On exposed form our ladder position flatters us massively.

We’re not playing top 4 football. Probably not top 8. Somewhere around 12th feels fair at the moment.

So far this year we’ve played one electric quarter against Brisbane. That is literally all we have done that suggests we are a genuine contender.

So much work to do.

Brisbane was pretty epic though.

The really good teams don't have to play at their best to win. So whilst we've not been at our best we we bank the wins and move on.

Until today. What annoys me is how we make almost every game close. If we're behind it's great that we can come back. But we are the worst in the league at stepping on the throat. Very rarely win comfortably.

Should have beaten Sydney by 4+ goals in the final last year but when our players saw we were 5 goals up the effort / pressure levels dropped off.

It was the same today but actually cost us the win. It's been a little while coming this one.

No need to overreact though. The next man up mentality is great but when you're missing 7 or 8 out of your best 22 it's going to have an impact.

GWS lost a couple of crucial players today.

If there was a stat for giving up easiest shots on goal inside your fwd 50 we would be high on the list ..
we pressing high without control of the play and getting caught out a lot..
out mids are all very fumbly and in front of half back( including mids) only Charlie and harry are penetrating and effective by foot - we carry to many guys that are ordinary by foot unless it a school yard pass ..
Harry seems better second ruck as he is involved in game for longer periods ( one game small sample size yes)

With Adelaide playing at their absolute best and us playing so very poorly I can't say that the result shocked me. It was a very disappointing performance but still doesn't make me reconsider my prediction of a top 4 finish at the end of the season.

At this stage of the season, it allows the coaching team and the players to look at the areas where we are letting ourselves down and work towards improving things.

There were many factors which contributed to our loss including;

We sorely missed Fogarty's presence in our forward line, he applies pressure like nobody else does.

Our smalls were woeful when it came to working at the bottom of packs when our key forwards weren't able to clunk a mark.

The loss of Saad in the second quarter was a disaster.

After seeing our scoreline at 8.2 and thinking we were matching them in the accuracy stakes, we went downhill quickly, after our next 10 scoring shots the scoreline was 10.10, it was never going to be easy for us from that point.

Our injury count continues to increase at a concerning rate which means that the players need to work extremely hard over the next few weeks for us to be reasonably placed on the ladder.

As much as I am very disappointed I still believe that we can put up a good showing next week if the players are in the right frame of mind and play at a level resembling their best, sometimes a result such as this one is the spur needed to get things moving in the right direction.

I'm not prepared to call the season done based on this loss.

I admire your confidence and to be fair i would probably say the same but for our pile of injuries. It was tough losing Silvagni and Docherty for the season and even without Martin, Motlop and Marchbank so far this season we have managed. But in the space of a week we have seen Fogarty, Cerra, Saad and McGovern all go down ( The last 3 all to hamstrings !). That is just too much going into a very tough stretch of matches... If this injury avalanche does not stop we will be lucky to make the 8.

Why does Harry chase, lead up, do the 1 and 2% stuff, but Charlie doesn't have to tackle or play a man when he doesn't mark the ball?
It’s his knees. I also reckon they are both aware of their strengths and weaknesses. It’s the best forward combo in the league and it’s only going to get better.

I know he excites a lot of our posters but I don’t have much hope for Motlop tbh, I would LOVE to be proven wrong, but too oft doesn’t know where to go imo.
what can we do about it though.
Maybe we should have been happy to pay overs for Gresham.
I don’t mind Orazio as he is smart but isn’t getting much of it.
Shoulda gone for ginnvan..hawks fan tho
Some points here, that I strongly disagree with. Motts clearly has the most potential of all our small fwd's imo. Has shown numerous times his ability to not only be in dangerous positions. But, to manufacture a goal through sheer skill and class. Gresham is bog ordinary imo and is no better than all of our small fwd's.
Ginnavin is not quick, but a smart player. We need more toe in our fwd line, really missing Cuners right now.

And the absence of Fog very apparent tonight … he’s one of those guys that gets involved in lots of chains with quick hands and his ability to apply great pressure helps us keep the ball in our forward fifty for longer … we missed that tonight
Fog I would argue, is our barometer. He is so consistent with his pressure, has some short-comings sure. Yet makes up for those by being an absolute heart and soul player.

i havent read through this thread so i dont know if its been answered, but can anyone smarter then me explain why keays always turns into gary ablett snr when he plays us?
Good point Jooce, just an ordinary player, unless he sees navy blue. Maybe it something to do with the fact that he is built like a sherman tank. Cinc could have been a nice match up for him, but alas he is apparently now also injured.

We dont have anyone that can run with him (in that position). For all his weaknesses, he has a massive tank and does not stop.

comments on Gresham and ginnivan were born from reflections on decent small forwards that become available and how rare good smalls are. Don’t get me wrong, didn’t want gresh, but he’s managing goals and touches playing for Essendon, you’d have to say he’s doing more than any of our smalls.
I rate cuners forward of the ball, sounded like he wanted more mid time but again, body fails 😞

I’m still as annoyed this morning as I was last night about throwing 4 points away…

My first game since 2019, so I take full responsibility I won’t go again!

It felt like the old days driving back home after a loss how’d you go BigFrizz36 ?

I feel less bad this morning.

Cows played at their absolute best, and had to seeking a win, plus they annoyingly always do against us anyway.

We flubbed many chances and still could have won if not for another few points, while being effectively a few men down late.

I'm not sure we beat GWS but we haven't hit our straps yet and we're hard to beat.

Firstly, I don’t doubt the effort of anyone on our list - our boys always have a massive crack.

Though from my perspective, and as a collective, we’d be one of the lowest football IQ teams out there.

Not posting this after a loss, I’m just consistently amazed at some of the dumb shit our guys manage week in, week out.

Not sure it’s not biased viewing on my behalf, but bloody hell, Im stumped at some of the stuff we bring to the table.

**** I hate Adelaide and their racist redneck (ex)captain
A few Crow supporters seem over the moon their ex skipper is a terrible person judging by the reacts.
