WHO: Carlton vs *
WHEN: Sunday 9th June 7:20pm
WHERE: MCG
Formline (last 5 games): CARL: L-W-L-W-W ESS: W-W-W-W-L

Last time we played: Round 13, 2023, * def Carlton 13.8.86 to 6.16.52 by 34 points. In perhaps our most disappointing game of the year, an inaccurate Carlton was handily beaten by *. In a seven goal barrage during the 3rd quarter, two meter Peter and Merrett feasted as they put on a dominant performance. However, the loss was the catalyst of a massive winning streak that catapulted Carlton from bottom four to preliminary finalists.

The usual suspects: They say you're only good as your last game, so if you put Cripps' final quarter against Port in isolation, expect him to have his best game of all time! He was well held last year, but his current year is certainly tracking as one of his best. Faster out of the blocks and a better kick, when you see our captain outrun players like JHF from the stoppage, you know he's tracking to something special. His wingman, Walsh, will of course be consistent as ever and will need to have a good game to compliment Cripps for us to win but he really, really needs to do this:

Please, just do this... don't worry, they'll come back up!
Merrett is going to be *'s most important player, so who better than Cincotta (or Chingotta as opposition supporters call him) to keep him in check? He did a wonderful Cartman-like job on Butters, so expect him to prove the case of Merrett being this year's captain of the AA side having no merit (there's a better captain on the ground). Particularly given he didn't stand up vs the Sunny Boys in the final quarter!

Weitering will have to load the Wright stopping protocols and cut his influence down as if he's playing one meter tall, thankfully the job will be easier for him with Langford being in doubt. Having Saad and McGovern playing more than a couple of games together consecutively is something of a blessing considering Martin and Hind are going to be everywhere, because if we can't curtail their run then we will need to make some run of our own from D50.

Keep Williams up forward! Do not get dragged into the temptation of wanting "more run" further down the ground, as he's kicked 7 goals in the past two games. Finally, someone to crumb from Curnow who is ready to explode after kicking 4.4 against Port, expecting big things from Charlie! Of course, the most obvious match-up of the game is the most perplexing... and perhaps confusing:

Expect McKay to break the km covered in a game for this one, as he will have to also change his outfit every time he moves up the ground. If by some reason you see two of them on the same ground, that just might be a subtle warning sign that either you've got cataracts or the universe is going to implode and disappear into a paradoxical nothingness that would Ross Lyon teary-eyed proud.

As far as the ins and outs go, it is very likely the team will remain unchanged with the small possibility of Motlop and Pittonet coming in. Though would rather a 1-man ruck setup due to *'s speed.

Final verdict: These games don't usually favour the favourites, but fudge it, let's demolish these drug cheats and grind them into dust! We owe them! They are sitting 2nd right now, but their formline says they don't deserve it. The fundamental principles of the universe say they do not deserve it! If we really want to stamp our authoritah, we need a big win here. The ladder is tight from 2nd-8th, so percentage will actually be important (don't we all know that from '22, ughh). Expecting a tight contest before pulling away, as they cannot really stop our talls short of a black hole forming because of the McKay paradox. We must not take them lightly as they can still be a dangerous side, if we keep the pressure up, lower our eyes (looking at you Walshy) and not get too complacent, we will see something like this:

Isn't it beautiful?
Come on Blues! Let's smash these pretenders whose club still smells of rubbing alcohol and various chemicals that have no name because they don't know what they took. Win this and Carlton will be 2nd on the ladder, if Geelong lose against Sydney up at the SCG!

We need to see more of this...

... and more of this!

After a tight tussle in the first half, Carlton to be too strong and win by 42!

Out: Fantasia - but because he'll be playing another one of his old sides.

Guess Caroll might get a full game in the VFL this week as he needs a full run so could be sub again or could be an out, but I'd love to see a debutant like a Moir or Lord.

IN: Motlop
OUT: Fantasia

Williams - permanent forward
Cincotta - mid (non tagging)
Carroll & Hewett - want to drop but we have no suitable replacements

Motlop needs to show something in the reserves before he is picked. I think he is best 22 but he is hardly good enough to stroll into the side off such a long lay off and in poor form.

Hard to make a call on Carroll given his sub role but if he plays well on Sunday thats all he can do. Hewett allows Cripps and Walsh to do as they please.

No change atm unless an injury pops up.
