I was thinking the same thing. Is the 23rd man/sub rule a bit different in the VFL compared to seniors. As in can they have five players interchanging at the same time all throughout the game? Some here might know.

Or as happens sometimes when from halftime onward one of the 22 take no further part in the game so as to be emergency for seniors, that 23rd player becomes part of the 22?
