Sure, but to get the type of picks we'd consider trading down to from Pick 1, they'd need to be trading away an absolute star. To get Pick 1 you'd need to trade a Top 5 pick and probably a Top 10, maybe with a 2nd rounder thrown in as well. Given their starting position, that's going to be very tough to achieve.
Adelaide still have their 1st ? They’d get a top 10 for Rachelle, and can include future picks so there’s their currency.
All I was saying is that if Sharp turns out to be a standout talent, like JHF , we are in a great position.
A. You take him and convince him he’s career is with us
B. You trade 1 for a couple of early first rounders.
We are not Norf so I’m not concerned about the go home factor with Sharp, but if you end up with pick 1 and 2 you’ve got to explore all options.

* obviously B. doesn’t work if Adelaide have a good 2025 and their R1 isn’t top 4 or 5.

small forward. Has he played in the middle? I dont know.

Not yet, but there was a scope to do that.

McAuliffe if he makes it has break away speed and despite not testing I reckon Lalor has that same sort of out of the blocks speed.

Also wasn’t our 2021 group Banks, Juddy and Browne all sub 3 sec 20m?

I know testing and game is different but the capacity is there.

But wouldn’t say no to more speed… speed kills.

Sharp is from the Barossa and barracks for the Bummers. Don't think it will be like the JHF situation with him having the family ties.

2026 we will need to consider that with Dougie Cochrane if we are still on the bottom.

Could only see Gibcus in the top 10 and that was for the standing verticle

Just undercut blues for Walker in our nga

Imagine he sees what we are building and picks us. Would be the perfect player for us with his size and pace and add Armstrong and Leys in same draft too.

And JHF situations don’t eventuate that often, I’m all for taking best available, I wasn’t concerned about taking Allan or Draper in this year’s draft.
Anyway we’ve got 12 months to see how things play out and assess how deep the draft goes, we saw how Smillie fell from the start of 2024, who’s to say the same won’t happen with Sharp.

I guess I’ll do the research.

So Juddy is 2.95

Brown 2.98

And Banks preseason testing was 3.02

Definitely not.

Cochrane has his dad desperately trying to find indigenous heritage to get his kids into their NGA and Port just rookied the older brother. Definitely has the vibe he will be out of there.

You never know but think Sharp is more on the FOS trajectory. U16 MVP, dominant under age year and still went 2nd barely playing his final year.

Listening to Blair talk about finals footy after night 1 and how contested it is I think they'll have a hard on for this kid. But we've got 12 months to see where it all lands.

Brown shown zero of his athletic traits in game so far.

The fox footy article refers to Sonsie's speed as a strength. Need him to show that too.

Im includng F/S as well

Yeah but that’s not 15 that’s 9 and a few of them are not in afl academy so it’s subjective from this far out if there will be that many in top 30. Welsh, 2x campireale and champion were “top 30” prospects last year tied to clubs.

Yeah I haven’t seen much of Browns athleticism. I’m not his biggest fan either, nice kick and mark but not much else.

If you go back and look that 2021 draft it
just overall sucks. So many disappointments besides the top few guys.

Erasmus, Hobbs, Sinn, Ward. Rachele is okay but not good enough for his draft position. We still would've been better off picking JVR but it is what it is.

I don't expect much from that 2021 player crop. Few solid role players. We need to build from this 2024 onwards as the core of the next premiership team

Hopefully Gibcus gets fit and locks down CHB with Balta at FB and Trainor 3rd tall. Juddy & Banks I think can be solid role players. Banks on a wing and Juddy off half back I'm hoping.

re: mcauliffe

"He's an explosive athlete, perhaps deceptively so, as demonstrated at the National Draft Combine. McAuliffe finished fifth in the 20m sprint (2.930 seconds) and standing vertical jump (77cm), while rising for the equal-third best running vertical jump (95cm). Considering his build and play style, they are excellent numbers."

just lacking a high agility score (not sure what he actually tested)

plus lalor in the gettable(?) interview mentioned that speed is his strength

so we've got a bunch of speedy big blokes but no complete tractors, extreme zip would be nice but if the top 1-5 picks next year aren't zipsters then we take what we're given

Small criticism but given that the recruitment team obviously planned on going after tall players and one of our two smaller selections is coming off an ACL, why did they keep Kmac over one of the two smalls we let go.

Can’t loose too much experience in one go

He’s on the wrong side of 30 anyway this will be his last contract I’d reckon

I don’t mind him tbh I know he didn’t have a great year but he ain’t alone on that

Wish we could fire that Hopper contract into the sun

Hopper if he gets fit will prove decent value for us yet. Eventually Taranto will play more high half forward I think, where he can use his 2 way running ability to max effect. Hopper will take the big bodies in the middle, leaving these young guns to crash through smaller players once they develop a bit.

I have seen enough of Hopper at his best at GWS to know he is a very good player. Just needs any sort of a run at it.
