I think the selections on the extended interchange bench of RHJ/Archer/WillPhil 24 hours ago was to let these guys know you are close, but not quite ready to come in. The injury to Dawson thru a small spanner in the works, and Biggy gets to benefit. Let’s hope these 3 figure prominently in the VFL coaches votes over the weekend to further push their case next week (Hawks). In all honesty that is the game you want to come in for, as it’s our first realistic shot of getting the chocolates this year. Hard to drop anyone from a winning team.

Obviously they rate Lazarro as a better midfielder than Phillips, and even Phillips' biggest fans would concede that he's not a forward of any sort. Hence Drury.

I really like willphil but anyone losing it at the coaches for not selecting him are misinformed. He was not impressive in the vfl match and looked lazy. Our midfield was getting absolutely destroyed for a part of the game

He's gotta show some hunger and dominate, 35+ not 15. Hopefully has a real dip in the two's. His inability to spread and defend after the contest is what's keeping him out.

Laz trumps Wil for me in the way he moves and what he’s done this year. Wil needs to get moving in the VFL.

Laz & now Looks like Drurie ? Yes Drurie! rated higher than Wil… looks like the selection committee are seeing what we have been seeing from Wil….
Not much (still there are campaigners losing their shit cos he hasn’t been selected) 🤦‍♂️

I don’t think they rate Lazz over Philips but I do think that we can’t have Tom, George, Luke and Will all in the midfield - it’s too one paced and dimensional. Lazz is more outside and a point of difference

Drury clearly more pressure forward which I think gives us a different look.

Will will get his chance

A point of difference alright - he's a non factor in cba's...

We need a one-touch extractor in at bounces to feed ldu and Powell, and that's where Will comes in imo.

Our midfield setup is for the bin atm

Battling a whole bunch of things at the moment.
The body and knee he's trying to get stronger. Building up his core strength as well as his fitness base and the glandular fever isn't helping either with the chronic lingering effects.

Feels the responsibility heavily about turning the clubs fortunes around as the pick 3 from 2020. With TT gone and Powelly coming into form, mentally he now feels like than rather being part of the solution to turn our fortunes around he is just battling with form and knowing he's down the pecking order.
Helps he sees a psychologist to go through not being in the 22 each week and yes, the constant comparisons to Logan McDonald in the media don't help.

He's going to be a slow burn. Its a long year but hopefully one day it just clicks and all comes together. Whatever role he has to play in this team its going to take a lot of maturing. Both physically and mentally.
Not against him getting super, super fit and becoming the next Luke Ball. Doesn't have to win 30 touches a game but maybe a role as a run with player might suit. There is another bloke by the name of Liam Shiels who made a career in the same manner.

He doesn't need to be Chris Judd or Gary Ablett for us, but I think there is more setbacks ahead before we see any positives. Just my thoughts.

Think he will be wanting to be traded at seasons end best north will get is a 3rd round pick.
Unfortunately illness injuries and extremely poor coaching set up at the NMFC in the last 5 years hasn’t helped either.

Patience everyone. Will's position is inside mid but he doesn't have the body yet to play that role. He is too easily knocked off the ball and gets torched on the spread. He is at least another pre-season away. There aren't many short inside mids in the comp, but two that Will should watch are Libba and Neale. Both have bigger tanks but more importantly the strength not to get knocked off the ball at stoppages. Until Will has this he isn't going to help us much.

You obviously have some connection to him.

There are a lot of us out here who wish him nothing but success.

Only need to look at the number on his back and know that based on his character he wears one of our most venerated numbers personally passed to him by one of our best ever players.

Go well Will f*** them all.

Is Drury a better forward than Phillips though? Reckon Phillips would offer more even in that role. Ability to win the football probably outweighs anything that Drury offers.

You’re saying this but have you considered the player might not be happy with not getting a game and want to leave? The lack of contract signing is notable.

The issue with guys the size of Will Phillips is they need at least one, but preferably 2, elite traits - explosive speed, penetrating kick, elite fitness, exquisite skills, elite tackling/pressure...... I'm not sure WP has any of these. There's a plethora of guys 3-5 inches taller that have his attributes, but at least they provide a bigger body and something overhead.

Can he play in a potent AFL midfield with Jy & Wardlaw????

Traded to where? West coast? Because he aint going to be getting any more opportunities than at a developing bottom 2 club.
