That’s a different conversation and Clarko must believe that George and LDU are ahead of Will at the moment.

I believe Will has been working very hard on his defensive stuff so he’ll get a chance but it looks like he has to be undeniable or wait for one of the 3 current extractors to be out
Wardlaw and LDU are the mids Will needs to release, not compete with.

Well they aren’t running it that way.

I’d like to see it but until one of the other three are out, it seems he’s next in line.

Apparently he is really working on his defence and doing well. Perhaps that might flip the hierarchy and change the thinking.

Will Phil with 21 touches and a massive 12 tackles, with 4 clearances in the VFL win against Brisbane.

Absolutely has to come in to the AFL team based on that performance.

Kerch out, wilphil in. Easy

Would rather see 35 and 6. He can't get a game off the back of 15 and 21 possessions in the 2s, he was putting up better numbers last year. I'm not sure if you watched but he offered nothing outside of the contest again and those numbers indicate he's not winning his share of the contests. B.J would go back to VFL and put up massive numbers, tackles included. Our midfield is rubbish, our depth is not great, Will won't solve any problems short term. Let him work on his game in the VFL.

Nah, got to give him a go. I don't think he has been great or will solve any major problems but if he can at least provide a little pressure inside, it would be good.

It doesn't really matter, we are absolutely trash and an average hawthorn will probably pump us. His confidence is shot and playing him in the 1s won't help.

Has to come in. We got thrashed in the centre clearances and that’s his bread and butter. Play him for the rest of the season. Give him the experience of playing against the more developed midfields too.
We have been thrashed when the game is there to be won (first quarter) all year.

LDU has been average to crap for a few weeks now.

Powell started well to the year but has dropped off without any support.

Laz is good trier and ok in space. He is providing good defensive pressure, but is just too small to win the ball himself.

Jy needs a good month in the VFL. It is foolish to try get players back into form in the ones.

And now that there is little effort and movement, Xerri is getting mauled.

I did watch it and watched him get first hands on the pill at stoppage three times in the last two minutes when the game was there to be won and fed it out to teammates in better positions - Archer twice unfortunately as he ain’t a great kick. Laid a massive tackle on Lyons as well. He is exactly what is missing in our centre square set up and the first possession to Powell, LDU or Warlord would make a heck of a difference to our Centre Bounce structure. The word is he’s been asked for more defensive effort and I would say 13 tackles was exactly what was being asked of him. Perhaps his engine isn’t where they want it but this coaching group needs to start working with players’ strengths not their weaknesses. None of our midfielders is the perfect specimen of what you’d be looking for in an A Grade midfield right now.

I agree, he had some key moments, including a beautiful I50 to Lowson's advantage for a goal.

But watching at the ground, my concern is leg speed - I don't know enough about him as a junior to know whether he had zip, and he's lost it for whatever reason, but he motors around the ground and lacks any burst from stoppage. At one stage he was chasing Robertson into D50, was losing ground and had to lunge into his back, giving away a downfield 50.

I'm all for putting him in the ones given the CBA problem, but it's a concern

Very little to grasp if you are only thinking about this groups weaknesses.

why would you actively want to assume something?
I doubt the coaches are not talking to him week in and week out where he needs to be. Any other speculation is not helpful and misinformed. Glad to see he got stuck in with a bunch of tackles and contributed to a great win against a pretty formidable BNE team on paper. If it takes another few weeks of this effort to get in, then so be it. Maybe with Kerch’s rib/sternum and Sinpkin’s current ineptitude he should be a chance at the selection table.
