Nothing against Jagga, and nothing to do with not being pick 1.
The top end of the draft was just weaker than most drafts, I struggle to se how McKercher or Duursma from last year wouldn't have been pick 1 material ahead of Lalor if they were a year younger, and I dont see how Sanders who was pick 6 wouldve gone lower than pick 2/3 if he was available this year, only falling behind pick 1 because of the type of player Lalor is. Id pick Sanders over Jagga.

Jagga is/will be a very good player, but hes not another Daicos lol
It's no skin off my back. You select O'Sullivan or Xavier Lindaay over Jagga Smith. I'm not going to convince you otherwise. Was just trying to help you out.

Sounds like Luke Trainor may be developing as a rebounding back flanker for us rather than a KPP. Skinny but track watchers think he could be a R1 chance.

Kaleb Smith I think a chance to replace Rioli.

Lalor back training and has started to slim down but don't think I'll be going there.

Smillie I think may be injured fwiw. Was killing it at training and then hurt his hip pre-Xmas. One to watch how that pans out over next few weeks.

Nick Daicos averaged over 30 disposals in his underage year...and has rattled off a plethora of 40 disposal games. Jagga definitely doesn't have more ball winning ability than Naicos. He'd be the most prolific player in the league if that were the case. That's absurd.

Nick Daicos: 35.8 disposals per game in 5 games in the Under 18's, had a 41 disposal game for Vic Metro.

Jagga Smith: 33.8 disposals per game but across a larger 12 game sample size in the Under 18's, has a 50 disposal game in the Talent League, averaged 29 disposals at the State Championships and 27 disposals at VFL level over 3 games for Richmond.

I maintain he has equal to or greater ball winning ability than Nick Daicos.

He certainly was good at winning the ball as an inside mid in the Under 18's, his kicking does let him down though, it really lacks penetration, also when under pressure tended to release 'loopy' handballs. His evasiveness and ability to get from contest to contest was probably unrivalled amongst his peers.

I think he lacks a little in versatility, you don't really want him playing in the backline where his kicking let's him down, fair bit different to the Daicos/Sheezel/McKerchers in that regard. He may be effective as a small forward in that Bolton type role, but will need to be close to goal to hit the scoreboard, his goal assists might be good. It'll be asking a lot from him to compete against AFL hardened mids at the coalface, his size could see him being easily pushed off or under the ball.

I've had all these discussions for months in the lead up to the draft, as I suspect you did as well being a Richmond fan. People see different things.

The bottom line is though, regardless of what you think of him - he's clearly the best available top-end mid rookie this season. I think he has clear job security, a pedigree of winning the ball and will have midfield time at Carlton.

He's in my starting team, but I'm seriously on the lookout for cheaper options with similar projected output, might not be possible, but I'm looking. Sort of need to as there's 7 $330k+ rookies.

Yep Jagga is and will be a really good player this year and for plenty to come

Jagga is just a natural accumulator, rather than an impact player .....and isn't that what we want ?

Jagga will be an excellent player no doubt and a great rookie for us this season. All serious players will own him.

But don't let this thread degenerate into a slanging match over who's young player is the best. The arguing is unnecessary.

Let's all just agree that Finn O'Sullivan was the best player in last year's draft and move on.

The other thing seen from this extended match sim...

Hollands is being FED the ball from HB

With no Nic there, I think this is one of the picks of the year potentially to get def status. If rooks are an issue, may try and run him M7 with Jagga M8!
Certainly was in the first half of the vid - it was obvious.
