The drivers needed to watch their fuel for 2 reasons - they needed enough to get to the finish line, and they also need to have at least 1kg left in the tank for scrutineering. However, the car's final weight is taken after the fuel has been drained, so fuel saving (or lack thereof) can't be the difference between a car being overweight or underweight.They referenced Vettel's DQ, which was for not having 1kg of fuel left in the tank at the finish of the race, as is required for scrutineering.
