Also i absolutely subscribe to the idea of get yourself firing in the 2's and get a call up. Just makes sense. The caveat to that is that if the current midfield set up is not working, then it goes the other way too. If you are not firing in the 1's, you should be dropped.

Not a simple equation by any means, many many factors go into that. Do we persist with the current set up until someone in the 2's fires, ignoring failure in the 1's? Does poor performance in the 1's lower the bar someone in the 2's needs to clear?

I think we've already answered that with Lazzaro being dropped. The next part of the equation is whether you have to be banging the door down in the 2s?

Depends surely? I mean CCJ wasn't banging down the door but because we wanted an extra FWD/RUCK and he was seen as the only valid choice he was playing. If a midfield isn't firing then yeah, maybe it makes sense that a different midfielder comes in even if his form might not scream for it to happen.

CJ did alright in the vfl. Kicked a bag and did well in the ruck, but to state that he’s been underperforming in the AFL is an understatement.

With the benefit of having seen the team for Sunday and Stephenson being dropped I think Clarko is giving players 3 or 4 games before dropping them. Which kind of makes sense, whether he’s telling them directly or it’s implied, they know they’ve got some security but if they’re out of form they’ll be dropped. Means he can rotate the squad trying to find the best 22 without making mass changes every week which would destroy everyone’s confidence.

absolutely right. Lazzaro got a couple of games, couldn't nail it; Stephenson quiet week on week, shake hands with Tom Lynch.

This will be the pattern for the rest of the year, provided there's the fit soldiers to choose from.

Will has shown us glimpses that he can crack it at the top level. Unfortunately, Laz has never managed that - despite his best efforts. We know Stephenson is capable. His concern is his attitude and focus. Will and Phil can be part of our future. The ball is in their court. If Laz had half their potential , he’d already be an absolute lock by now.

He’s not the lone answer to our problems overall. But he is a two way runner, with creative and neat foot skills, who showed last year an ability to accumulate the ball when given adequate time at CBA’s.

What he brings we have lacked. I also don’t understand the concept some people have mentioned that you can’t play him and Simpkin together. Not having a go just curious as to why ?

All 3 can duck off in my opinion…

It’s not him & Simpkin, it’s him & Powell. I got told that by a friend of a friend so not sure how accurate, but it looks the case so far. Maybe they’ve decided to just have a look at it now.

I have never seen the two way running. He is great at pressure at the first level but Powell was outrunning him in the pre season and I don't rate his running at all. I hope he just hasn't shown it yet.

I asked Will about this at the fan day in Feb. He says that he sees Powell and Lazz as having different styles, with Lazz being very outside, Powell being a bit closer in and Will being a pure insider. I think there are enough differences that Will and Tom can actually complement each other.

Nice. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.
