As a Brayshaw owner all of last season for the first time , I can confirm it was a tough own for the first half of true season.

One of those players that found a lot of it but didn’t get bang for his buck at times.

Unreal second half of the season and crucial to my ranking climb and league wins.

I felt being pushed to a high half forward role last year actually benefited him as it allows him to get easy ball as his opponent would often drop him. I am looking to start again this year and hoping they stick with the same role.

One thing I did notice is he gave away a lot of free kicks last year which impacted his scoring at times.

Can someone provide a short summary/logic for which byes are “bad” and “good”?

I’ve seen people say that R12 is bad - is that because it has 4 teams who play round 0 [edit: this is not correct, sorry for the bum steer]? But aren’t round 0 players helpful (as keepers) because they only have one bye and an early price increase, whereas other teams have 2 byes?

None of the the R12 teams are playing round 0, which is a little bad, cause as you say, we won't get an early squiz outside of the preseason.

I have very few r14 and r15 premos, in part because most of those teams have byes between round 2 and 4.

There are also lots of R12 premos (ie Roos, Dogs, Port and Blues players) who could be selected on their merits but you only want a few to miss each bye. So if you consider Xerri, Daniels, Butters and Bont locks, every additional premo leaves you with greater exposure when that bye comes around.

R13 teams are clearly the best on paper because there are only two teams - St Kilda and Freo - that week. (Personally I have to restrain myself from loading up on Saints and Freo players because they have quite a few promising options this year and I've already got quite a few)

I think if you were to take a bye-centric view of selecting premos, the Dees, Crows and Eagles are all pretty favourable, in that none have an early bye and they all have the "good" round 15 bye.

Flipside is that none are in round 0, so that's bad for their rookies, as none will have price changes a round earlier than the rest.

ie. Rookies from Brizzie, Geelong, Sydney, Hawthorn, GC, Essendon, Pies and Giants will benefit from being on the bubble a week early.

MP has already answered, but in a perfect world you would be trading in players coming off their R12 bye to complete your teams, but there are quite a few premo's many would like to start on that bye. Probably not a massive issue, but you don't want too many premo's missing.

It's not so much the 'early squiz' for me. If I want to avoid those players with the early byes then I end up with too many missing in round 12 and even though there's only 2 teams playing in round 13 then it's also easy to load up there too much as well (if avoiding the early early byes) I really don't like the round 12 bye as it doesn't allow any 'slingshotting' of players ie: it's pointless trading out of round 12 to avoid the bye when the player you're trading into still has a bye to come.

At this stage I have just the 2 players missing the early byes, Mills & Sniff but I have 4 missing round 12, Sheezel, Bont, Xerri and Daniel as well as 4 missing round 13, Clark, Serong, Macrae and Phillipou. Those 10 players are going to be popular picks but I don't think that I can load the team with any more players from those rounds.

Really only leaves the Crows, Melb, WCE and Tigers players as the best options and they're pretty thin on the ground. Peatling, Cumming, Dawson and Laird (as a defender), Rivers and Clarry and a few roughies in Taranto, Short and McGovern

From a planning perspective though, it'd be slightly advantageous to lock in the rookies on the bubble at the earliest occasion tho, no? Even if you aren't going to be able to cash them in any earlier than the others?

It's always risky going early on rookies, more so when there are byes involved. For example, a GCS rookie debuts in round 0 then plays round 1 and is on the bubble, but the coach has already decided to just give him 2 games for the exposure/experience and wanted to have a look at how he went, that rookie is then dropped to work on his game, is injured during training or the player that he replaced is back from injury.

Rivers, Short and Mills have been a staple of my plan team for a while now. I like Sinn if he can make a spot his own. IF Kiddy Coleman is fit, he will come in for Sinn most likely. Rookies may change but early indication is Bice and Travaglia should be playing and in potentially lucrative roles too.

My midfield will either excel or will completely cost me any chance of finishing anywhere near the top. I love Durham, not sure he will be a high enough scorer but i think he is a brilliant player who will hopefully see an up tick in CBAs. Day is one of my favourite players and has a high ceiling but injury risk and tag risk is there. Still, i like 'risking' him. Cerra is undervalued if given the right role and Oliver has just snuck into my team with the Petracca news and given so far he seems to be having a decent preseason. Im not entirely sold but at the price he is worth a risk. Ashcroft could become one of the best players in the league this season i reckon. Time for him to explode! Dawson is a strange one, could see him go berserk or could see him plateau a bit. The other player im considering here is Ed Richards

Rucks are locked in. Considering TDK in the flex spot but i think im happier to keep the flex open to other positions rather than locking in a ruck. I see a fair bit of upside with TDK but like i said, probably not enough there to lock him in. Flynn on the bench is a big spend but if he can make 200k then it gives me massive versatility with trades as i can downgrade at any time.

Forwardline is MPM. Currently deciding between the young and the old with respect to Sanders or L.Parker. If given the right role i see considerable upside in both. I can see a range of outcomes for both and im open to the idea of downgrading them and running Hewett/Erasmus/Curtin on field.

Obviously my strategy is fraught with risk and my season could be over early but i just love the midfield options so much that i dont want to leave any of them out. I dont trust the forwardline premiums as far as i could throw them and my backline i think makes use of the value options quite well. To be honest, if i abandoned my strategy of keeping cash in the bank i would probably upgrade Sinn to someone like Sinclair but like i said, i rate Sinn highly under the right circumstances and Coleman is likely the bail out option if and when he is fit.

Like the Maric pick, rolling with him at D6 atm. I think Curtin as a 2nd year, 200cm forward is not the one for his price. Let's see if the Maric down back experiment works.

Nice team, but IMO a bit light on the rookie spend, players like Lindsay, Smillie, Lalor and possibly Draper all look like being reasonably productive and early starters. That being said, most of those you've picked could also have early debuts.

Basically similar thoughts; he's somewhat of a speculative pick but if he can get that 3rd tall/outlet role that would be Supercoach gold, especially as we haven't really had someone as the prime distributor since Hurn retired. Now the overall composition of our defence, (and team as a whole) is still very much up in the air, but I'm confident Maric will be utilised in the back half - the only question is how the rest of the team is set up, and how far that goes to allow him the most lucrative SC opportunities.

Here's my latest iteration.

-Bolton has gone out. Looks like he's going to play predominantly as a small forward based off match-sim/training reports.
-Kerch has gone out. Played midfield in match-sim/training, which I don't like. I want him seagulling down back if I'm to pick him.
-Perryman has come in. He's training with the mids, looks like his wish of midfield time will come true.
-Cerra has come in. I think he's worth a punt at his price, especially with Walsh's injury news.
-Maric has come in. The news of him playing down back makes him really enticing, as there's lots of opportunity for kick/marks down back for the Eagles. I don't like Curtin at $160k (even though the Crows have a decent run of matches to start the year)

If we get enough good-lookin rookies that can't be ignored, my premo watchlist consists of Flanders, Sheezel, Bont and Butters, so maybe 1 or 2 of them will come in.
