I think based on what last year provided, I think Nostra is probably closer to what we can expect.

Northball can work, it's just needs refinement.

Worked for a half against the Pies. Might go watch that half now…

Not so sure about this. I think that it invites pressure and breaks down under it. I don't think it either suits our list or is a viable game plan in finals, which is really what we should be developing a game plan for.

We shall see. But I think that like last year, it will be great to watch when it works, but diabolical when pulled apart. Hopefully we don't have to watch anything as horrible as the two Hawthorn games last year, when Mitchell dacked Clarko.

The inability to execute basic skills under no pressure is what constantly ****s us.

Opponents know that we aren’t clean enough with the ball when in the clear, so they don’t have to run too hard to defend and pray on the inevitable turnover between the centre and HF.

Totally agree with both of these.

I think it'll come down to a balance. Play fast or slower at the right times which will come down to being able to read where the game sits at each point in time.

Spot on.

When we ran 'Northball' and had the kids with skill (Sheez & Colby) in the backline who were running past for the handball receive we looked good as they were hitting targets and creating overlap opportunities up the field.

As soon as their young legs got tired, our older players with much less skill started getting the handball receives.. nekminit.. turnover, turnover, turnover.. ****ing turnover city with no real pressure applied.

Hopefully with the addition of Daniel's sublime skillset behind the ball and the fitness maturity of those young legs, we'll stay cleaner with the ball for longer periods of the game and therefore get more scoring opportunities up the field with far less turnovers coming back the other way.

Hopefully..

I think you're right here - Daniel may be our best pick up of the three due to the potential flow on effect up the field.
Combine that with another pre-season into the younger guys (who then move up the ground due to his acquisition and can use their skills in a more damaging part of the ground) who should be able to play better for longer.

I feel like this will have the biggest impact on our game style in 2025.

Alternatively Clarko is looking a the handful of solid games with this plan and thinking we can do this much more often as the team matures. I don't think we can assume that the style isn't sustainable because a handful of QUOTE]That's the basis on which we're going to be successful. Add improvement when we haven't got the ball.

If we're going to be conservative, and take a damage control mentality, we'll go nowhere.

Which will then hopefully lead to them being even fresher when running the ball.

Careful mate.. everyone round here thinks we have a team of A class ball users. We have exactly 3 players that have above average disposal by foot (best 18 players).

No one send me the afl stats for averages, efficiency stats are compromised.

Ignoring stats, the eye test says that McKercher, Sheezel, Daniel and Powell all above average disposal by foot. Probably make a case for a half dozen others but those four immediately stand out to me.

Powell is borderline. I havent seen him stand out and pull off a 45. He’s an Average disposal. He is a baseline disposer.

Yep there’s no trust in skills to open up play with the players further up the ground making space to receive the following play.
It’s probably why we’re so stagnant at times.

Yeah nah. Powell is our 2nd best kick (especially going inside forward 50) behind Sheezel.

He is creative, has excellent vision and is able to pull off long damaging kicks, and shorter higher risk kicks.

Flat, hard and direct.

He’s a great kick.

Yeah, our drafting and list management comes under a bit of criticism here (lol) but I think it is fair to say we absolutely nailed this pick.

Curtis has some of the best field kicking in the team.

Corr and Logue are actually great kicks in the back half of the ground. The pressure they find themselves under inflates the perception of them being average. But given the same space as the above, they are reliable.

Parker is a reliable kick. So is Phillips.
