will played well in both of the opportunities he got in the pre-season games. far more than you can say for shiels or tucker

Maybe their experience and hard bodies are preferred against a tough GWS unit

We are already playing two brand new kids and have lots of 2nd/3rd year players

I would have thought a more like replacement for Jy?

I also thought we had a bit of run from Kercher, Fisher, Scott, Stephens, Goater, Wardlaw - that Lazzaro might have been too much vs the need for inside. This will be interesting

Now, if you could also confirm that CCJ will play then I can start the post match analysis thread and reserve the first two posts for our two most maligned players.

what i don't get is what everyone want from CCJ? Do they want him to be corey mckernnan in 1996 or what? He is a ruckman with like 30 games of experience. I wonder what Goldstein, Gawn etc were like when they were at 30 game experience?

Agree with this. Player development will be different under Clarko than it was under anyone since Pagan. CCJ needs a show of faith and hopefully will get it. Has the potential, and is quite a decent ruckman, from what I've seen.

Without looking, because who has the time at half nine on a Thursday, I would think both were much better rucks. It's not like it is his 3rd season.

i say that pagan didnt do a lot of development with the main team but the vfl team, he just happened to have most of the later premiership team under him in the vfl. If anything, clarkson is the first coach we had that does developing. Much greater levels of professionalism. Let's say clarkson' tenure is just 5 years, he might not win us a flag but we are definitely winning a few because of him.

It's no big deal. We're probably looking for inside-outside mid types against a fast moving team. We've named four of them. William will get his chance.

To be honest I'm relieved that he, Lazz and Powell aren't in the same 23. We can't really fit them all in their preferred positions

phillips will be a very useful tool in the long run, we need plenty of highly proficient workhorses.

When did this happen? I didn’t see Clarko single Phillips out for praise once let alone multiple times

At the Fan Day, and in one of his pressers.

Dude he’s 40 years old and it’s his 20th year on an AFL list. The Corey McKernan reference is a good one as CCJ reminds me of the worst version of Corey, when he forgot how to do everything football related, couldn’t time his jumps etc.

Don’t bring up crap to defend him. He has been on an AFL list for a long time now and in his mid 20s. His ouput to date has been crap. Now is the time for him to put up. Continually making excuses and invoking absolutely ridiculous comparisons isn’t accurate or helpful and is covered in delusion.

Pagan coached alot of the 90s side in the u19s.

Just isnt quite there yet. Its not that he doesnt try hard.
He just isnt giving that manic approach and I reckon hes off by 5 or 10%.
Lazzaro definitely had the better pre-season and with Jy out, its never been a better time than to trial Powell as a full time mid.

Problem is that he will never be a first choice mid with who’s ahead of him.

He struggles massively when not in the middle.

Tucker is a run-all-day wingman type and Shiels is there for seniority. Phillips was competing with LDU, Wardlaw, Powell and Lazzaro for a full-time onball position and all 4 of those guys had better pre-seasons. He will get opportunities, don't worry.

Improvement? Its his 5th year in the system, I'm not writing him off but I would like see him start to reverse his statistical decline.
