I’d LOVE you to be right re this call but you’d have to think the chances of that statement coming to fruition would be a 1 in 1,000 shot. At best.
Based on what he’s shown so far, I’d be satisfied with him being a solid 150 game player as part of the supporting cast to LDU, TT, Simpkin, Wardlaw, McKercher and Powell.

Will would br taking alot of confidence into 2024. Got a Brownlow vote in the final game of the season and in our drought breaking win.
Shane Woewoeful won a Brownlow Medal whilst Wayne Carey never won one. Dont go using Brownlow votes as some sort of justification regarding a player’s performance. :stern look

I love how the WP bashers got so annoying that the pendulum has swung back the other way and now we've spent pages and pages going on about how great he'll be. Keep it up guys
Great? He may become a serviceable player but I can’t see how Phillips will be “Great”. :stern look

Some just want to bag him even when he plays well - even using the made up excuse that the suns playing weren’t trying.

He’ll be better than Rowell
Once upon a time a myriad of Turkeys thought that Urquhart would be better than Pendlebury. I’m sorry brother but this post of yours quoted above has those vibes. :stern look

Comparisons of their respective third years in the comp

1 in 1,000 seems a little underselling of WAP

I'd expect that if Phillips puts together 2 full seasons in a row like Rowell has in 22-23, he will be regarded on the same tier of mids.

We need to back him though, I would prefer to see Will given a consistent run in the midfield for 10-12 games in 2024 with regular CBA volume, rather than Sheezel chipping in for 4-5 games and pushing Will back to the reserves.

It's pretty easy to write him off after seeing what LDU is doing now and TT etc.

However, interestingly, those blokes also showed the same glimpses of brilliance but struggled a bit with their growth. That's why I think we need to learn patience with these types of players. They get going before you know it and we start seeing what they are capable of from a more consistent front.

LDU had a bit of a weird patch that looked like he had the clumsy stuff with some things he was doing then one day he became a behemoth ball winner and started doing Judd shit. I don't think Phillips will follow the same elite trajectory (he's not the LDU type) but he has excellent footy IQ and can win the hard ball cleanly. He is a bit of a slow burner like his teammate (which COVID and glandular fever can make much harder to overcome).

He made some prolific midfielders look second rate in a few contests. I'm excited to see how he plays with some proper preparation and a proper year to tackle it.

Nick Larkey got the three votes that day.... Probably the wrong game for that analogy.

Will's also not a centre half forward. He's a midfielder, so I would happily judge his game based on Brownlow votes as it is a midfielders award...

Got to give this kid credit. Clearly works hard, does the right things to make the most of his physical development. Hope he can really kick on this year as we desperately need a few more players in that age bracket to come good otherwise we run the risk of a similar big gap between the Simpkin / Larkey / LDU gen and Sheezel / Wardlaw etc.

I'll back him in, as thus far, he is blink and you missed it type i.e. when they show the replay of a goal, you then notice he was the one that got the handball out.

Reckon between the extra runners in our squad hopefully creating better possession chains and an increase in WiPhi's fitness, the natural improvement will come.

Ill say it again,

Go watch his gold coast game (most recent).

Afl App>Stats>search: Will Phillips>rd24vGold coast

This was his best game for the club. 26 touches at 88% with 450metres gained…

But more importantly, watch the details in his game. Super clean, releases players, accelerates out of stoppages, evades oppos very well, has a great kick, decision making at speed, strength at the stoppage against oppos (he shoves Matt Rowell out of the stoppage contest quite a number of times and wins the ball)

I will add the Collingwood and * games too.

For a smaller mid, he does the real inside grunt stuff really well and then feeds the guys like Powell/LDU running past.

I am a fan. It was always the case of building a tank after coping glandular fever.

I watched the gws game in Tassie last night.

11 disposals at 100% in the first qrt. 3 quick ones to start the second, and then he got what looked like a corkie and they sat ward on him, taking him right out of the game.

That was on the back of his breakout games against Collingwood and the bombers.

I’ll give you it’s the wrong game for that analogy. And no shit Phillips is a midfielder. Wow thanks for that Captain Obvious. Plus you say it’s a midfielder’s award. Go over to the AFLW and check out how hard done by Garner has been in the equivalent award. And guess what? She’s a midfielder. Your argument is idiotic! :stern look

I'm going to be honest, you sound particularly unstable and extremely casual as a football fan.

"But Wayne Carey didn't win a Brownlow?!?! It's almost as if KP players don't get Brownlow votes!!"

Like you said....No shit.....

My "Idiotic" argument: "Will Phillips getting a brownlow vote in the final game (when he deserved it) IS relevant because it's a midfielders award"

Lastly, Monique Conti is a superstar and we have an array of star midfielders to take votes from Jas. Yes, Jas could've easily won it but did you just watch the North games, did ya? Saw Monique Conti live plenty of times and I wouldn't have batted an eyelid if they gave her 6 votes for the games I was at. She is dominant.

I appreciate Mon Conti as a footballer, but they gave the game away when they awarded her the 3 votes the day she stood in the crowd watching us play Port Adelaide.

Your honesty means nothing to me when it comes from an individual with an inability to see that the umpires get plenty wrong when handing out Brownlow Votes. I can still recall Scott Watters getting a Brownlow Vote when we thumped the Swans by over one hundred points. He was no where near the third best player in that game. In the corresponding game in 93 up in Sydney, Jamie Lawson snared a vote when we beat the Swans by 60 odd points. Once again Lawson was no where near the 3rd best player in that game. That you place credence on Brownlow Voting highlights that you’re clueless. :stern look

Thanks for the 31 year old reference based on your opinion of a performance. What you're really saying is YOU should give the brownlow votes? Perfect.

Fantastic tagline too btw "I'll get up your arse and do some work. :stern look".

I take back that unstable comment....

I bet you didn't even watch or know what Will Phillips performance we're all talking about because you haven't referenced it once...

I've often pondered doing a side of who they are like.

So eg Phillips/Rowell. Urquahart/ Pendlebury. Goldstein/20 ***** etc. It would be quite the side let me tell you.
He does look very fit n strong, so that's a grand thing.

I'll take this bet.

Happy to bet that the gimp masked one watched the game.

what's the stake?
