be ok, Ronnie looking handy too (I'm assuming Battle is ok, haven't heard about him).

Recruiting (Draft & Trade) - Looks like we've done very well here again. Henry looks a steal, Wilson and Garcia to play a bunch of games this year, Bonner a good moneyball type pickup.

Players to (edit: Have An Excellent Year) - Odd picks, but Steele and Sharman. Steele's two way running; and spread looked really good to my eyes, after slimming down slightly looks like he can cover more ground. Reckon he will get an absolute heap of touches. Sharman is interesting for me because I think oppo teams will have a plan for the King/Membrey combo (probably with mixed results re: King) but I think a lot will be unprepared for Sharman as a mobile third tall. Hoping for a prime Gunston (type) season for him.

Owens will be an absolute star. Needs to improve disposal by foot a fair way but that doesn't seem to hamper being a Brownlow winning mid (see: Dangerfield, P).

Agree but the club needs to drop this idea of using him as a back ruckman. He is horrible at it and some clubs are going to kick a bag of goals very quickly against us when Marshall is resting if Owens is rucking.

At some point we're surely going to have to look at putting King in as second ruck. He's a man mountain. Rucking Owens is ludicrous against the big guys.

Unfortunately the only alternatives open to us at the moment are do it with Max instead or play Caminiti (at the expense of Sharman). There are no easy choices here.
