Part of the reason the Crows were so accurate yesterday was that they were able to take the ball forward so easily and set up their forwards (who were often in way too much space) in easy scoring positions. Having won 15 out of our last 18, I can’t be too critical of the team or the coach, but I thought Vossy was outcoached again by Nicks yesterday. It was a win we needed, because the next few weeks are going to be very tough, and even tougher now with our injury list.

Cripps interview last week against freo….we train for tight finish scenarios 😂😂
Hmm I think we have credits in the bank on that one. Last night deep into the 4th quarter looked like we ran out of legs as much as anything. But as Voss even said, there were defensive moments across the whole game we'd like back.

it's up to them now

If we want to put a positive spin on teh result here is my go:

Everything went right for them because they played better. A lot of things went wrong for us with Cerra out before the game and Saad followed by McGovern during the game.

That said and in full knowledge the third quarter kicking was down to match losing ratios....

There was no reason why despite Kemp and William's brain fart - the team could have won the game - against Adelaide's best efforts - in one player one moment OWIES and his showboating brain dead selfish RUBBISH

Looking forward this is nto the team that got Carlton to finals and into a prelim.....

Scratch Silvagni and. Dochety for the year

Martin/Cuningham/and now Saad /McGovern/Fogarty out for weeks who many - who knows....

I was pizzed about the result because banking a win against Adelaide would have not only finished their season but also given us an extra game up the sleeve - given the outs- I think Voss will be a miracle worker to get a win in the coming weeks.

Still haven't fixed the forward 50 entries - someone has to wake up about this - the last kick in should always be in teh hands of someone who knows what they are doing- it isnt next man up for jobs like this - cant always waste possessions and field position by not maximising the whole of forward fifty field and bombing it long to an expected set up against Charlie and harry and then try and hope to win a clearance and scroungescrag a goals a the ONLY way of scoring.

Yeah we do…I’m not denigrating Cripps for saying that. I’m sure we do train them and that’s a good thing. Last year fly and filth were saying the same thing after winning so many close ones. Everyone is different. To me it sounds a bit cheesy.

I always like to look at the positives, so here goes:

1. Ben Keays didn’t kick the winning goal
2: we don’t have to play Ben Keays for another 12 months (well… finals…)
3: if I don’t watch another Crows game before we play them next, Ben Keays might get a decent haircut
4: Ben Keays doesn’t play for *
5: Ben Keays doesn’t have a twin brother on an AFL list
6: If Ben Keays has children, I reckon I’ve got the best part of two decades until they are drafted
7: Ben Keays wasn’t responsible for the SARS lab leak

In the meantime, I am going to do the best I can to take some ownership of the situation. I’m about to write to Albo and ask if he can send Ben Keays over there as a peace envoy.

TDK is athletic but needs to find a way to compete against the likes of English, Darcy and O'brien who all outmuscle him or nullify his leap. Pitt has the strength
TDK steps up when given the #1 ruck mantle.

1 ruck is the way to go.

Pitto only plays if TDK is injured IMO.

It was - but the goal umpire guessed it was touched and ARC are never going to overrule them unless there is a 3m gap between ball and hand.
Why are goal umpires even in the conversation for touched off the boot? Don't we have 4 field umpires for that?

We didn't lose this match because of the umpires, but FME they have been shocking this season.

We seem to not be able to put teams away like we all had hoped. We let the Kangas kick 3 goals in 2 x quarter and 5 in another. It’s too much against a team that’s clearly a bottom 3 team and if the past 18 months is anything to go by, having close games will come back to bite at some stage and yesterday was one of those.

We need to be more cut throat and need to find speed along with players who are hungry to score goals.

I’m not convinced our forward line is a top 6 forward line ever if we were at full strength and injured plagued players on the books can bite us in the butt hard if the all break down at similar times.

