So this is my thinking. I am thinking this could be an all encompassing 21st century mock draft. This is we line up every player drafted in the 21st century as an 18 year old, knowing the players they became and we decide who goes where.

For the draft order I am thinking the current ladder

So

Pick 1 - North Melbourne
Pick 2 - Richmond
Pick 3 - West Coast
Pick 4 - Adelaide
Pick 5 - St Kilda
Pick 6 - Brisbane
Pick 7 - Hawthorn
Pick 8 - Western Bulldogs
Pick 9 - Melbourne
Pick 10 - Gold Coast
Pick 11 - GWS
Pick 12 - Fremantle
Pick 13 - Collingwood
Pick 14 - Geelong
Pick 15 - Port Adelaide
Pick 16 - Essendon
Pick 17 - Carlton
Pick 18 - Sydney

and so on for 3 rounds.

The rules are to treat this like an actual mock draft, so pick the player who is either best available or best suits your list.

So my general idea is people will nominate a club they want to pick for, and hopefully we get enough people who want to participate so we don't have any double ups. I hope to go for 3 rounds but we will see how it goes.

Now the rule here is that you are only able to pick players who were drafted in the 2000 draft or later, I know technically 2000 is not the 21st century but these players would have only started playing in 2001 which is the 21st century. I have also made some lists of players who have won the All Australian at least 3 times, but also included some other awards too, but by no means do you only need to select from the list.

You are also free to nominate someone who has been retired for 5 years, or if you feel really confident, happy to include a player who is only in their second year, if you believe they have enough talent to be ahead of more established players. For instance it would not surprise me if Nick Daicos or Harley Reid end up in the first or second rounds despite having very little experience compared to a lot of players on this list.

So here we go

Yes, it will be a 'snake' draft so no real advantage what point of the draft you select from. I will put 1990 or 2000-2023 (depending if we include the 90's or not) in an online random number calculator. Whatever year it picks will determine the order of the draft (starting at last place). Actually, I may have to start later to ensure GC and GWS are included.

lock me in for the dees please

Fremantle: We have been on the lookout for an electric small forward with midfield capabilities to replace Lachie Scultz. We feel while Cyril has shown enormous potential we have found the perfect replacement where the ceiling can't hold his enormous talent; a talent where we are still yet to see his peak.

With that said. Fremantle select with pick 66.

So who did you pick? :p

Izak Rankine

I vote for randomisation as it appears it may actually unsettle a few of my competitors. ;)

Happy to take St Kilda to glory again too, of course.

And despite the points made by others I vote for '90's recruited players included (Pav, Goodes, Hird, Voss, Buckley, Enright, McLeod, Scarlett, Ricciuto, Hall, Boomer - how can we shut the door on these champions?) - but this appears an unpopular choice and I'm happy to participate in '00's onwards only.
I'd love 90's players too

With pick 67 in the 21st Century Mock Draft, the Collingwood Football Club select Josh P. Kennedy (mid).

I simply have to go for the best available player, after previously addressing our key forward and key defensive deficiencies, and Josh P. Kennedy's CV says it all.

3 x All-Australian, 3 x club Best and Fairest, Premiership Player, Gary Ayres Medalist (in a losing finals campaign), 290 games and Sydney captain between 2017 and 2021.

Adding Kennedy to the Collingwood midfield rotation of Selwood, N. Daicos, De Goey, Pendlebury, Crisp and Mitchell - is there a better mix in the game? Also allows De Goey to spend more time forward, and Pendlebury and Crisp to patrol the backline in their twilight years.

We are also excited to welcome Ana Calle to the club...

Lingsface - over to you.

I am personally against it as I simply don't know enough about that era. I mean don't get me wrong, I can name the A+ players, and even the A players, but after that it gets a bit more difficult as I didn't watch much of the era, meaning I couldn't really make many informed choices. Would mean after the stars of the 90's were taken I would have to stick to the 2000's since those are the players I know better.

Collingwood best 22:

Quaynor - Weitering - Maynard
Crisp - Moore - Pendlebury
Sidebottom - Kennedy - J. Daicos
De Goey - McStay - Hill
Mihocek - Hawkins - Elliott
Cameron - Selwood - N. Daicos

Lipinski - Howe - McCreery - Mitchell

(Schultz, Richards, Markov, Sullivan, Harrison, Cox, Hoskin-Elliott, Noble)

Well, damn.

Some solid choices, but:

-Hill over I.Smith/Duncan/Dal Santo/Lewis/Hannebery/Gaff
-Rankine (just being this early into career) over Gray/Wingard/Le Cras/Heeney/O'Keefe/Didak/Elliot/Papley

I'd classify as controversial.

That's unbelievable value.

Pretty much Sydney's Selwood/Pendlebury as a core midfielder to build a contending team around for many years. Hell of a leader and big time player too.

Wingard didnt have the attitude to match his talent. Im a port supporter as well as Dockers so is why I didnt pick Gray.

Fair enough. There's a long way to go but I'd have Wingard at 24 years old tracking better than Rankine. But Rankine could overtake him, as Wingard fizzled out a bit. Ryan O'Keefe maybe a little ahead with strong years even in his 30s?

Didak did have 2x AA's and leading goal kicker in a premiership year.

Heeney is an interesting one. Do you think if he was managed a little better early he could've had a Dustin Martin type mid/forward career?

Yes. Unfortunately Longmire gets a bit stubborn with positions sometimes. He kept Heeney in the forward line way too long because he was so good there, ignoring the fact he was drafted as a midfielder and really needed to be moved there after a few years in the system.

Did the same thing with Mills, though not as bad. He kept Mills in defence way longer than he should have.

I could have picked HEeney, also considered Porplysa

I also provided justification for picking Rankine given his ceiling is unknown. I think his lack of consistency relates to the overall structure of the Crows. Put him in a good side and he will rip up the game

Sorry I wasn't having a go, just discussing some other players who haven't gotten a mention.

I don't mind some risk, but we are conservative at St Kilda so preferred players with already established champion/legendary careers (people may disagree with Greene, but I have him right up there for general forwards over the past 30 odd years).

I Went for balance.

Curnow was the best available fwd imo
Goddard and Montagna are both proven champions. Rankine was for the unknown

Imagine if Rankine discovered this thread. Hed be stoked.

Id love to see who Brownie,Joey, and Buckley would pick

So it's Goddard -> Dal -> Ball -> Montagna for the '00 draftees. I'd have Montagna in 3rd maybe.

The Hayes mention was referring to Purps.

Take him out and have Goose in his place.

Goddard.
Dal.
Ball.
Joey.
Goose.
