Doesn’t mean they wouldn’t make way. Francis could be moved back to defence. I think both of them were the least likely to make way.
Personally I wouldn’t be making wholesale changes to the structure after the way we’ve played the last 3-4 weeks. If they make 1 change it’ll likely be langford back for someone, not sure Tippa will play again this year.

Heal what? Wasn't it just a stress "reaction"?? 🤔.
Just for once, i'd love the club to be straight with us regarding **** like this. Clearly was a bigger issue than initially stated.

It was a bone edema that was starting to cause pain so they rested it. It wasn't at the point of being a stress fracture, but if he keeps playing on it that's what it will become. I think Towno helped us figure out which bones would exactly be involved with a 'bone edema' a couple of pages back.

Here's the club website version;

"Since Harry presented with that initial foot soreness some weeks ago, we have taken a very conservative approach to that injury. Despite rest he has remained symptomatic and while there was some hope he could play again this year, unfortunately he needs to have the surgery now to treat the underlying issue,” Mahoney said.

"Our rehab program gave Harry every chance to return this season. Based on that plan, he trained last week with the team and although slightly improved, his foot was still sore enough following the sessions for us to make the decision to prepare Harry for the pre-season.

“Harry met with the surgeon on Monday morning and the recommendation was for Harry to undergo surgery in the coming days.

“We will continue to fully support Harry and this course of action will mean he will focus on his recovery and rehabilitation in the off-season, ready for a full pre-season campaign.”

For everyone that didn’t read this thread 3 pages ago:
Bones are going through a constant cycle of stress and recovery. Stress fractures, or in this case stress reactions, occur when the recovery part fails to keep up with the accumulating stress over a period of time and starts to progressively weaken the bone. This process can sometimes be completely pain free until it actually fractures, so it's always good to catch it before then.

This can be from a number of factors, loads increasing (beyond their capacity) or recovery insufficient (through diet/illness/stress/insufficient rest, etc.). Growth can certainly be a risk factor, unlikely to be a big factor for Jones.

Should heal well. But having had 2 stress injuries now, he's certainly a much higher risk of developing more in the future.

There are different grades of stress reaction, but we won't find that detail out. I don't even know which bone it is, or the last one was, which is certainly important in recovery. Hopefully not navicular, which is slower than others.

If we are looking like making finals, he'd probably be in the frame to play.
The stress fracture that he had last year was at the base of his big toe;

That injury update was the first we heard of it, dated 18/5 during the COVID shutdown. R2 was the first game after the shutdown on the 14/6. He was running in the Alter-G before R4 (27/6) and running over ground in R5 but still unavailable for senior selection until R9 (31/7). So he missed about 10 weeks with that injury? And then never got selected for his debut in the back end of the season (with scratch matches etc).

I don't know if that tells you enough to extrapolate anything about that injury, if it was navicular or something else 🤔
Metatarsal last time then :thumbsu:
This time?
No real info yet
Difference between a fracture and reaction? Would be important for recovery timeframes.
Bone edema Towno78. And they're not calling it season-ending (yet).

Had to look that one up

Bone marrow edema is a condition that can be identified on an ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan and is often associated with osteoarthritis, a fracture, or joint injury. 1 It can also be associated with bone infection (osteomyelitis), which is seen in an MRI as well.
Grade 2 or 3 stress reaction most likely then. 4b is stress fracture.

Season ending if we aren't likely to make finals would be my guess, get him up if we are.

Is that now two stress reactions in his feet?
Is it the same foot?

What does surgery involve for something like this?
i’d put him in for a heel replacement. there’s a few places in Europe that will do it.

I always laugh when I read a statement such as: "X met with the surgeon on Monday morning and the recommendation was for X to undergo surgery".

Not saying he shouldn't have surgery, but surgeons generally recommend surgery...Scrubs had it right

X met with the surgeon and the surgeon recommended warm baths, hot milk and early to bed

.. yeah nah

tbf they seemed to try the warm baths, hot milk and early to bed for a while before consulting the surgeon 😛

It’s kinda odd actually that we expect every injury to involve surgery and then demand to know why it wasn’t operated on earlier. Usually you go to the doc and they refer you to get scans and then to a surgeon if that’s thought to be necessary.

You shouldn’t be slicing and dicing at every opportunity just for the heck of it, especially with young players and injuries that essentially should recover by themselves with proper rest, otherwise you’re probably just shortening their careers for them.

The unanswered question for me is - what surgery is there for a stress reaction that isn't yet a break in the bone? The only surgery I can see talked about when I google "surgery for bone stress reaction" is surgery that will pin the bones to assist healing a break.

Heel removal

And the injury update, removed a bone ossicle that was impinging and causing bone stress. Towno78 send help

Murphy confirmed key forward Harrison Jones had already undergone surgery to treat a foot injury which ended his season.

The surgery will ultimately give the 20-year-old the best chance to be ready for the 2022 pre-season.

“'Jonesy' had surgery early in the week to remove a little bone ossicle in his foot,” Murphy said.

“It was creating a bit of an impingement in there that was creating the bone stress.

“The decision was to remove this and get him right for the pre-season. (The decision) was conservative for the young fella to get this right going forward.”

Best possible news. If that little bone was the cause of his problems and they have fixed it, that is great.
Hopefully, they have got it right and it's clear sailing ahead.