Big shout out to Walsh though as he was terrific yesterday and really stood up after such a long lay off

Maybe it was the field umpire that called it not 100% either way it was a complete guess

Why does Harry chase, lead up, do the 1 and 2% stuff, but Charlie doesn't have to tackle or play a man when he doesn't mark the ball?
I don’t understand either, I watch him off the ball & he doesn’t do a lot pressure acts, which is weird when he has such a big engine. He also doesn’t seem to know how to lead very well, again he should be on the move constantly with his aerobic capacity, it’s been shown when more mature defenders like May are on him he can’t out muscle them so he should get on his bike.
A perfect example was last night when he lead & Boyd hit him perfectly, that’s how I want CC to play. He’s got long arms, put the dukes out & grab on the lead.
I love the guy, I just think he can be even better utilising his endurance.

Been ruminating on this game.

I feel that our backline structure fell apart after McGovern's injury.

We could cover Saad to an extent, but a second defender completely unsettles defensive assignments.

Clearances improved but our midfield suffered defensively particularly missing Cerra's excellent pressure.

Forward line continues to be a worry. Harry and Charlie are stars, but no third tall threat continues to hurt, Cripps is the most dangerous aerial threat outside the keys (TDK finish your work pls).

Without Fog, Durdin and Owies need to stay as pressure forwards, but I feel as though Fantasia needs a spell in the twos.

Sam Walsh, Weiters, Charlie’s goals, Boyd and that’s about it. Kennedy in the middle looked better (until Saad went off) think it helped our clearance dominance along with Walsh obviously.

- A number of players down on last year at this point; Newman, O Hollands, Acres kicking is letting him down more often, Cez has had a quieter start, Raz should probably be finding form in the twos given his long absence and along with players not being available.

Some one mentioned the team not being balanced and I think it’s certainly an issue in part, ie playing Durds, Owies and Raz is not working but not having Motlop and Jack Martin plus Cunners is not helping. Re the ruck Thought TDK with chop outs from Harry and Crippa and even Kennedy worked better. Missed Fog’s pressure too.

Cunners is an interesting one for me in that i get the lack of impact , but he’s clean with his disposals in and out of traffic which is a god send with today’s game of fast transition and high pressure on the ball carrier (nothing worse then getting a turnover in the back half, getting to half forward and then coughing it up).

The start to this year seems to feel like the start to last year in that we’re just getting by. Winning ugly is a string you need to have but you shouldn’t be doing it every week. Wonder if the “layers” added over the off season are causing players to think too much. Deciding when to go fast and take risks is not necessarily instinctive to everyone and you need good foot skills to pull it off. Taking it on through the corridor has dried up (the players were doing it in the early rounds) and we’re back to boundary virtually every time which eventually necessitates bombing it into the F50.

Going forward players back will help but perhaps a mental reset as well. Bar North we’ve created a habit of getting over the line in part I think because we’ve practised it and its been working for us but it shouldn’t be our default way of winning. Bombing it to Harry and Charlie shouldn’t be the only option either, our smalls are rarely in the right spots to take advantage of it.

Tough period ahead with key players out, feel any wins will be the same old grind for now.

I watched the game from the back of the top tier, so got a perfect birdseye view of what unfolded. We just couldn't handle their run and spread once the ball was turned over especially in their back half, they always had the player in position for the outlet kick or handball, and we were chasing arse the rest of the ground.

Which is why they were kicking into space in the forward half cos they were moving it with such precision, our defenders were caught out of position or just didn't have time to organise themselves - and Weiters was one of the key offenders. Your right though, losing Saad just threw everything out of wack.

Imo, we were completely outplayed today, and realistically had no right to be even as close as what we were. The fact that we nearly pinched it at the death would almost have been an injustice. But the fact that we nearly did pinch it is probably a good thing....I guess.
Exactly...so what do we do:
1. Replace a mid with a lumbering ruckman
2. Make another mid the sub

Our midfielders were not able to gut run and block space on turnover. Adelaide's forward line was empty when they went in

Were our mids playing too deep in F50 because the three stooges were next to useless as small forwards?
